My Silverstone Fortress Build

Question

I'm thinking of adding another fan to my system. Between the HDD cage and the 5½ Bays so that it site in front of the 180mm fan and directs more air at my graphics cards.

has anyone else done similar and would it be worth it?

I havent done this, but it might be worth it.
I'd suggest you try it and see.

its hardly a time consuming or irreversible mod ;)

Make sure you take temps before, during and after the installation.
Im sure its not a problem to have the PC on, monitoring the temps, the rig up a fan and watch the temps. :)

let us know how you get on!

well i measured the space last night and it's just over 130mm so i'm not sure whether to squeeze a 140mm fan in there (which i think would fit) or stick with a 120mm fan. By squeezing the 140mm in it wont require any cable ties to hold it in place etc. not sure though

what do people reckon

If you are certain that the 140 will fit and you have one to try, then I would suggest you try that. Otherwise if you have a 120 lying around, give it a go, no point wasting money on a new fan if it makes little to no difference.

ah good point.

i've a spare 120mm in the attic which i'll hunt out to try. If it's an improvment then i'll get another Xigmatek just to keep the fans the same

Let us know how you get on, although I doubt it will make a big difference, but I stand to be corrected :)

i'm unsure also but feel the amount of heat coming from my crossfire setup is having a negative affect on the large 180mm fan at the front and just circulating up into rest of the case.

So to direct more air at the cards and not allow it into the case i thought another fan might help?

Not sure, but yes you will be pushing more cool air directly towards the cards, so in theory anyway you should see some sort of improvement.

When I tested the Lian-Li BS-08 it made no difference at all to my GFX temps, no matter whether the fans were intake, or exhaust. Although in fairness there is very little airflow from them. I may at some point try replacing the fans with something a little meatier and test again.

i found out my old Zalman 120mm fan and (quite crudely) attached it.

best thing is with the side window on you can't see it :D

here's some pictures (taken on mobile sorry)

Edit: i have since levelled off the fan with a stopper on the top right corner.

Hehe, I own this case as well... Waiting to purchase the scythe kama bay though as its sold out! Would you recommend it?

I've just got a Silver Fortress no window+bay adapter 5.25>4x3.25 has a blue lad fan at front set,s the front of the case off against the black+H50, the system is super quiet well pleased with it. The fortress has no case speaker thats why you don't hear a beep.

I Hope You don't mind me asking all these questions on your thread magic, but my front fan seems to be spinning @ 700 ish rpm and top fan @ 360 ish rpm, it was 400+ last night, its getting slower?! :S any ideas?

Some MOBO,s have trouble starting the 180mm fan's in Silver tech Q&A about the FTO1, so when l built my rig l ran them from the PSU instead and there running full speed they certianly pull a lot of air into the case. Hope this help's m8.
