^ Need for Speed Shift ^

Hey guys. Brought NFS:S yesterday, set it all up with my Logitech Driving Force Pro Steering Wheel. Only I'm having problems with the wheel shaking, it goes from left to right if i take my hands of it and it seems to happen when coming out of corners too ! Any ideas? Could it be the deadzone setting or .. ?

hey. does need for speed need the disk to play? because my dvd drive is broken and was wanting to buy NFS:shift. what i would do is download the iso and install it then use the genuine cd key. but the question is, do i need the disk to play?? :/

it does but it only uses it for like 1 second i guess just to confirm thats its legal or something then u can play without it.

i guess u can use some crack to play without cd

ugh!! i hate using cracks >< i think id be aswell buying it from steam then :/ i hate DRM and having to use CDs :S i have no disk drive installed in my pc atall. and the one i used to plug into hotswap sata has rescently died >< disks suck. lol. but i love having the game box and the official cd for some reason, its nicer than owning a game on steam XD

hmmmm

It plays very odd - the deadzones and sensitivities just won't go far enough. Only the last third of the trigger is used for accelerating regardless of values it seems and this is the main culprit of the oversteer thing - it's virtually impossible to apply part throttle so as to gradually accelerate out of a corner.

Similar with the steering, absolutely nothing you set gives you the ability to steer smoothly and gently.

It's playable from the bonnet cam or in car but as soon as you watch the replay you find you've pretty much drifted the entire lap.

Needs patching/modding IMO to sort the controls properly.

edit - this is with a 360 controller btw

Just bumping this old post as I have the same issue - with throttle deadzone set to 0% you still have to press it halfway before anything happens :/

I even checked the 360 controller itself in Windows and sure enough, as soon as you press the trigger it responds so the game is at fault.

Is there a fix for this yet?! I am using the latest patch (1.02).

I've played it a fair bit more since I posted that (I grabbed it cheap) and whilst I get on better with it now than I did then, the above is still largely true, it is very very hard to be smooth with this game due to the control settings.

This seems to be a PC only issue, because I googled it and I found a console owner saying that with throttle deadzone set to 5%, his throttle operated without him pressing the trigger! We would need to set deadzone to something like -50% for it to operate properly (if we could).

I'm having similar issues on PC, oversteer everywhere, no throttle modulation. I'm playing with a 360 pad. Total showstopper for me as the game is impossible to enjoy like this.

I think with the 360 pad you can't smoothly use the analogue stick. Initiating powersteer? Which just the throws the cars wheels, you need a steering wheel to smoothly turn I think. 900 degrees my wheel is set to.

Have you ever been 120+ mph in a supercar??

Never been in a supercar, I've been over 120+ in a normal car though :p

And even at half or a quarter of that speed the cars in NFS Shift are tricky to drive due to the rather poor controls. And no it isn't because I expect arcade handling where I can go round corners at high speed without having to brake etc. :)

And I don't know of any cars in real life where the throttle doesn't work until you press it halfway down ;)

Well I have been in a supercar at over 120 mph, and I can assure you it's not like the game, dirtydog is right.

I'm going to breakout the DFGT soon and try that, hopefully it'll be better.

Well the LP640 drives flawlessly in the game with a wheel. We're all right in this situation as it's subjective. Racing games should be played with a wheel any way! :p

Playing this on PS3 with the controller and with a RWD car I put the slider in the Tuning section to full understeer, for an AWD car about halfway between full understeer and default.

Setting it up like that means that even a works converted Viper SRT-10 behaves quite good with traction control on low and stability control on

NFS Shift really comes into its own with a G25 wheel set or similar as it gives you a much greater sense of control. I have tried a controller but it just felt alien to driving and I was pants, I'm told theres a different learning curve using a console controller so with time it gets easier but I have to agree with LeJosh 'Racing games should be played with a wheel any way! :p''

If you head over to http://www.virtualr.net/category/need-for-speed-shift/ there are some addons purely for steering and tire tweaking..

Just bought NFS Shift, seems like it will be a great game!

Not having any problems with steering or throttle linearity, seems perfectly controllable on an wired 360 controller.

Looking forward to putting a few hours in over the weekend.
