Need for Speed Shift - Time Trial Championship ** Season 3 ** (Multiplatform)

I've got ride height at defaults nikaz, which are both fully left at 85 front and 95
rear. Ill move the front to 75.

On the second bump when you enter the infield section, try approaching this part from a deeper angle, so you drive straight over the bump not at an angle.

Mostly corner exit oversteer, such as the very last corner before it comes back out to the banking section. But tbh, I've sort of got it under control now for the most part, particularly when I'm warmed up.

You could try increasing the rear -ve toe. This promotes straight line stability i.e. the rear wants to follow the front. Be aware though, too much & it will feel like understeer so you've gone too far.

Nikaz, did you see on the previous page that I'd calmed down the bumpiness with the sway settings, and increased understeer with damper fast bumps? What do you reckon to those settings. Seems to be helping.

Yeah I saw it. Your remedy is exactly what I was going to propose. Just wanted to check everyone was having the same issue before making the suggestion. Sometimes i.e. Marine, the game plays differently on different setups. I sometimes experience severe bouncing, normally rectified by exiting/ restarting the game. On this weeks combo I can't touch the curbs at all, pushes the front end to the outside, understeer if you like. I'm also suffering severe juddering (possibly front rear weight transfer) under throttle in 2nd & 3rd gears. It feels as though traction control is present.

Excellent time Merlin. But I'm afraid I've gone a bit quicker. I to am running zero downforce.

Well on the shift leaderboard their getting 37's, not sure how though. I think high 39's are possible for me using a pad.

Cheers Dan.
I've made a selection but no AWD I'm afraid. FWD though.
To be honest I only tested a few combo's for about half hour so if the general feeling is to make a change I'm more than happy to oblige.

Merlin mate, well done. Like Dan & Inam have said, to consistently maintain a couple tenths gap between the top three is truly outstanding. To top it of you've even managed a well deserved podium. You've come along way since last season. Most people would have packed it in, but no not you. You persevered & got your reward. Very Well Done!!

Let's get Season 3 Week 6 underway

Week 6: SEAT Leon CUPRA 'Works Converted' @ Autopolis Lakeside

Chosen by NIKAZ

The other track I was contemplating is Autopolis Lakeside. If you can try both guys & give some feedback as to which you prefer I'll change before I edit the front page.

Yay! I finally did it, got podium!!! Didn't want to post any words again till after 6pm in case it was bad luck for me (superstitious). I was worried mercyless or someone would come up with a beating laptime at the 11th hour. Thanks Nikaz for your words of encouragement, indeed, perseverance is the key. Had I not got 3rd today, I was seriously thinking of packing it in, but this has kept me inspired now. Likewise thanks inam, and thanks dan for not having time to play today, I suspect I would have been down to 4th otherwise lol :D

Well done inam and nikaz on your amazing laptimes.

Hope you're gonna colour our names in the final leaderboard nikaz, I've been waiting to see that :P

With pleasure Merlin. No Champagne I'm afraid, we've got driving to do.

I don't brake on that bit Merlin.
5th gear (maybe drop to 4th before the first turn) - Get over to the left on the down slope, off throttle - flick right and almost immediately back on throttle flick left. Drop to 4th for the next sequence.
It's a bit tricky to get right consistently hence the state of the cars at the end.
The off throttle flick - back on throttle flick technique used keeps the back end from sliding out, as you, like me have experienced.
As you come down the slope the car is evenly balanced. The problem we face is the initial turn is at the point the track levels out. At this point the weight transfers to the front of the car making the rear light & very loose. If you brake whilst turning at this point the rear will become even looser & lose contact (i.e. endo on a bike when you lean forward whilst applying the front brake) with the ground & spin out. This is why we don't brake. Instead you minimise throttle (or off completely) whilst negotiating the initial turn.
Note: Don't misunderstand me, the rear is still light here, but importantly is still in contact with the ground because no braking has taken place. There's still a chance the rear will spin out though, just a lesser one.
To stop the rear spinning out we use the FWD to force the rear to follow the front, straighten up. This is only possible with FWD cars.
Once you've made the initial turn you need to apply FULL throttle (drop to 4th if it helps) whilst turning in the opposite direction which just so happens to be where we want to go.

Here's a clip of what I'm sort of talking about. You couldn't achieve this RWD

Thanks mercyless and nikaz, I'm on stiff sway now and changed final gears to 2 notches left from centre. I'll give that technique a go nikaz.

Is this what you mean?

Yeah that's about right

The bit right after, I've been cutting across the grass and picking up the racing line again, is that what you're doing or are you sticking rigidly to the line?

http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/5338/autopolis2.jpg

I stick to the track. But if you're still accelerating cutting the corner then that's probably OK as well

Ah well, I can't really do it. :(
Did it once or twice but couldn't keep the car under control very well after that

Yeah it's quite tricky Merlin.
If you want to brake make sure you brake in a straight line on the down slope well before the turn in. Then off the brake as you make the turn.
Also you could try a couple of tuning tweaks to the dampers.
Tip - Don't listen to the Tuning Guide Guy - Read the text associated with the setting instead.
On the rear damper settings (Rear Slow/Fast Bump - Rear Slow/Fast Rebound) change them to promote Understeer, opposite of 'Good for tighter tracks'. This may help the rear from stepping out. If it causes the slower corners (hairpins) to be hard to get the car round, you've always the handbrake to assist.
