My new Cab

yeah because the XR3is had the performance differential with lower spec models that the 316i and the m3 evo did ?

At the end of the day certain models attract a premium, and certain models from certain eras attract a premium, and then some more.

To non ford nuts an XR3i is no more special than any other escort. Hence the surprise at its value.

I'm FAR from a Ford nut but I can fully understand why a tidy example of a cabriolet car would be worth a grand all day and all night long, let alone something that might have a bit of a following.

your on your own then.

'cos the rest of us can only think how much it will rattle, squeak, leak, shake and generally be a right pain to live with :p

Show me a cab that £500 can buy you a tidy example of in spring/early summer :).

Actually, sod it. I'll give you the full grand.

Thing is its got a huge bracing loop thing in the middle and the roof sits on the back like a pram, so its nearly a normal car with a panaromic roof rather than a cab :D

I dont think he has horrifically overpaid, its just what they are worth :(

In fairness for a 20 year old car it does seem a bit :/ though for what looks to be a very well kept car with bags of service history and what should be hassle free motoring and some piece of mind it doesn't seem a bad price.

Considering there are some total **** boxes on the market for more than £1k I wouldn't be unhappy with the purchase.

Everybody has their own tastes and likes. Some enjoy beetles or camper vans I don't see this as much different as it was probably reasonably iconic in its time.

What do you lot think happens to old cars? That they deprecate to the point where you can pick one up for £20? :D

They hit rock bottom and then either then bounce back and increase in money or values feaster, but around a grand is pretty much rock bottom for ANYTHING tidy. I'd be over the moon if I could get a tidy example of any of the 20 year old cars that I like for a K. Seriously, over the moon.

I see that for a grand and think the man has done well.

You guys need to take a day off. It's market value is at least £1k whether you think it's good value for money or not. I'm pretty sure the OP won't lose money when he comes to sell it either. How many of you can claim to have the same luck? So who's the fool?

I don't personally like the car, but who am I to tell a man how he spends his £1k?

Looks very very tidy, can't see there being any depreciation left in that. To the right sort of buyer (an 80s Ford enthusiast whose drive probably already has an RS1600i, and a tuned Escort RS Turbo or Fiesta track car or some Cosworth, and wants something he can fix on his drive cheaply and simply for summer motoring...head over to Passionford.com to get some idea of the Ford scene) you could probably make a handy profit on that.

Not my cup of tea at all though, I am a Ford fan and 'get' the appeal of Cosworths, Escort RS1600i, Series 1 RS Turbo Escort etc etc, even though I understand the limitations and that they are very much cars of their time....but the cabs just don't appeal in any way.
