Need for Speed Time Trial Championship ** Season 2 ** (Multiplatform)

I know the car is horrible to drive but it offers a real challenge in car control.

Why not take the opportunity to do a few laps around 'The Ring' if this weeks combo isn't to your liking.

From the First Post

In addition to the Weekly Events there's a Bonus Event running alongside. This particular event is immune to deadline so will continue to run as long as this thread stays alive. Yeah, you guessed it THE NORDSCHLEIFE.
  • You can use any car you like for the Bonus Event be it from Tier 1, 2, 3, or 4.
You can use 'Race' mode instead of 'Time Attack' if you prefer.

Well, I certainly have no complaints about the car as everyone has an equal chance.

I've been racing this track ALL day, I kid you not. ALL bloody day :D

I've watched and rewatched Nem's video several times. I've noted the times he gets at each corner. For instance, on the left turn just before going uphill to the corkscrew he's at 0:39 seconds at the apex of the corner, whereas no matter how good I do up to that bit, I'm always at about 44 seconds. I've been skidding the car around the track like he does and racing out of my skin, and the best I can do is this. What gets me is how you guys are getting 1:34, let alone 1:30!

How do you do it?? It just seems impossible. Nikaz, any chance of a video from you and your settings? :) I've messed with my settings a lot but maybe they're set up a bit crap.

<snip>

I'll post a vid tomorrow. Give me a min & I'll post my settings.

Haven't been able to totally iron out the instability, although it is easier.
Stay away/off the curbs. You get severe pull from the extreme edges of the track wrecking your lap time.
Switch to manual gears. You only have to use 4th through 6th once the car is rolling.

T-1 Brake really late. Hammer the brakes, they won't lock up. Follow the racing line maintaining 4th gear. Don't change up to 5th until the car is straight. Assuming manual gears here.
T-2 Edge to the left, stay in 5th. Off the gas (no brakes), turn in clipping the apex, power round still in 5th.
T-3 Got good exit from T-2 you should be able to take 6th briefly before dropping once again to 5th. Repeat T-2.
T-4 Slight kink right. Should be well in 6th here, avoid the curb.
T-5 Two options here dependant on style. Both in 5th
1. Brake late (quick stab) in a straight line, turn in, wait for the exit smoothly applying the gas
2. Brake lightly slightly early, turn in power round
T-6 Brake late well in the red, turn in late.
T-7 Corkscrew - Brake hard at the beginning of the crest, then slightly off the brake dropping to 4th stabbing on the brakes again to take the left turn. You're better off braking early than late and over cooking it. Still in 4th manage the corkscrew as best you can.
T-8 Stay in 5th powering round following the racing line.
T-9 From 6th drop to 5th with a slight dab of the brakes. Don't go too wide of the apex, you'll compromise your exit.
T-10 Brake hard quite late on the brakes dropping to 4th. Slow in fast out and stay off the inside curb. Power to the finish.

My settings.

Merlin,

Just preparing a vid of two laps from the start. Done in bonnet view rather than cockpit to match your playing view.
The second lap is 1:31.278 so not bad considering Fraps.
Using the settings I've posted.

Video quality will improve once processing is complete.

Thanks nikaz, can't wait to see that, should be interesting to see the expert at work.

I've been advised (on another forum) to turn off the remainder of my assists, ie, abs, traction & stability. In which case, it's probably gonna put me out of this contest for a while until I can learn to tame the beast(s) unaided.

Yeah, when I record with fraps, the framerate drops considerably and take some getting used to.

ABS is OK on some cars to have IMO. I wouldn't worry about turning ABS off.

Traction Control should be set to LOW if you need to use it. But I recommend you don't use it, it slows you down.
e.g. Exiting a corner - With TC ON, the car/game will sense a loss in traction (even a very slight one) & cut/reduce the power to compensate for the loss in traction resulting in a lack of forward momentum i.e. loss of speed. This effect is also present in long curves like we have in Laguna Seca.

Stability Control/Assist I've never used to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure it slows you down. I suspect every time you make a movement (Gas, brake, left, right) especially off the racing line, the game constantly cuts/adjusts the power to keep the car pointing where you want/need to go.

With TC & SC ON the cutting power effect is probably multiplied.

Yeah, all that would no doubt account for why I'm making such slow progress with regards to faster lap times, so in theory I should now be able to start seeing quicker laps. The good thing is I know the track very well now, so that helps. Just tried it without traction and stability. The car keeps oversteering and ends up facing the track the wrong way at the first hairpin.
Just take it easy for a few laps/sessions to familiarise yourself with the car. Try not to steer to harshly & always be ready to counter steer. Trust me I was all over the place with this car initially, still am sometimes.

Slight improvement!!!!

Good time inam. I know how hard it is to get mid 32's let alone 31's.
I know this is going to sound a bit off, but I find this car more manageable the faster you go, to a point obviously. Probably the aero downforce working. When going slower you have to combat the insane turbo boost that kicks in, kicking the rear around suddenly causing the front to sway. Ideal for drifting.
I'm actually enjoying the challenge.
Get comfortable controlling this car on this track you'll all be better drivers for it, I promise you. Not many cars in this game challenge the drivers skill in throttle & steering control that this car does.

Want to point out once again, in game is flawless for me.. However you do seem adament, so perhaps the extra oomph of your 5850 is just enough to make the replays and garage run as smooth as it does in-game. Because for me, in those sections it's falling just short of perfect.

Hi doc,
Can you check something for me please.
Right click the 'Shift.exe' select Properties.
Check the file version is 1.02
Sometimes the update doesn't fully install first time. If it states anything other than 1.02 you'll have to re-install the update.
If you've Vsync on, the 'My Cars' section may be limited to 30fps, probably in line with the console versions. I get +100fps in the My Cars section with vsync off.
I'm running a 4870x2, Cat 10.1 in Win7 64bit btw

Pre patch there was no mouse support in the menus, suggesting to me the menus are identical to the console versions & I did experience lag when switching cars in the menu's, post patch no problems at all, bringing me back to my suggestion of checking the file version of the exe.

Bit of info circulating about another DLC available sometime this Feb which will include 10 Ferrari's, a Brand New Ferrari Tier in Career mode & additional endurance races. No new tracks though... bummer.

Some of the ten Ferrari's mentioned;

FXX
California
F430 + variants
F50 GT

Can't wait for this. Ready for season 3 with a bit of luck.

No official word from EA at the moment

I've received the Week 10 nomination from Nem so we're good to go @ 6.00pm.
Just in case an option car is ready too. Can't have three dodgy cars on the trot though surely?
