Need a new car....

Austin Montego Countryman Estate 7 seater? :D

kidding, of course.

haha - My dad used to own one of these back when I was a kid.

Why the 1.8TDCI? I believe the 2.0TDCI is a newer better engine. Also in the C-Max the 2.0 petrol won't be bad. I had it in a standard 2005 Focus and it was reasonably quick and returned 40mpg on mainly A-roads and motorway driving. It wasn't abysmal in town either.

The 1.6TDCi is only 90bhp, wanted something quicker for when the car is fully laden.

The 2.0 Petrol doesn't seem that bad from what I can find, will do some more research - thanks :)

The 1.8 tdcI is a rough but fafairly reliable thing. Honestly at least have a look at the Chevrolet's, they theare cheap but aacceptable

Chevvy's don't looks to bad actually, THIS one seems very good. A car I'd actually consider regardless of the RFL and the MPG

Honda CRV, 2010+.

Nice but out of budget.

Just noticed your budget, I missed it when posting on my phone.

I was in a similar position with a similar budget and decided not to spend up to it. I went for a mint 05 honda civic type s, 55k miles, 1 owner and fdsh, 2L, 160bhp, £3.5k

Oh nice! How do you find it now? still going strong?

The Vauxhall Meriva remains to this day the worst car I have ever driven. It really was just terrible with almost no redeeming features. Cheap and nasty, horrible driving position, nasty to drive, not even that spacious, just awful.

I can understand it's not going to be to everyones taste but if they were that unpopular, surely they wouldn't be so common on the road!

Never driven an Orlando, looks pretty terrible though! The Captiva would be much better, they're genuinely OKOK

AAn old civic doesn't really seem like what you're after at all

Rented a Captiva last year. I'm going to sound like a stuck record but that was terrible as well. Cheap and nasty plastic everywhere, not great to drive and very thirsty for what it was as a result of its rubbish aerodynamics and 4wd (Though I guess they may do 2wd versions?).

Not looking for a civic, just interested in how it's going.

Fox, just curious as to why you keep putting some of these vehicles down. No disrespect but I get the impression your preference with premium brands clouds your judgement on cheaper vehicles.

You need to remember the comparative cars he is looking at here, they're fine....for what they are and what they cost. A 2wd diseasel would be fine

For the money you'll get a relatively new and flexible car

The meriva however, is indeed absolutely shocking, I hate them

Found a 1.6i Zafira local to me. Its an 06 plate with 33k on the clock and drives well. There is a knocking noise which is an anti roll link in need of replacement but other than the awful cable design of the gear box, I can't fault it for 4.5k.

What you think?

If all it needed was the drop link replacing wouldn't you just change it?

Do you want to buy from the kind of owner who neglects basic maintenance such as this?

Mileage is pretty irrelevant, does it feel like its done the same 3 mile trip every day for 8 years? Seems expensive to me, but I'm not an expert on old people carriers.

That works for so many cars though.
Astra B, Vectra B, Pug 206..

All tripe but sold in their millions

£4.5k!? I just paid £2.3k for a 57 plate Vectra. Ok, it's done 85k miles but maybe I got a bargain?
