N95 Release

I wish the phone would play music/movies off the home network - imagine if it did, streaming from your PC direct to your TV/ability to play music wherever you are. Orb just isnt good enough for TV but it might be for mp3s..

Send all contacts didn't work (says unsupported format) but the sync via PC worked fine ta. Now to get it to access my WLAN...

Why dont you try and sync the k750i with the address book in your computer then just sync the address book with the N95.

Or did you try this:

On the K750i
Menu > Contacts > More > Advanced > Send All Contacts > Via Bluetooth
And remember to turn on bluetooth on the N95;)

don't know if this has been mentioned. But have just found the coolest app on this phone. The barcode scanner. Completely pointless for most things but it is intended to pick up information that may be held in the barcode such as phone numbers, email addresses etc. Have just spent the last ten minutes scanning stuff just to see if it has information on it.

Can see me playing with this for a while just to see what info is hidden in the bar code.

if your wondering where it is then go to applications > office tools > bar code scanner.

Can you get it to actually read anything?

I was suprised, the difference in size is quite small.

Excuse the very battered and dead k750i and greasy N95.:p

well it seems to work with semacode based barcodes. It looks like our bar codes don't store any additional info but having scanned some bar codes of the net it works perfectly. looks like a feature that will not be used but always good for a laugh maybe they could do something like those barcode battling games from yeras ago. oh and it located in Office > barcode scanner

Yea that would be sweet, act like a mini media centre :D

can't you do that with the home media server that is supplied on the nokia cd?

You create an account and then connect to it via a web front end.

I am currently just setting it up so once I have it working I will report back.

Well the software that is used comes from www.simplecenter.com

This comes with two levels of access basic which allows transfer of files between home network and phone and premium which allows for files to be transfered over the net via a web log in. handy for if you want access to stuff if you are on holiday in the office etc.

the basic install comes with a 30 day premium trial.

well once you have configured the home network wizard on the phone and added the device to the simplecenter software it allows you to transfer files between the two very easily.

Once the transfer has taken place you may have to refresh the music library for the files to be recognised/listed.

haven't figured a way of browsing through the library on the pc from the phone but maybe there is some additional software that can do that. I'm guessing thats where the remote access comes in so that you can do it from the web front end.

Now the web side of things is a bit clunky but fairly well organised. Again the only problem is that it forces you to download the item before you can start using it. So if there is a streaming app for the symbian platform that may be more suitable.

I will include a more in depth review once I have played with the phone a little more.

edit:

this also allows for podcasts to be uploaded/subscribed and added to the phone.

Nah I tried it, you cant do it, it will only allow you to control the media on your PC or other upnp (think thats what its called!) devices, sadly not your phone. I think its ridiculous that Nokia disabled this as technically the phone is ready to be able to do this! The only think you can do is same the files from your network via the media centre to your phone then you can play them. Kind of defeats the object tho!

Can you charge the N95 through the mini USB port? And does it just appear as a generic mass storage device when plugged into computer or is nasty software required?

No, and generic mass storage (if you select that mode on the phone).

small question, does it have multiple alarms or just 1? if so how many and how customisable r they?

It has multiple alarms. Not sure what the maximum number is. You can customise them in terms of repeat / days / times / work days etc etc

this phone iscrap, calls go straight to voicemail when on full signal and the battery life is pathetic, mine is going back.

lol, it could be your network, it could be a faulty phone, hardly makes the phone crap. :p

Happened to me on my old orange contract, I was hoping they would have noticed the fault and corrected it by now.
