NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

For anyone thinking of ordering one, I'd get in quick. The £ deterioation against the $ means I think an imminent price rise is more than likely.

Bye bye Mustang :p

Pointless test though why not compare two manuals or two auto's?

The auto Mustang beats the manual Mustang in a drag race and a DCT equipped car will do so even more as the auto in the Mustang is pretty basic but it can still change gear quicker than the manual.

They should compare with the auto as enough reviews show it doing 12.8s quarters so a lot closer though BMW should still win.

Still Mustang for sounds, looks every time or just throw the difference in money on a blower and bring that quarter down to 10s and still have change! ;)

Lol, agree. Auto vs Manual plus a 10K difference in price.

If i had £45K to spend on a brand new sports coupé. I'd buy the Mustang, supercharge it and the rest can be for petrol and tyres :p.

LOL gibbo no need to be so defensive. Nobody is doubting how much you love your mustang ....

As payback, I've just put down my deposit on a Lightning Blue Mustang...

I ordered lightning blue too. Does anyone know what it actually looks like? On the UK configurator, you get this:

on the US configurator, this:

but a ford media announcement (https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2016/04/06/new-standard-features-fresh-colors-for-2017-ford-shelby-gt350.html) suugests that it will actually be like this:

Any ideas? I am reluctant to ask the salesman because I don't think he'd have a clue.

For sure the Mustang offers better value........a BMW and M badge is never going to be 'value' for money is it. Comparing the sticker price between a Ford and BMW is just as pointless as comparing a manual against an double clutch auto.

My sales guy was very upfront about the new colours. And yeah the truth is until they see one in the flesh they dont know / dont have proper pics. Even the swatches that come in are not even done by ford but the dealers have to get them done and they cant even get hold of the paint yet.

In the US, lightning blue is already available on a couple of other models and looks exactly like those press shots of the shelby.

I'll be pretty disappointed if the colour looks anything like the UK configurator!
He's pretty sure he'll have something for me before my VIN gets allocated, so I should be able to change my mind.

He had one order get its vin this month and they already confirmed it would be coming in the new blue not deep impact, so that should be arriving before my VIN, so I might even be able to pop up to see it in the flesh.

As for the M2 thing, completely different animal. Not having a go at the M2 at all if you like that sort of thing, but I would never buy a BMW, not my thing. The fact I can buy a mustang and have it at 670hp still for much less than an M2 is just even more reason to buy the 'stang imo.

Not defensive, accurate. They're comparing one car to another that costs 30% more!
Stick a turbo or supercharger on the ford for part of that cost difference and the tables would change completely.

Was not meant t come across defensive. Auto gear boxes in last ten years or so have transformed cars performance! I've driven the M4 both manual and DCT and in comparison the DCT feels far quicker and it really is as well. Over a second faster on the 0-100 sprint.

Auto boxes these days are so much quicker than manuals even when the guy in the manual is rather capable but the auto is still faster and then get someone who is average at changing gear and well the auto is in another league.

The price difference does not bother me, if Mustang was 50k and M2 45k, I'd still buy the Mustang, for me it's more of an event and more special.

My issue with the review is compare manual to manual and auto to auto, it's a bad and unfair test as its not comparing apples to apples. I bet the auto Mustang beats the manual M2 for example.

Auto's are superb for drag racing as you got consistent fast results, whereas with a manual it is far harder and the difference between a good and bad run can be over a second.

This is a really good article on dragging the mustang, it also leads in to an article about the development of the engine... specifically they built it for supercharging because they knew it most likely would be at some point. Good to know.

Ford have always built these cars as a base platform to be modding friendly. It's why you see so many special editions too.

Some guys are over 1000 horsepower on stock engine though it's not recommended. Two of my mates have Whipples already, one is up and running with Stage 2, he will dyno but should be around 700 horses which is very safe for the engine as long as limiter is kept 7500rpm or less.

Lightning blue I think could look totally awesome, might be the colour I choose for my next one in 2018 if the 10 speed auto is available then. :)

Took mine to an advance driving day, it ended up being one on one as the other guy had to leave, as his wheel spacers caused the tyres to rub on the arches after the first run. I also accidentally cheated on the db test, I thought he said run at 1/3 max revs not 3/4. The M3 made 105db, mine mate 97db lol

I had a 550hp Walkinshaw VXR8, so pretty sure the Roush Stage1 670hp jobbie will be plenty for me

Roush is a nice kit, but harder to fit and you have to cut some parts so a reversal is not so easy. Also no whine with Roush, it's gotta whine man!!!! ;)

Roush is a lot cheaper though and stage 2 is now 730BHP! :)

I watched an hour long video on fitting a Roush supercharger, you have to cut the existing wiring, tubing, the strut brace and grind down parts of the engine. I dunno how normal that is or if that's the same for the whipple but it doesn't look like you can reverse it too easily.
