NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

Damn, and I was hoping they'd start to drop below £30k in 6 months :(

Nope! :(

There is a rumoured big increase coming as well as a few of our friends across the pond are complaining as to why a Mustang in the UK cost less than it does in the USA. Similar spec in USA is around $47,500 as UK cars are Premium package, Performance Package as standard even with AUTO and 3.55 gears, something USA was not allowed to spec. Was not all bad for us Brits, even though we did not get DRL's and sequentials.

Ford have being selling them a bit cheap over here since launch, and now the pound is so weak well they must be not making a penny, especially as the dealership is awarded £500 profit for everyone they move.

So people are expecting maybe a big increase of another £1000-£1500 or them to revise the option prices as those have not changed since launch when the pound got you 1.55 dollars, as of today it gets you 1.25 dollars, a big improvement from the 1.20 last week. Helped by the fact Trump loves the UK! :D

Absolutely fantastic, zero depreciation due to limited supply and Ford constantly increasing pricing. I was expecting to lose 5k-10k after 1-2yr ownership with it being a brand new car, so this is pretty epic. :)

But this has been offset by the fact that your replacement Mustang will cost more due to Ford upping the prices.

I pay more for new, I get more for old.
I pay less for new, I get less for old.

But not getting away from the facts, there are not many new big powerful GT/Sport coupes you can buy that are mass produced and not lose a penny in first 12 months.

Of course if I sell and just don't get another or something else, I win. :)

Based on the supposed easter egg contained in some of the press photos, there's rumours that horsepower for the GT will be 455hp. This would be a logical increase from the existing 435hp. There's not normally larger increments than that for a facelift. This would also match the Camaro V8.

Yes that is the favourite guessed BHP, which is pretty cool as it leaves a lot on the table as that would be a conservative tune. So far we know Ford revised compression from 11:1 upto 12:1 and added both port and direct injection to the 5.0

However there is also rumours they gave the internals a thorough going over as well, in short they could happily put it out with around 470HP, but Ford like to keep power figures low and then use their own Power Packs to uplift those figures.

In short can see this revised Coyote making 500HP with just a tune and CAI, maybe even just a decent custom tune. Really is a good engine, though Ford are claiming the biggest improvements will be torque on this revised model rather than horsepower. :)

Couple that with new 10-speed auto and who knows the MY18 might break in the high 3's for the 0-60 dash which won't be bad for a RWD sports/muscle car and quarters in high elevens.

I think if I get my promotion my 'stang is on the cards, I'll hold out for the 2018 model though. It's likely to be Q1 2018 for them to be out, or is it due this year?

Might be able to order them around Summer-Winter this year and delivery sometime in 2018, probably Summer or later.

In Ford's images of the new digital dash there was hints towards potential horsepower or torque figures. The two figures highlighted was 455 and 755. As such people have taken from this that the 455 is the new revised figure for the MY18 updated 5.0 Coyote engine horsepower, though some believe it could be torque, though far more likely to be horsepower. The 755 figure is believed to be what the official GT500 would be if Ford released it, but so far only Shelby American have released a GT500 which coincidentally has pretty much 755HP with the super charger upgrade.

Currently the 5.0 makes 435HP on a US Ford tune with un-butchered headers, the new one gets a step up in compression and direct/port injection added to boost torque and fuel economy.

Ford also claimed internals are further uprated and it will have a new redline which is looking to be 7400-7600rpm.

So people are now waiting for confirmation, in short Ford could do many things:

- 455-470HP with stock intake system as seen now
- 460-485HP with GT 350 CAI and GT 350 throttle body as sold with PP2
- 490-515HP with GT 350 IM, CAI and TB

The first option is most likely simply as the current power packs will then still be compatible with the 5.0 Coyote and only the tune will need adjusting to suite.

Also Ford need to leave some on the table just in case they carry on with the 5.0 Coyote for the S650 chassis which makes an appearance around 2020 and is then they will probably give it around 500HP in the GT's in factory tune. Plus the GT350 has one more year of production so Ford won't allow the GT horsepower to get to close to the 526HP it makes.

In short the new revised engine is rather exciting as Ford are still knocking awesome engines out that are appearing in road cars, in short nice big loud V8's with great horsepower, manual gear boxes and a car that requires the driver to drive it and not the car drive the driver.

Apparently ""Ford did not expect Euro NCAP to test the Mustang and chose not to fit safety technology in Europe"......

Only scored low due to not offering a huge range of active safety systems, what actually maters the most is how the car protects you IN a crash situation.

This.

Loads have being crashed in style, no one has being injured so it seems to protect the front occupants pretty well.

Of course I shall try not to crash. :)

Eh? They crash tested it and found it lacking.

e.g.

During the test, the driver and passenger airbags failed to inflate sufficiently in an offset front collision.

In the full-width front impact test, a rear passenger was found to slide under their seatbelt. Rear seatbelt pre-tensioners and load-limiters would prevent this, Thatcham says.

For front passengers the Mustang scored good or adequate marks (top two scoring brackets), the main reason the Mustang has been marked down to 2 stars is due to a lack of active safety systems.

That,, but also:

"However, more fundamental updates may be needed if the Mustang is to get a significantly better result. We therefore hope Ford takes the opportunity to invest in the changes needed now for future Mustang generations.”
