Need For Speed Shift

I love the look of the cockpit view in this it just looks incredibly detailed but whats putting me off buying this is the stuff people are sayoing about the steering, is it really that bad?.

Also I love driving on wet tracks in racing games but I noticed over the last few years not many racing games are adding wet tracks, GT5 Prologe hasn't done it, Forza hasnt, and neither has GRID. In fact the only racing game I played recently that had a wet track was PGR4 but thats more of an arcade racer.

I personally think the steering is annoying but however realistic, if you have ever driven a perfomance car and really pushed it, and had a good old yank on the steering wheel without being smooth it is VERY similar to how I find this game reacts, very snappy etc.

I think to get the most out of this game and a lot of recent and upcoming titles a steering wheel is needed which I am currently looking for as Forza 3 certainly deserves one, it just gives a LOT more control, allows you to be smoother and enjoy the whole gaming experience a LOT more, it's just such a shame the 360 does not support the Logitech G25 :( :(

The steering in this game reminds me of GT5-P, it overgrips and then suddenly lets loose and spags you off the road, the reason that I for one compare if to Forza is that it has silly boundaries, it has too much traction for its own good in some cars, no way near real amounts in others, and there is not "You're losing it" zone like when you're maxing out your cars grips in Forza, it just lets go instantly with no feel.

Do the drift races have a different set of physics from the standard races? When I tried the game I was limited to a tuned 1 series coupe which purportedly had 600+ bhp but I couldn't get it to slide for toffee even though it was ridiculously powerful!

My rental copy should be here in a few days. Looking forward to a bit of real road racing.

I have never driven a real car that behaves the way the cars in Shift behave, and I have driven various different types of car on the limit on track.

Yes, real cars can be twitchy and snappy on the limit, but not in the way that they are in Shift.....

Anyone who thinks this game feels anything like realistic have clearly never played a decent sim :)

Can drifting be done online or is it just racing?

EDIT:

Just turned the 360 on, it loads up my profile then goes to the menu with a picture of my career CCX but only has "Start Career" or "Options"

Has my saved game gone bye bye for no reason?

I bought this on release - not played it that much, got all the stars on the first tier and starting the second now. But controlling the veyron is quite hard for me (controller) I'm trying to do the invitational but I'm having trouble staying on the track.

Really like the game - only bad thing are the loading screens. Have yet to play it online.

Does anyone else reckon it will be quite short? Probably a rental tbh.

A good stop gap till Forza 3!

I dont think it will compete with FM3 as that is likely to be massive and even more so online. Biggest worry for me with FM3 is the AI and how good the racing/competition will be from the games AI.

For me SHIFT will likely be SHAFTED to occasional play when i get hold of FM3. Still lets see whats announced at TGS as FM3 and GT5 are i reckon my longterm games for the next year and more.

I have a Ps3.Dirt 2 is great.I gave Need For Speed Shift a try, after seeing all these rave reviews, I thought they had made a totally new game. What an absolute joke!!.The graphics are acceptable, but the handling on the cars is something else, just trying to keep your car on a track is a struggle.Im 28 have owned atari 2600,commodore 64,amiga 500,600a,sega master system, megadrive, playstation 1,2,3 and like racing games, and although the graphics are a lot better than the last game, the handling is even worst. I returned the game after 2 hours, after buying it from asdas.
Anyone on here who says that this game is good clearly just does not know what fun is.
most unrealistic game ever.... trying to keep a m3 for oversteering and understeering at 50mph in a straight line isnt fun and isnt real. Dont waste your money

please I like games like everyone else
PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY EA ARE TRICKING YOU WITH THE REVIEWS, THEY OWN THE SHOW AND THIS REFLECTS IN THE GOOD REVIEWS PEOPLE HAVE GIVING

Its all about the money, few hand offs here and there, notice how much they have advertised this piece of crap.

See this is what i don't understand.... its like theres 2 different games I certainly don't have any trouble getting round the track yet others seem to find it impossible.

Understeer and oversteer in a straight line??? not sure i know what you mean or even if you know what you mean ;)

Think my game has screwed up big time now, I still only have new career and options.

I go to start a new career, do the race then have to choose a car but I have 800k from my career.

I go to choose a car but I can't as I don't have any garage spaces and I can't delete any.

What a load of poo!

is anyone else finding some of the battles hard? Just doing the m3 vs rs4 one and one tiny mistake and hes gone! this is on easy too!

I literally can not do these battles. My driver either seems to have rubber arms gripping the steering wheel or the opponent has a flux capacitor.

Ive also just bought a Porsche Cayman and whilst I know its rear wheel drive, it just can not hold a straight line on the road.

In short, the game is very difficult.

Yeah I'm finding some battles hard - In the end I had to ram the other car off the track... twice in order to win!

Just to make clear I can stay on the track with all the cars apart from the veyron... and maybe other high performance cars. I might have to put the stability control on!

Seriously mate, you cannot push your cars to the limit on the game, it makes it so that its impossible to do what you wanna do.God knows hows you guys think this is acceptable. The cars handle like boats, they stay in the centre of the screen, almost as if theres an invisible pole thats its just rotating round, but the fun factor for handling, is almost imposible to get to grips with ,as the cars just dont handle like they should, even games made 10years ago can put this to shame.the graphics arent as good as grid or dirt or gt 5prolouge forza 2 etc.

People who might get this game and pay the full £35 or whatever, and end up kidding themselves that there having fun.A month later its on the shelf never to be played again.Compare this to Grid,Dirt 2 etc and ill be playing them for years, nearly that with Grid already.

Yes cockpit view is ok,but no better than grid dirt 2, GT5, the screen annoyingly dims when you crash, but the most annoying thing on the ps3 version, is it doesnt matter how hard you crash, there is no damage to your car apart from cracked windscreen and your car looks like it needs a wash.

I can think of loads of other reasons to not buy this game but look on all the other forums like I did, and theres a lot of people who say the same as me.Infact its the majority of complaints of what makes this an utter crap game hypes up to get people like me and you, who enjoy a good racing game.

Yeah that does take a bit of insane driving to to beat.. I love the RS4 in real life, so went for this in the game....

It was this battle that made realise that something was a bit iffy with the handling, as one mistake and as said he was well off into the distance...

Putting most of the controls down to 5% if using a pad really does work a treat, but its still a job to keep up in the battles..

just need to keep trying you'll get him in the end....

Its not a bad game, its just very picky on its friends so it seems...

Online is totally insane.. The matches aren't great on PSN, I found myself on a kids playground in one race, then another it was like the schumacher family were all online..:p

Well to be fair he invested a whole 2 hours into the game...

Not saing the game hasnt issues but thats a quick judgement. Im glad he doesnt do reviews either.
Bit quick to give the game a fair review.

Will someone please tell us a particular car and track to try that they found impossible?
Ive done only tier 1 so far.

So someone arrange to pick a car and track and we can see how everyone gets on? That way we can have something everyone can relate too.

Try to race with Veyron 16.4, i believe its fifth invitational event. Its really hard keep that car on the road for whole lap let alone racing other cars.
