My Project For The Summer!

do you mean i wont need barbs for the radiator? but i will need g1/4 to 1/2 for the VGA block?

didn't realise the thermochill rads took bsp 3/8, and I've got 2 in my pc lol...

you shouldn't need barbs for the vga block, surely it comes with them or at the very least you should be able to add them to the order?

well i couldnt see the price as they had replaced it with a lovely out of stock sign! and i just wanted to get out, it was rather busy :(

i might just order all the stuff and see what fittings i need after that.

can you screw the fans directly onto the radiator?

Thermochill rads usually ship with enough screws to fit rads to one side (4,8 or 12.)

I went to B&Q today, they didn't have any metal at all. The only metal mesh they had was chicken wire that goes on rabbit hutches etc. Will have to try somewhere else :(

:( im trying to find some where else aswell, i went back today, in less of a mood and asked nicely when they thort they would have it in, and they didnt know :(
so if anyone has any ideas please let us know!! :D

They told me they would only perhaps have some in the major stores. I would try at a local hardware store - builders yard etc. Or try at RSWWW!

thanks il have a look! my local b&Q is one of the megastores so it should have it, when they get it back in :(
ive orderd all my cables and lighting, lots of blue and UV!

Halfords often have aluminium mesh (in car body repair / body filler / paint section)

However, it is a diamond grill pattern, not the usual perforated sheet, so it is more 3D, which can be a bit trickier for mounting. Also it oxidizes quite quickly - worth putting a clear lacquer on it if u use it.

You could also try to google "modders mesh"

Are you going to need someone to hold your hand all the way through this?

There are many ways. How are you going to make your cirlce windows in the case side and front? The same method would probably accomodate a grill if you just sub the plexi for grill material.

Have a look at what other people have done and see what you want. There are a variety of methods that vary in ease and aesthetics.

and i cant get hold of my jigsaw till monday and my screen doent come till wednesday so ive got bugger all to do :(

May I suggest you spend time reasearching and planning. You should have a clear plan of what you want to achieve and how you are going to do it from start to finish. Getting the jigsaw out too early (like you did) could result in a major balls-up. Even when you have a detailed plan and all the parts to hand, things will still go wrong along the way. Without the parts and a plan the likelyhood of it going well is very slim. Just my 2c :D

well i do have a final plan, just two bits im unsure about.

1) how to make the bottom of the case mesh.
2)Moving the power supply

This is the bottom of the case, i think i might just cut a large rectangle out (bigger than the 1 marked) but leave a 5mm lip to attach the mesh on the inside and of couse the holes for the case feet or not bother with the feet and install casters :) which im so tempted to do

Everything else im tickidy boo about although im waiting for some parts before i cut holes in the front etc.

well im just gonna cut the windows for now! the windows on the side are just gonna be glued on so there are no horrible screws, i didnt want the mesh on the floor just to look stuck on, but at the same time i dont want to make an entire new floor!

Ive devised away of attaching the front panel so thats sorted. Ive also thort of a way of mounting the radiator which will be just a basically be a rectangular bit of 2mm steel with the area cut out the middle like a shroud which will screw onto the radiator and the attach to the original psu guides but be extended off one side so as to block the wholes in the 5.25 bay bottom so the only way for the air to rise will be over the radiator.

ah ha! you hit the nail on the head there, while drinking at my local watering hole i had an vision lol inspired by "RB Customs" air brushing, i was thinking of all that space at the top where i cant really put a window, i thought a bubble design lol or some sort of watery effect of some sort in blue on white.

P.S sorry for the drunken reply :P to many drambuie and limes :P however im willing to pay anyone out there who could paint it with a cool design :D pleaaaaaaaaaase! lol

i really need to update my computer design pic as it has changed now, im only having 1 dvd drive, the lcd and the windows at the bottom, and im not bothering with the restart switch, i have bought a power switch that lights up BLUE tho andit works!!!! and the windows and the usb will still be there obviously. so slight changes.

For the bottom mesh, the size you have marked should be ok. Don't want to go too big or else you will lose structural integrity for the feet/castor mounting. As it stands you might have to reinforce it with some metal strips.

I would also consider making a false bottom too. Similar to the rad mounting plate, but cut to be same size as bottom and a similar size and position hole for the mesh. The mesh gets sandwiched between real bottom and false bottom. What does look nice if is you can get chrome, stainless steel or polished aluminium - that way you can get a reflection and see the underside of the gfx cards when you look down throught the window.

For the PSU, you will probably need to re-inforce it when you move it. (Aluminium angle from B&Q). I would consider turning it 90 degrees and have a round mesh hole in the side that it can draw cold air through. This can be on the right side of the case or the windowed left side. You could make a feature of it if you feel up to it (easier than airbrushing) Maybe an LED fan shining behind the circle mesh panel. You don't really want the PSU to breathe the air that comes off the rad.

i sat most of today thinking about this, and my plan is to mount the psu on its side, with the fan pointing towards the left (side with the windows) and then put some sort of ducting on the panel leading to the psu fan.

ive also come to the conclusion i might not water cool my graphics card straight away. :( im hoping to hav the case finshed (but not painted) by the end of this month, i still need to buy my new rig to put into it and im a bit weary of buying a graphics card at the mo, i dont want to spen £200 on a 8800 gts when the following week i could have afforded a gtx

so i my choices are to wait a little bit, and either just buy a gts and air cool it and upgrade to a new card and water block at a later date

or go with the gts and water cool it

GTX will never be £200 ;) You will always loose money on what you buy, its a fact of upgrading. I bought my 8800 for £194 and its now around £180. Something you have to live with unfortunately, you can keep waiting and waiting and then the next thing will be out etc. Buy the best you can now :)
