Need For Speed Shift

Tried those settings and it's still a long way from the likes of Forza. It just makes a bit easier to control, it doesn't help the feel of the physics model, which to me feels terminally broken.

Horrible game, roll on Forza 3.

I think its a little better and that part about taking back the nasty things said was part of the quote.

I still think it drives crap.

aafter playing for 3 hours last night with a friend and getting a beasting on the hardest settings, we turned on traction control to high.

suddenly the game is not a battle to stop permanent fishtailing

it is lightweight but it is fun.

Ugh, game is even less enjoyable with a wheel IMO.

Complete cack in comparison to Forza 2, PGR 4, Dirt 2 or GRID. I actually enjoyed the previous NFS games more than this :/

This is a great need for speed game, the best in years. When compared to the juvinile behaviour of Dirt 2 or the stoic greyishness of racepro. Its not as good as PGR or Forza but its a great semi-arcade racer that entertains without the usual brash, loud, annoying brand-filled gloss that usually veneer's the mediocrity of recent titles.

Its fun to play, it looks great, its challenging unless you set everything to low/easy, progression is steady and constantly rewarding. The game is VERY solid on all fronts, i agree it excels at none, but this should not be thought of as a typical NFS game - because its in a different league altogether.

Ditto, but miss the cops!, lol

i bought this for the ps3 today, wasn't sure what to expect, quite mixed reviews.

So far I have had around 5 hours today on it and its pretty good. Tried it with the pad to start with as couldn't get it to find my G25 and it was awful, very twitchy, found it hard to complete the 1 lap 'test run' to set the games difficulty. Restarted the console and got the G25 working and its great fun!!

First thing I noticed was the sound. The cars sound glorious, and the sense of speed is spot on. The game is far from a simulation, quite arcadey with some sim elements included. I haven't got to the really powerful cars yet but with most of the slower ones its easy to control them. Too much power out of a corner and easy to catch the slide. The game certainly has the fun factor, its great fun flying into corners and fighting with the car as it tries to oversteer on the way out. Some cars handle pretty awful (I bought an S4 and it understeers to hell) but others, such as the Elise or E36 M3 are great. Well balanced and a joy to drive. As soon as the race is over you want to jump back in and drive again. Graphics are good but not wonderful, they have used various techniques in the game such as motion blur and camera shake to hide them somewhat and theres slight slow down from time to time. Loading times are slow but bearable. The HUD is quite annoying. I choose to turn it off completely and turn off the racing line. This leaves a nice clean display, but without the track diagram you need to know the tracks well oterwise you'll be spending time in the gravel trap. Lots of classic tracks included, I have raced on Brands/Donnington/Silverstone/Spa and a few made up tracks and there are great fun. Bumper cam as usual is the best for me.

It seems the controls can't be changed from the standard ones, which is a shame as some buttons (such as the handbrake and NOS) are down on the geatshifter, making it hard to use them in a race as eyes off the road for a few seconds and you're off, the game needs a lot of concentration!

The AI is superb, some of the best I have played against. They fight against you and with each other, make mistakes and if you pass them aggressively they will more than likely come back at you! I have it set at the highest difficulty level with all driver aids off apart from ABS on low and they are very challenging.

The races are laid out in many formats, from lapped races to duels, one make series, time trials. A nice variation. I haven't had chance to try the drift mode but I aren't too fussed about this. As mentioned elsewhere the damage does't seem very good, mainly scratches and smashed windows. I have had the bonnet off my S4 once with a head on with a tyre wall!

Overall I would give it a good 8/10. Worth a buy IF you have a wheel!

Couldn't disagree more about the AI. Rather than normally just following a dumb line, this is set to stupidly aggressive. Haven't had a single race so far, including duels, where I haven't been rammed off the road. It's like being online with a bunch of nobs :/

My first drifting event this afternoon convinced me to forget about this game, I just think it's horrid and normally I can get on with just about any racer.

I always end up ramming them off the road ;)

Certainly haven't found them too aggressive, they are easy enough to get around if you pick the right points on each track,

And what if you are already in front and then they ram you off the road?

can't really say I have had that, just the odd occasion when they come up the inside and if you keep going push you off, I just brake earlier and come back on their inside out of the corner to take the place back.

a lot of mixed reviews on here but do people think its worth buying??

Althought i've had a few good races, and it has some nice features, i would have to say no, its not worth it.

It just looks unfinished and is riddled with bugs.

I wish i'd have waited and bought it in the bargain bin now.

It makes you appreciate how good other games like GT5 and FM3 are. Even though none are out yet, you just know that they are much more polished.

I'm enjoying it, it's just one of those games where you can just pick up and play and not think much of it, enjoy it though.

Just bought a lotus 111R, put all stage 2 kit on...OMG this thing is like a go-kart, it seems to bounce of the limiter in EVERY gear lol
