My new Dell 2405FPW - pictures & first impressions

I play games a lot on this monitor.
I have only noticed ghosting twice.
Once then I followed my cursor around on a black screen, and the other when I pull my shotty out as an engineer in BF2.

In faster games you will see a blur, it wont stay crystal sharp like a crt does with fast movement.
I play BF2 fine without much noticeable blur, as I never concentrate on looking for it, but its slightly noticeable on jets flying by, I notice no ghosting on them though.

I use 1:1 for all my games, so at lower res I have to put up with a smaller screen, but unless you are REALLY picky about the blur effect you can go wrong with the 2405FPW.

This is my first LCD and its been worth every penny.

So Baddass, the 2405 is good for gaming then?? I play a lot of CS:S and am now thinking of either the 200 or 2405 seing as how Viewsonic are stupidly only producing the new VP930 in silver.

i play css and bf2 a lot with odd dab every weekend with WoW. its very good for fps gaming.

heh im glad im not the only one who fills int he black spaces on this screen as well. i got flamed for it on another forum for doing that.
Why would you get flamed for it, YOU paid around £700 for YOUR own monitor, If thats the way you want to use it and thats how you like it, how dare anyone tell you your wrong. :D

Bought one about 6 weeks ago for £650 inc delivery.
Here's what I use it for!
MS Flight Sim on the Dell with the flight controls on my old 17" ViewSonic using dual monitor setup.

The beer can is there just to give you an idea of the comparative size. ;)

Damn this monitor looks sweeter than Kylies bumcheeks. :D

I'm in the amrket for a new one too and never really looked at the Dells however I don't want widescreen I want 1600*1200... would you say that the DELL Ultrasharp 2001FP rivals the DELL Ultrasharp 2005FPW for IQ and response rate (gaming, movies)? :)

EDIT - nm just done some searching for user opinions and it seems it has some ghosting probs.

Think i'll wait to see what the Samsung 214T is like. :)

if you do decide to go with the Dell's the 2001FP and 2005FPW are using the same LG.Philips S-IPS panel anyway, just with slightly different matrix sizes. Many people find the screen is fine for gaming really, but it's down to the individual

Hmm I tend to be a fussy, picky bugger though so i'll wait and see how much the Sammy costs before I make a decision.

It's my birthday on the 22nd of this month so I have a bit of time to consider it. :)

im looking at buy 1 of these monitors cuz they look so im presive would i need a better graphic card than my x800 pro to run games like bf2 on full res no aa settings or any thing lik that jst details on high

Rather than vertically strech 16:9 movies to 16:10 I tend to zoom in (pan&scan?) the image until it fits the screen, meaning everything is in proportion but with the picture chopped off very slightly on the sides. Since most DVD stuff is designed to be at least watchable even at 4:3 I find this is by far a better solution than stretching the picture out of proportion.

While I'm here, I use ffdshow to scale upto 1920x1080 (along with a few other filters - looks great) and then zoom in on the resulting picture with zoomplayer until it fits the screen, as mentioned above. Anyone know if zooming in on the picture in this way effectively results in it being rescaled, rendering the ffdshow processing pointless?

Either way, great screen, perfect for DVD's aslong as you dont sit 2foot from it :) Also, WOW at 1900x1200 has to be played to be beieved :D
