^ Need for Speed Shift ^

oh dear

Attempted the tier 2 - mixed series - time attack event and at the 3rd race, my R34 was bouncing all around the track as the stage 2 suspension upgrade I fitted lowered it 1.5 inches. The circuit was quite bumpy and obviously it was bottoming out so i couldnt post a fast time and ultimatly lost the series!

If you think that's bad my works murcielago won't even pop into 5th gear anymore because it's so low to the ground it can't pick up enough speed. tops is about 140 now. any tiny bump in the road results in the rear diffuser(?) bouncing off the track which makes it impossible to handle or accelerate.

Just played the demo of this and it is shockingly bad in my opinion. What is with the racing line they put on there? It says to brake, i do so and then i shoot over the corner as i am still going to fast. It says to keep speed, i do so i shoot over corner as i am going to fast.

I start the game up, immeadiatly it has brake assist and steering assist, seriously, why would you need this? :/

Hmmm. Just noticed something I didn't realise they had included. Was messing about tuning a scooby, got it upto 450bhp and when I turn the nitrous on the clutch slips.

Quite impressed they've included that, rather than just adding as an upgrade without it really doing much.

dunno, i've been playing the full version all day and i think it's shockingly fantastic. they include options to turn stuff on and off like every other racing game. though i agree that one aspect was shockingly bad, the default g25 settings are terrible, but you can change them :)

Anyone tried it online yet?

Just done two hours or so of online play, it's laggy as hell. Plus it doesn't seem to sync the friggin' starting-lights up at the start of a race... some people will be off and half way round the first bend before others even get the first red starting light.

Garbage... which is a shame because the single player is alright.

i played for a good few hours but havnt gone back to it, i've actually played grid instead of it, which for me shows its ok but not great, but i mainly put this down to not having a wheel, i find it a bit too twitchy on a 360 pad, so untill i have a wheel i'll wait on playing it. it looks great though and seems pretty fun and hopefully online will be good if errors are fixed.

turn off all assists, turn off the noob line then adjust the controls.. its actually more sim than arcade so you need to learn how to drive each car.. not to mention spend time tweaking each cars setup .. the more effort you put in the better it is ,

yep ive had quite a few online races and had no lag, no sync problems .. considerably less idiots than in GRID.. best race was around Spa, we were in tier 1 cars so it took forever :p

Hey dunker, can u post ur G25 settings please?

Well I bought this on Saturday morning and am impressed so far, started off with the Escort Cozzie, then bought myself and tuned the nuts off of an RX-7 and Elise.

The game is pretty good in my opinion, Out of the box there are a few issues, I have turned all of the assists off apart from traction control which I set to low on some cars (mainly the rear wheel drive beasts) the other assists apart from stability control are worthless and negate from the game play imo. The automatic set up of the xbox pad isn’t great and as far as I can tell hasn’t mapped the NOS button but who needs NOS anyway?

Once you have got the settings right the games great. When upgrading my cars I noticed that without balanced tuning you can really end up with a car that you simply cannot control, this game is clearly not about packing as much power under the hood as possible. Fine tuning for extra down force and grip seemed to help with the excesses of power in my RX-7 and turned my Elise into a track day monster capable of taking any corner at just about any speed.

Also the invite events are great, I spent most of last night trying to get a clean lap on a 35 odd corner track in a Bughatti Veyron, so far I have failed to tame the beast, although I have finished the event in first I can assure you it was far from a clean lap.

As for how it runs, so far, so good – running at 1080 with good levels of detail my cards didn’t seem to have any problems at all, nice and smooth and it looks fantastic. All I need now it to get rid of the xbox pad and get myself a g25.

I didnt need NoS until the level 2 time attack events, the AI always somehow seemed to put better times than me.

Best event i've done so far, mentioned it a few pages back, 7 minutes of pure concentration, doubt ill ever do it as a clean lap :D

I struggled to keep the Bughatti in a straight line when powering out of the corners, too much power to quickly was the order of the evening. The way that the car torque steers as you try to hold on for dear life – classic. one question, how many times did you fall for that jump on the straight forgetting to break and being slammed into a wall at 200mph?

im upgrading to a 5850 or 5870 soon, this better smoke it because i hear it has bad performance issues (im still waiting for the game to arrive).

The performance issues are ATi driver related, so you'll need to wait for them to be fixed. Which I'd imagine they'll do for the 5xxx release set. Well you'd hope so anyway.

The demo is just about playable maxed out on my 4770 @ 1680x1050

Yes demo still out :)

From the mixed views around here about the game im still going to buy it for the pc but i'll wait a week or 2 for the price to fall a bit then i'll get it.

Edit: My 4890 runs fine with the demo im using cat 9.7 tho so maybe the newer driver need a fix

Would disagree with that from my experience. I'm running at 5040 * 1050 across triple screens with a 4870X2 without any problems and with most settings on high and 4*AA.

Using CAT 9.9

Don't know the actual FPS that it's running at but there are no noticable lags or slow downs.

Taff

For me this game is a pig to run.

I am getting about 25FPS max when playing this game. However when i'm overtaking mutlitple cars the game slows down and stutters to about 18-20FPS. Added to that quite long loading times between races.

Even turning the settings down don't seem to make any difference to the FPS.

This is the 1st game thats struggled on my system .... normally i can play every game with maxed out graphics .... but not this one , goddamit.

Whilst good for head-to-head comparison, don't for one second think your times around any track bear the slightest relation to how you'd do in real life :)

All notions of realism went out the window when I managed 242mph in a BMW 1-series

You sure that wasn't kmh? 245 = roughly 155mph!

Its strange people saying about it running poorly as I have what I would consider to be a dog of a setup by todays standards when it comes to gfx, yet with details up and AA at 2x it still runs well.
