NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

Hi there

Well I survived another day, literally fighting for my life every time I drive the Mustang now, maybe I should just do as I did with M3, strip the air bags, fit a cage. :D

Joke! ;)

Anyway I fitted my front wheels this morning, planned to do over weekend but with a forecast of freezing and constant rain, I decided to still be frozen but at least dry and do them this morning.

Some pictures, not the best, crap weather, dirty car etc:

So very happy with the offset, nearly flush which is what I wanted as I did not want to be flush and most definitely no poke, I am a hater of poke.

Unfortunately I made a bit of a boo boo, first of all I ordered black wheel lugs instead of chrome but even worse the front MPSS are runflats. :(
Still I think I quite like the black lug nuts, what do others think?

When I fitted them I was thinking why is there no XL rating, then noticed they had re-inforced on them instead which I assume is runflats. In the first five minutes of driving I could certainly feel this as well, more road feel, maybe a good thing I guess but at the same time the ride is a touch harsher on the front, but seems better damped which I put down to the fact 5-6kg has being shed from each corner.

Good news is the pair of tyres were £25 of a buddy, they have 6mm so will do for now, grip seems fine but I've not tried pushing as it was -2c and wet/icy this morning but the cars turn in seemed fine.

I am hoping to upgrade to PS4 S anyway and size up marginally to a 285/35/20 on the front (None run flat) as current tyre is 275/35/20 so cannot see it being any issue looks or ride wise going slightly wider on front. For reference Shelby GT 350 runs 295 and 305 or 305 and 315 front and rear, so I will be doing 285 and 295 so it should not upset the cars traction control or anything, but I shall double check with the US guys.

Looks wise, well for me my stock wheels re-painted looked gorgeous and these also look stunning, but I cannot pick a winner, people who have seen them so far also are the same shocked initially at first how much more silver they are but then really like the design and extra size. So in short for me the looks are the same, the bonus is less weight and wheel spacers gone goodbye. :)

The rears are not fitted yet:

This is because I need to remove the longer studs and re-fit stock ones, much longer job and its too cold for that, so XJK Jaguar Specialist are sorting for me on Monday. Fingers crossed the 295/35/20 rears are not run flat haha as I got them for £50 of a mate with a Porsche, £50 bargain as he changes out at 4mm and they will last me until PS4 S is hopefully made available, if not I will just sling some new MPSS on the back or check what other tyres are available come spring.

I think in hindsight maybe a tinted laquer on these wheels would have softened the sharp silver colour a little, but at the same time the car is filthy and the wheels are spotless so really stand out and some road use will darken them up and when car is washed and all clean and shiny will be fine. The thing I love is when walking upto the car the wheels really look insanely expensive and premium. Will get some proper pictures once rears are on and hopefully the sun comes out to play. :)

P.S. I prefer factory centre caps, will try fitting if do not fit will see if its possible to get some and I think the black lugs work quite well so maybe that mistake paid off. :)

Personally not the colour I'd choose but your new wheels look significantly nicer than your old set. The black nuts work nicely as well.

Cheers guys, yeah I think the black nuts is a mistake I am glad I made. :)

Also the garage who fitted the tyres have told me reinforced on the sidewalls does not mean run flat, they say they'd have RFL if that was the case and they would have being an absolute nightmare to fit.

They said the NVH I witnessed in first five minutes of driving would be down to them being off the car a few months and flat spotting or going a bit hard and it was not me getting used to it but it simply going away after being driven a mile or two. :)

They said not to worry and get some PS4 S in March for the front when they come out and keep MPSS on the rear if PS4 S does not come out as the miss-match front to rear won't be an issue, not sure if I agree with that.

To bright for my linking :P

But black nuts look good i think :D

Agreed, I do think a very slight tint in the laquer would have being a good idea, but on the flip side car is filthy, wheels are clean. Sun out, clean car will look better and vice versa dirty car and dirty wheels look fine.

Hi there

Well walking towards car at work and the wheels look super ace with artificial light hitting them, should have taken a picture......

Ice had melted and it was a warm 3-4c and raining on way home, so thought I'd see if I could feel any difference, bear in mind only changed fronts but to summarise:
- Front-end turn in is super responsive and grippy, bit shocked how it just gripped in such conditions on rapid direction changes on part worn tyres, does not feel like 1700kg, more like 1500kg. Maybe due to lower profile and wider foot print from wider wheel and tyre (9" vs 10" and 255 vs 275)
- There is more road feel in the wheel, some may welcome this and others not, but I like it as its given steering more feel. Cruising seems largely un-affected, touch extra road noise.
- Seems to have neutralised understeer, guessing as essentially I am running a square setup temporarily.
- Dampening seems better, guess the suspension is having to work less being 6kg per side lighter, definitely going to get some 2-piece front disc as well to save another 3-4kg per side for ride quality improvements alone.

Really impressive especially from an up-size, can only imagine how good it would feel on an even lighter 19" or dare I say it 18" wheel, though you'd need more tyre then to fill the arch which would probably reduce the response but certainly improve comfort even more drastically and wet grip.

Can't wait to get the rears plonked on and the two-piece disc setup, should get the weight of the car down to around 1650kg with a full tank of fuel. Not so porky after all! :)
Now for some warmer dry weather so I can truly go for a real hoon! :D

Here is how the car accelerates on my previous setup, PMAS CAI and Lund custom tune so 470HP:

Since I did this setup and showed the results quite a few EU and UK guys are now running my Lund tune on their cars and loving it.

Told them next step is GT 350 as that is freaking crazy fast at top-end. :D

This is why I love this car, its an event every time. :)

I have to say, I think I prefer the old wheels. They have a more interesting design.
Saying that, both are nice.

Hi there

Got the backs on, they really are perfect fitment, nearly flush which is what I wanted and means it gives me some spare ET to fit a wider tyre if I wish without them being flush or poking. :)

The design I am very happy with, the colour now all four are on has grown on me, yes I'd still prefer them a touch darker but they will be darker by tomorrow anyway from a drive. So I may leave as is otherwise I can look at coating them with a tinted lacquer or in a few months or if I transfer them to the next one get them fully polished/machine for an even deep silver/shine, another level up on bling. But I like them, need to line lock the tyres on way home to turn them on for a few seconds, not much grip out back as I found out booting it of some corners with TC off, epic slides. :D
