To be honest with this the post about supplements and their uses, dosages etc is going to be huge and extremely generalized. There is a wealth of information out there, a lot of it with differing opinons. A lot of this research is funded by companies just simply trying to promote their "superior" product so you can part with your hard earned cash becuase you believe it's going to work better becuase some medical journal says so.

All that can really be done is that the very basic outline of what they do is pointed out, and then people simply try them theirselves. Dosages will vary greatly from person to person depending on gender, weight, training goals, training stage etc etc. I think it could actually be a bad idea for people to post information about dosages as some people will not adjust this to their own lifestyle and could do damage by taking in far too large amounts of particular substances.

True words S7yl3s. When it comes to supplements, everyone is different and will prob need different amounts, the safest way is to eat more healthy solid foods, and only have the odd protein shake after training or in the morning. It is a supplement, not a replacement for good old food.

I'm in Eastr Grinstead, and go to Dunnings Mill Health Club http://www.dunningsmill.co.uk/

It really is the dogs nadgers, some lovely ladies there too... not that I notice them while working out of course. :D

cool :D
we have some nice women in ours (cannons in crawley), loads of the air hostess's come in as well as some stunners who just happen to be local.
1 blonde girl comes in wearing next to nothing and does SLDLs (in hotpants!) face to the mirror (meaning rest of the gym behind her), needless to say it causes much distraction!

You know many local OCUK'ers then?

Ok guys, protein shake arrived today... but can someone please tell me good times to drink it aside form post-workout?

I did a big workout yesterday evening and just wondering if its worth drinking a glass now or whether that wont have much effect on my muscle rebuilding a day afterwards?

Straight after work out, morning or night.

If you've got time to make a meal instead, then thats better than a shake.

I generally take one at night before bed and one in the morning when i dont have time to make a proper breakfast.

Your muscles will be recovering for 48-72 hours after a workout, this is when they're growing and strengthening ;)

Shakes are good when you can't get some quality protein from food. The only time a protein shake is more beneficial than real food is PWO though.

Well... tried a shake today and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I took a tentative sip and expected my face to auto-twist in disgust but the powder not only mixed in nicely but tasted... well... tasteless really!

Added a bit of chocolate nesquik powder and it was lovely, yum! Going to start buying skimmed milk now for the shakes. :)

Not bad stuff at all is it. I've had my fair share of experiences where I haven't shaken the "shaker" just out of sheer forgetfulness and taken a mouthful of minging half mixed lumpy protein. Lesson here is, always remember to stir OR shake sufficiently :p

Guys... just out of interest is it ok for me to take the protein shake to the gym and drink it say 2hrs after I make it? That may sound an incredibly stupid question (I admit) but i'm just thinkng of when you juice vegetables and how it's best to eat them during a certain time period to retain all the goodness. Of course the powder doesn't have any fresh components or extracts I know... but it doesn't deteriorate in any way the longer it's in the milk does it?

Oh and how much do you reccommend putting in... 4 or 5 heaped regular-sizedspoons per 500ml or something?
