N95 Release

My uncle picked one of these up the other day, came around and i had a look at it. Tbh i was very impressed with the size of it although the slider seemed a bit loose like the N80 was. But it wasnt as big or as bulky as i would have thought it would have been...seemed to fit my hand pretty well....also was quite impressed with the speed of the phone, it seemed a lot more faster than the N80 i had...have to admit its making me think that i should buy one. Although i didnt play around with it too much as its my uncles and didnt want to mess up any of his settings lol.

But all in all for the first time ive been impressed by an N series nokia phone. Dont know if its worth the £600 odd pounds for the sim free version...might wait awhile for it to go down in price then pick one up. i would do an upgrade on my tmobile account but i really dont want a branded phone as my past experiences have shown them to be terrible phones...

This is the first Nokia phone that has impressed me for a long, long time. And it's certainly more than restored my faith after buying what in comparison is the awfully slow and buggy N80.

I've still not had a crash, reboot, low memory error and my phone still zips along.

Yesterday I used the GPS for about 2 hours, and sent around 400 text messages. I got 15 hours or so out of the battery from a full charge to one bar, which still isn't great, but considering the stuff I used, and how poor the N80 was in this respect, it's certainly more than usable and a definite improvement.

I really like this phone. I really, really like it.

I would wait if I were you apparently the prices are already coming down - I heard you can get these for £450 sim free (100% sure tho). Just to confirm that the branding is very limited with Tmobile - the only branding at all is the web and walk icon - and that is all!

Even the normally obtrusive Orange branding isn't so bad. A logo on the back of the phone, and the usual start up and shut down screens, but that's about it as far as I've noticed.

im finding it hard to justify spending this much on a phone. I have a k750i atm. Im worried the n95 is just gonna be too big and bulky. I could do with a photo of the two side by side. I suppose i should get myself into town to take a look at one in real life.

I was suprised, the difference in size is quite small.

Excuse the very battered and dead k750i and greasy N95.:p

Phoned orange up last night to upgrade (on the canary 30 + £4 for 4 mb data usage) and got quoted £200 for the n95, so said ok i would like to get my pac, got told that department is closed and had to call today. Phoned today and went straight through to cancel my contract, guy asked why i was leaving, told him i refuse to pay £200 for the phone and he told me that if i hang on til 19th (last day of my 12th month) my points (no idea what they are) will have gone up enough for me to get the phone for free, so i got him to make a note on the system so that when i call on the 19th i don't get told something different. So hopefully as of the 19th i'll be getting the phone for free :)

How do you find it compared to the k750i - is it as quick and user friendly?

Its very quick but at times 1 split second slower (because its a smartphone) and without doubt as user friendly as the k750i, however, that is from memory as you can see my k750i is rather dead! Maybe someone else has both?

If you are loading up GPS then it takes a little longer (but only a little) then again I remember that map thingy on the k750i taking about the same time for more complicated programmes.

edit - here you go this might be handy for you:

the '3d' menu is kind of a gimmick - it looks good but you never use it! That is the only slow bit of the phone - populating it.

Thats a good question that.
The K750 is similar in speed to a K800, and thats what i'd myself would be moving from.
If the GUI on the N95 is as fast as a K800/750, then im practically sold.
I have a few ideas to stretch out the battery life if its that bad anyway.

That was going to be my next question... How have you found the battery life? No sugar coating please ;)

[edit]

Watching the video Chrisp posted it doesn't look as speedy to me...

So it's basically K810i and live with the buttons, LG Prada and live with the touchscreen with texting or N95 and live with the slowness and bad battery...

lol, that I couldnt really tell you as it has been near a charger a lot of the time - I'd say at average usage - a few texts/calls/pics/emails it will last around 2 days. But thats a bit of an estimate. If you use it heavily ie wifi and gps, calls etc etc all day then it will last a day probably. Its better than the N80 (which is a relief) but still not that amazing.

Edit - well to me its pretty speedy :dunno:. The only slow parts are opening the 3d menu (which as I said before you never use) and the more complicated programmes like GPS that he loads up (which is understandable). Maybe others can give their opinion as its better to hear from several people.:)

I dont really see how you can compare the Prada or k810i as they are completely different types of phones. Say you used k810i functions on the N95 I am sure it would last a long time, the k810 has a nice camera tho. And the Prada to me just looks girly/horrible touchscreen/horrible camera.

edit - a great impartial review here: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=3283&source=HOMETOP

mini review + question

Just got mine today (upgraded from my trusty old k750i). Been fiddling about with the settings for a few hours to try to setup the WLAN connection without much luck (although I can connect to next door's WLAN ok..!)

Went back to the k750i to check something in the settings and wow it looked/felt poor next to the N95! Shows you how quickly you can get used to somethig new!

After only having the phone a few hours I am very impressed.
The build quality is excellant (pointing this out as i've heard others say otherwise on here - weights about the same as well, perhaps slightly lighter).

The phone is very fast / responsive (same as k750i basically). Too early to comment on barrery life.

The screen is huge! and very bright.

The camera is amazing - also the refresh rate of the screen is really good whe in camera mode - not jerky at all like it was on the k750i. Havn't tried the GPS so far.

Fav feature so far has to be the barcode scanner (seriously, wtf?!?)

Does anyone know a simple way to transfer my contacts from the k750i to the N95? Can't do it via SIM/BT I don't think (have been trying). I'll have to start googling or (god forbid) RTFM.

T

Why dont you try and sync the k750i with the address book in your computer then just sync the address book with the N95.

Or did you try this:

On the K750i
Menu > Contacts > More > Advanced > Send All Contacts > Via Bluetooth
And remember to turn on bluetooth on the N95;)

Yup. That's what it's looking like for me. But I'll go for the K810i, I like the buttons and I want the better flash.

The N95 is easily the quickest S60 phone there has been. It's instant, sending messages, navigating between menus, there's no delay to speak of at all.

Battery life for an average to low user would be about 2.5 days I'd say, falling to a day if, like me, you send hundreds of texts, fiddle with the gps, camera etc etc etc

So slowness is definitely not an issue.
