Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

Wasn't there a video interview where Shift's producer Patrick Soderlund stated that's what happened ?

Whether you want to believe him is up for debate though...

Anyway, isn't there an arcade & so-called sim (Elite) mode in Shift 2 ?

If he did say that then I am utterly stunned at the total rubbish they think they can feed us. No developer that knows how to make decent sim physics (this is really hard to do, REALLY hard!) has just switched it off at the last minute because they suddenly realised everything they had been working on would be inappropriate.

Besides, it wasn't "switched off", because the physics aren't toned down, they're inaccurate. A game like Gran Turismo might have toned down physics, Shift has insane physics.

I also wouldn't count on any "Sim (elite) mode" being anything like a sim, it will just be harder to control. Which is the point I am trying to make, if you're going to have an Elite mode that is totally unassisted and difficult to master then why not model the phyics on the real world? The easier modes would benefit as well, it would handle like you would expect a car to handle in real life but with tons of assists, making it easy enough.

Anyway, it feels like I'm beating a dead horse here, non simmers seem perfectly happy with the way Shift handles and SMS have made it pretty clear that they're just going to pretend to cater for the sim racers, but totally ignore them.

some good info coming out now

AE86 with a comedy large engine = me sold!

if the destruction Derby AI from the OG was fixed, I think I'll prefer this, even to pedigree racers like GT5 and Forza 3

looking good!

looks like SMS were restricted last game due to the NFS name.

Now EA has the NFS games sorted SMS looks like they have been allowed to make a full blown sim :D

Wish I still had so much faith in gaming companies. My expectation for Shift 2 is that it's just as arcade as the previous game with the awful tyre model and shaky cam.

But obviously I'm still hoping for a much improved gaming experience :)

Shift did not have arcade phsyics. It just had rubbish un realistic phsyics. Arcade is more like the DiRT and Grid games

Well this isn't using the NFS name this time round.

So we should see a change in how cars handle, even though they were fine and you guys just suck. :p

I'm really looking forward to this and hope we can get a tournie or league going. Giving that it's good enough.

Zonda R! I need my Zonda R.

*shakes about*

But I'm really looking forward to this.

Edit - Although I must admit, I had a problem with the engine noises, most if not all sounded the same except the odd muscle car.

so many good games out in the next month or two but I am only letting myself buy one. And I think this will be the one. Shogun 2 falls into a close second, sorry Sega.

when i get it.. ill judge.. a bit too early.. shift looked promising but was a load of poo and was sort of fixed by the modders.. to get the feel right.. so we'll see :) i hope its good i really do! i would love a proper racing game on pc.. proper sim.. with proper cars.. HQ and all that stuff..
