Need For Speed Shift

I felt so good about getting this game after reading many reviews stating how good it was and an excellent simulator. Im very lucky i had a go at it before i planned on getting the game as i was utterly disappointed :(

I really thought this was going to be a change for the Need For Speed Series as they dont want to touch the "illegal" street racing scene any more. A very big let down.

Will just hold off the driving games until Forza.

First impressions are 'meh'...

  • HUD and pretty much every screen is too cluttered.
  • I don't want something popping up telling me I've won a new badge mid corner
  • Handling is weird - very twitchy but also sluggish as the same time
  • The much lauded graphics are no better than previous offerings, and the cockpit views no better than something like GT5P or PGR4
  • After only 15 minutes I had a bug where the game just sat at a black screen till I paused then unpaused it

To me it feels like GRID but less fun. Hopefully it grows though.

I played this for a bit round my friends earlier. Now I initially approached the game with caution thinking that all nfs games look great in the pr material. Against my instincts I did start getting sucked into the, especially as this iteration was. touted as a serious attempt at a simulation.

fast forward 2hrs after playing and I'm pretty dissapointed. Can't really say its a aim! it actully feels a lot like one oglf the old toca touring car games. which thhere is absolutely nothing. wrong with....10 years ago. it just feels weird, as if the car is pivotting at the rear quarter of the cars!

Anyway far too much waffle already, the crux of it is dont expect a sim 'cause its not, no matter what the press say. however what it is, is an enjoyable arcade racer with a decent amount of tracks (missing Tsukuba! :(), good modelling and the car sounds are fantastic!

I'll definately rent this one methinks.

It's not bad at all this.

Handling was a bit twitchy at first, but I'm playing around with the steering sensitivity which is helping a little. I upgraded the tyres too which helped!

Probably will be on Live soon...im not buying it till ive had a go of the demo to see what its like...so far on the 360 the only need for speed ive actually enjoyed was Most Wanted and undercover...all the other ones that were released sucked.

Im hoping Shift doesnt suck but i have my doubts...might trade in a few games and get it.

i'm with you there, EA should really stick to that style of game pro street was garbage and from what i have read on shift it's just as bad (maybe a little better) but no where near as good as grid or forza 2, i think renting it will be the best plan

Pretty disappointed with this (have it for the PS3)...

1) as stated above the HUD and all other screens are very cluttered.. can barely see the car on some
2) Not the best handling, some cars are better than others but out of the box not good
3) Average graphics at best, and replays are very average
4) The game seems confused, it doesn't know if it's a sim or an arcade racer..as it was pushed as a Sim I find it hard to understand why you get stars for crashing into people and races with objectives like get 4 cars to spin off the road...
5) Livery/Vinyl bits are poor
6) The option for x and square for accel/brake would have been nice as I don't like the PS3 pad (only got it on the PS3 as a few mates were)

Compared to how happy I was with Dirt 2 this time last week, disappointing :(

Roll on Forza 3!

Phew! I'm not the only one. Cars don't steer like that :(

Nice presentation though :)

Well I got Dirt 2 a few days ago and then picked up Shift yesterday and I have to say that I'm thoroughly dissapointed with Shift. I'm not sure whether its just becuase Dirt 2 is so good that it pales in comparison or if it just isn't that good. Loading times aren't great as said earlier and just reading a load of text every loading screen is naff and boring! I just don't feel like I get the level of excitement from this game like I should. I finish playing it thinking "Hmm...that was...er...ok...ish" but i'm gutted I have paid £40 for it. Game stores really need to sort out this broken seal thing for exchanges!

i thought Shift was very good as an arcade racing game. Looks and sounds great and sense of speed was done very well compared to some car games that are out that seems like your doing a Sunday drive at 140mph.

Was looking forward to getting this but some of you guys are putting me off....stop it! lol

Seriously, if you haven't already, get Dirt 2 and leave Shift. Certainly don't spend your hard earned cash on it. It may warrant a rental but not £40 notes.

Played the dirt 2 demo...it's naff :p

I thought so too with the pad. I then went out and bought one of the Microsoft Wireless Racing Wheels it was on offer and it totally transforms the game. If I didn't have the wheel I wouldn't have got Dirt 2 but with the wheel...man its fantastic!
