My new car

Hang about, the guy's 18 and been driving for maybe a year, what you expecting? Most people here seem to have forgotten what they started out in.

He asked what people thought of the car. The car doesn't suddenly change depending on the funds available to the purchaser. Even more so when it's highly likely this car wasn't exactly cheap.

It's not his first car. Neither is it a cheap little runabout. It's a Corsa SRi which is 'supposed' to be a hot hatch and which he is paying £1500 to insure as a result.

Had I known that I'd have slated the OP a lot more!

It wouldn't beat a mk2 v6 mondeo on 0-60 time it might just beat a mk3 though

thats a totally different style of car who here had a V6 at 18? who here at 3-4K to waste on insurance at 18? clio sport is faster yes but the insurance is double, if i had got an older car likly hood is youll get more problems with it as itll have more miles like my first car did, sorry not going french again ever

He didn't say it was his second car until after I had posted that.

When people state that he could have got better, then it does.

Do you mean a clio sport or renault sport clio? Major differences, given that one is a clio with a few extra trim features and the other is a hot hatch with insurance that would have been vastly higher.

What are you talking about?

Renault Clio Sport comes in 172 or 182 form then you have the Clio Cup in either of those two powers.

The car i'm talking about is clearly the 2001 - 2005 clio, not the new one since that would be out of the price range.

Model range is as follows :

Rush / Campus / Authentique / Campus Sport / Extreme 4 / Expression / Expression + / Dynamique / Extreme / Extreme 2 / Extreme 3 / Privilege / Dynamique + / Initiale.

When talking about a clio 172 / 182 i've always called it and always heard it called a Clio Sport, never a sport clio, whilst renault did release a model with the 182 bodykit on it i don't think it was called a sport.

So just to satisfy yourself i'm talking about the 172 Clio Sport... Happy?

the LCR is getting chopped in this weekend

I want that bad

um no seriously its a bland corsa just like every other 18 yr old will go and finance,

sorry but you could have done a lot better for the money

shoulda bought a mondeo

If you like the car then enjoy it, the Corsa C does look the best out of all the Corsa's imo. Dont see why its been debadged tho, not like it can pretend to be anything better than the SRi and everyone knows its a Corsa.

Rg-tom had his V6 at 18 IIRC and it didn't cost him 3-4k on insurance:)

It doesn't - becuase he could. Are you suggesting there is simply no better alternative to a Corsa 1.8 for somebody of 18?

Please dont forget - he said 'What do you think?'.
I don't particularly like Corsa's either but for the money (Probably didn't pay much more than £4k) I think they are alright. A few of his mates probably have one aswell.

If he had come here before buying, what would you have suggested?

mondeo obv

Peugeot 106 GTi, Focus 2.0 Zetec (lower group for some reason), Fiesta Zetec-S etc. I think the Focus would be the number one choice though, 3 door Focus Zetec ESP with a decent 2 litre engine and Group 8 insurance.

And no, not a Mondeo, becuase its fairly obvious that your average Corsa SRI sympathiser probably isn't the sort who'd want a Mondeo.

well the focus, modeo and fiesta are slower and the 106 gti is 4 groups higher on insuarce for the same performance

Outright speed is a minute part of a car when viewed as an overall package. Nobody chooses 1 car over the other because of 0.5 seconds 0-60 time difference (nobody with half a brain anyway!)
