My Light Painting Evolving

Yes that's is the v24 I use, it is a wicked piece of kit. However I strongly advise to not buy from there, that company was dissolved in 2008 but they will still take your money, I should know.... I luckily paied with papal and got my money back after 4 weeks!

Yes its a great place to be... when the weather is good that is Haha

Quick spin inside this old house on the Pentland Road from the trip the other night, got to be the scariest place I've ventured yet (down to the hat, bag of fire wood and rucksack on the other side I stumbled upon) quick spin and away I went before I got jumped hah!

It's been far too long since I posted something new here, so got myself out last night. No moon meant it was torch time, no videos either :( think I''l keep that for a really good night.

So a few things have changed since the last post, my 500D is gone along with ALL my lenses, tonight was the first night out with my 5Dc :D At the moment I only have a 50mm 1.8 (MK1) along with no remote... so 30 seconds and a high iso was on the cards.

This was what came out of it:

Pretty difficult to get focus right (no more live view) and the results on the LCD are hard to judge. However for an iso 1600 shot I was pretty impressed as noise reduction was at a minimum compared to the 500D would have been.

Now just waiting for my new remote to come, extra battery, CF cards and............... My 24-105L :D fun times ahead I think!

Well Saturday night marked 1 year since I took my first shot of Light Painting and it's nearly a year since I started this thread... can't believe it really! I have learned a lot on my journey and I have explored my Island more in a year than I have before. It's been so much fun and can't wait for the next year to see what I have come up with and where I go.

A big thanks to everyone here for the help and inspiration and also for your input in this thread. All your comments have made this thread keep going the way it has.

Here is the first shot again but with a slight 2013 revamp, as it was straight out of camera before it was rather messy and a bit off :)

The Exhibition by M+M Morrison, on Flickr

This is really what everything here has been all about...

This is a quick shot of the Grinneas Nan Eilean: The Islands Open Exhibition before it opened, taking place in An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway. Pictured is the two walls of photography, there's paintings and crafts on the inside. I have entered 5 framed prints and its the first time I have publicly displayed any of my work.

I actually went to this exhibition in December 2011 and set my self a target of getting 5 shots worthy to submit the next time it came around, at this point I was still only using my SLR as a point and shoot and don't know much. Really happy I have made it here and have learned soooo much and met loads of new people though photography. Now I have another exhibition locally in a cafe starting on Tuesday with around 12 prints... Better get ready!

Thanks to everyone who has been here and helped me along my way, by no means is this the end of my postings or anything, but just a 'This is where I wanted to be' kinda post :D

(My images are the 3 on the left wall in light frames one above each other, and two smaller light frames on the right wall 3 along and 2nd and 3rd up, you may recognise a few from this thread :))

As if I didn't have enough on over the last while, I also managed to get a display/exhibition of my own! In the local Library Cafe, 2 walls for the whole of April to myself. I didn't realise how much work went in to getting shots mounted and framed, especially if you want them looking perfect for selling! Really happy about how things have gone over the last while.

The Exhibition Take 2... by M+M Morrison, on Flickr

So now to have a break (not for long though), I have a few private orders to get though and another two or three 'event's to get thinking about that are coming along in the next month or two :D

And to finish off, I have been out quite a few time over the last month capturing more Airidhs around Lewis at night so here's one of my favorite.

Well my above exhibitions have been going great, way better than what I thought! I have managed to sell 3 so far (I was just happy to have some of my work on display) So that has made it all worthwhile and there is still a few weeks to go.

Another of the Pentland Airidhs in a more natural lighting. Taken under a full moon with some additional lighting from my Lenser P7

And one from Sunday nights trip, I didn't actually know this wind farm existed! I was walking along a path to a monument I was going to shoot and this popped up from know where!

I don't tend to shoot near street/flood lighting at all but to be honest I think it really works with this shot.

its ace to see you getting some exposure for you images Matt, they look great in the frames. Have you got any sales from the exhibitions?

Thanks, I just love looking at them... Not sure what I'm going to do when they have been taken down though haha

Yea so far I have sold 3, so really chuffed with that, hopefully sell one or two more :)

A full moon was shining 10 minutes before I shot this :( oh well gota make do with the awful weather up here!

Another boat themed shot from a another trip last week, in fact it is probably taken in the location of the distant lights in the shot above.

SY 532 Under the Stars by M+M Morrison, on Flickr
SY 532 taken last week between the showers. Brebhig Pier, Isle of Lewis.

This was a bit of a challenge to get any form of light-painting done in this shot, out of shot to camera right are at least a dozen huge flood lights lighting up the small pier and slipways. A good few pops of orange strobe inside the cabin, everything else lit by floodlight and full moon between the clouds.
