N95 Release

I charge my N95, usually, twice a day. It's constantly connected via 3G browsing the net/downloading videos while I'm at work. It lasts just under 4 hours from a full charge when doing this.

Anyone looking to update their firmware but can't due to operator lock. This works a charm... (Taken from another website).

pre requisites
First, make sure you have downloaded and installed the Nokia PC Suite and that it recognises your phone when connected via USB

Also, choose a product code from the list supplied by selene found in the sticky thread here

Updating the product code
Download the Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) from here and install

When NSS is installed, close the Nokia PC Suite by locating its icon in the system tray (the area in the bottom right hand corner where the time is displayed), right click on it and choose exit.

Open NSS and plug your N95 into a USB port using the data cable that was supplied with the phone.

In the very top right hand corner of the NSS program there is a little icon, click it and the NSS will scan and find your phone.

Once found you will see a tab in the main window called ''Phone Info''.

Click on this and in the right hand pane of the main window the top box has an option called product code, and beside it a check box that says ''enable''

In this box type the product code you want to change to, and check the enable box. now click the ''write'' button at the bottom.

It only takes a second or two and the code has been changed.

Disconnect the phone and close the NSS.

Update the phone to debrand
so far only the product code for the phone has been changed so now you need to perform an update in order to have the firmware change to the generic version

Run the Nokia Update Service which is found in the Nokia PC suite, or download from here

...and that is it. You have now fully debranded your Nokia N95 and will have all the functionality that Nokia intended!

...Unless I am very much mistaken!

I used Euro Plum1, from my research it's the best one to use for the UK.

As usual 'SE techno geeks' getting things wrong and getting excited about putting a nokia device down or sparking a possible conspiracy theory. well the joke seems to be on them this time.... until it breaks that is...

Tbh the so called SE geeks that your talking about do have a very good point, the battery life on the n95 is terrible...simple as that. They did the same thing with the N80 but for me it just wasnt the battery but also the phone in general...the n80 was a nice phone with all the features you could possibly want but such a terrible implementation of them...i got rid of mine within the first day of having it.

As for the n95??, its a brilliant phone let down by the terrible battery life, i have one and am really impressed by the features and how much better/quicker it is compared to the n80.

Now compared to my SE P990i, battery wise the P990i knocks it out for 6 easily...the only thing the P990i lacks is the GPs function but i hardly use it as its not that great tbh. But otherwise the phone is great, just not too impressed with the battery life...which a lot of people are slating the N95 for and i cant see them being wrong for slating it. Surely a phone this powerful should last longer ie charged up my phone the other night, used it for a few emails/texts and calls and by 10pm the same day it was already beeping at me....asking me to charge the battery. My P990i on the other hand which gets the same usage lasts for at least another day or 2 till i have to charge it.

Mind you im now selling my P990i as i dont really use it to the full tbh, got a new smaller laptop which i carry around and does everything the P990i did for me. Plus i found the P990i a bit too bulky for my liking compared to the n95 which is small and quite compact considering the power it has.

Anyways i did my firmware update last night and i cant really see any sort of major difference to it tbh. But then maybe its changes that are underneath the skin rather than the ones u can see. Still a great phone and highly recommended by me and ive been an SE boy for quite some time now. Only thiong wrong with my n95 is the hissing noise from the earpiece and the whining noise as well but im hoping by next week ill get those fixed hopefully.

Gotta agree with the battery life.
It's shocking beyond belief.

For example I left mine on last night with 50% battery left. No GPS/BT etc on.
Woke up this morning wondering why my alarm wasn't going off. The bloody thing had run out of charge!

Coming from a HTC Wizard which had everything this does, bar the GPS, and lasted 3 days between charges its very poor.

Can someone with an N95 please help me?

I've just bought my N95 here in China, for 6800RMB (£440), (which came with 1GB MicroSD card), and I know it has both Chinese and English, but is defaulted to Chinese. I'm not familiar with this platform, as I have a Nokia 8800. I can't find where to change the language to English.

I think all the icons are in the same places and the menus are the same, so could someone possibly describe a step-by-step method to help me find the language setting?

Can somebody please help me ?
I am thinking of getting this handset , i have seen some mixed bag reviews of the phone and would be wondering if i am making a mistake , i mean i charge mt phone once a day anyways out of force of habit and i allready use the n73 and a sony erricsson w800i , now i got to be honest i have never had a days worth of trouble out of the sony , but had some initial probelms with the n73 , which were later solved in the v3 update avail through the nokia updater (of which i thought was pretty cool ) , that was much nicer to use than the sony updater , i keep my handsets up to date just like i would with a pc.
Would some body be kind enough to gimme some pro's and con's of which hopefully will point me in the right direction.

All the best peep's

Alex Slane :)

To be honest, it's a really good phone.

But like most phone's it has it's good side's and bad side's.

For an example of a bad side, the headset speaker has just blown on my phone! So whenever I call someone it's very distorted sound. Also the slide can sometime's be abit unstable (on mine, don't know about anyone else's). Battery only last's a day at the max, if you use it a lot like me.

Good points,

Amazing camera, excellent video capturing, big screen. There are lot's more good points, but just can't think of them!

Anyways, has anyone else's headset speaker blown?

-Matt

What do u mean the headset speaker has blown, the hands free headphones?? or the actual handset speaker on the sides of the phone??.

1 - Press menu botton
2 - Select 'Tools' Folder (bottom left option)
3 - Select 'Settings' (Spanner icon - 2nd row, middle column)
4 - Select General (Top icon - spanner & phone)
5 - Select Personalisation (Top icon - 2 faces)
6 - Press up twice OR down 4 times ('Language' option is 5th in a list of 6)
7 - Press Select again and simply change the language from 'Automatic' to English.
The phone should restart and hey presto!

You may then need to go into the same menus to change the writing language as well.

Pros-
Great Camera
Fantastic Video recording quality
Very good stereo speakers
Relatively small (used to own a P910i)
Wifi
Decent web browser
3G video calling
? GPS (I don't use it)

Cons-
Rubbish build quality (mine anyway. it feels flimsy and rattly - although the slider on my brothers n95 is even more rattly than mine!)
Rubbish Call quality (Hissing and echos)
Rubbish battery life (charging it at least once every day)
I also keep accidentally exiting applications because my thumbs keep knocking the menu buttons on either side of the d-pad.
One other thing - there doesn't seem to be an option so you can hide away any private photos/videos from prying eyes ;) - anyone know if there is a downloadable app that lets me do this?

I'd imagine so.
I know years ago my mate had a 6630 and had an app that locked his media & message folders, so that he needed enter a key to get access to them.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if (like you) it's wrong. If you are the kind of chap that gets rid of a handset after only one day of 'use' then i'm not sure you are the right person to be giving advice (if you can call it that) of any kind. Dont get me wrong i'm not being nasty, i just think you are flawed in many of your statements and it's just not helpfull to plant seeds of doubt in peoples' minds without due cause. let people make their own minds up i say.

i have absolutely no issues with the battery life on my n95... i charge it once ever 3 days or so... but then i hardly ever use it :p

I dont really know why people complain about the battery life. There isnt a phone on the market that does as much as the n95 in such a small compact device. Simple as that. If you want that, plus the ability to recharge once every week, then quite simply you are looking for a phone that doesnt exist.

Personally I think its all relative. It depends what you are used to i.e what phones you had previously. My last 2 phones were p900 & p910i. Both of which had fantastic battery life (16 hours talk time, 480 hours standby & 13hrs/400hrs respectively). The N95 has 2-4hrs talk time and 215 hrs standby. But TBH battery life of any phone after the p900s is probably going to be disappointing.

When the p900s were released 4 years ago there wern't any other phones that could match the number of functions they had either yet they still had incredible battery life. However, If I hadn't owned either of these two phones the N95 battery wouldn't be an issue with me.

The actual speaker you listen to whilst calling someone, it's completely dead.

my last phone was a k750i... i think the battery in that is actually a nuclear power station ! :D
Lol.
Ive gotta say:
I used to have a T610, awesome battery life (and the most reliable phone ive had), then got a Nokia 7610, good phone, bad battery life. Then all the phones ive had since (2! lol), have been SE's, a W800i & my current K800i, and all have had/have amazing battery life.

Thats what puts me off the N95, while it may do everything under the sun, it doesnt really count for much if the battery isnt up to scratch.
Which is a shame really, as apart from that, its my perfect phone. :(.
