My Light Painting Evolving

Met up with a fellow from Talkphotography forums who was up on holiday with his wife on Thursday night. He asked for a wee 'how too'/night out. Went to the ancient Carloway Broch for a few hours and did a spot of good old Light-Painting.

Our trip ended at about 2.30am and even then was still quite bright, gave for some really nice daylight look shots. Certainly had a good time myself!

Thanks guys,

Again looking through old shots last night, I came across this one from the trip to the Broch with Mr Sprout. I wasn't too happy with the result that I got so gave it some Light-Room treatment, better crop, upped the exposure by 1, abit of clarity and contrast and tweaked the white balance to what I thought it should have been.

Heres the result which i am not happier with.

This is f'ing unreal! Top work.

If I could be as bold as to make a suggestion, the same scene with just the light rod right across the whole image would be spot on (for my desktop background...) :p

Haha thanks, that shot has crossed my mind :p I was still figuring out Orbs at this point and what did and didn't work, this orb/egg certainly didn't! Next time I'm there I'll do one just for you :p I will also make the exposure a lot better as well, possibly by that point I may have a 7 colour V-24... Watch this space!

To me this is a good example of how I think I have come on with night exposures anyway, I find this to be very under exposed as to what I would have liked at the time.

Thank you for these, i have been encouraged to go out get some steel wool! :D seems like fun and be something i wanted to try with my camera for awhile so :)

Haha excellent! :D

Look forward to seeing more!

Hopefully get out tonight somewhere, not sure where yet if the weather holds!

Thanks, really nice hearing what people think and also getting people out to try themselves. Also remeber to put your hood up ;)

Plasma ball with blue V-24 as backlighting.

I think you could make this one better.

1. Take a set of ten exposures.
2. Mask out the the plasma ball (the shifting plasma will cause problems).
3. Register and stack the exposures to reduce noise
4. Take one exposure, mask out everything but the plasma ball
5. recombine the stack and the plasma ball (scaling the plasma ball so that it matches)

This would give you a very clean background with very clean dark feel and lower noise on the red of the hands & face.

Thanks guys, glad you like. I don't think I would go to that extreme for a shot, I like to try and keep as much in camera as possible. Maybe I might give it a try at some point when I get fed up of this stuff :)

Finally got out again, bright and wet though... New/modified tool and spinning technique as well. The tool started to pack in (loose wire or something) after a few Orbs, gave a neat effect though, will get that shot up later on.

Still wide awake after being out, always come home with a buzz!

Great shot! Love it! If you could some how do it so the orb is floating in mid air between the two that would be awesome! (albeit near impossible to do! haha) :p

This is my personal favourite, love the rock structures. :)

Thanks guys! Still reassuring that people are enjoying/liking my stuff

Here's the shot with the malfunctioning Tool, still not looked at the tool yet, seemed as though it was loosing connection on the down swing. Really chuffed with it, was the wife that made me do this, I was pretty annoyed and wanted to call it a night once it played up, so this was great.
