OLD requirements in spoiler. Things have changed.
Want a new car, wanted to keep my swift as its done me well and never had a problem, however its just to small struggling to get 5 carrier bags in the boot is just ridiculous!
and I want more mod cons

I have set myself a budget of 6k maximum the cheaper the better If i don't need to spend 6k to satisfy my needs then suggest away.

what do i want?

at least 0-60 8 secs the quicker the better
a boot bigger than a shoe doesn't need to be like a cave though
bluetooth/aux in would be nice
sports style seats i cant stand flat miserable seats
no BMW / VW not my thing at all (now open to the idea, I should at least try them)
I like car with a bit about them, the "sporty" range i suppose
mpg I'm not too fussed about but lets say 25+ can be a bit less but not silly low

This car will be used to commute in 14 miles each way on dual carriage way for 11 of those miles

I would like something fairly reliable as its for commuting.
wont be looking to purchase until June but want to know what I want when the time comes

what are your suggestions??????

Was looking at more sensible but since talking to the other half we decided its best she have a sensible car.

So I want something fun.

350z , TT , RX8 (pick one up cheap and run it until it needs a rebuild) , something along those lines

Mx-5? would it thrill me enough? what ages to go for?

I will still be commuting in the car, but I am used to a hard ride *ooer*

My car is only getting 2k PX so looking to finance the rest upto a max of 6k still

running costs not really a problem now as i will use the other car for long journeys.

RX-8 is screaming Buy at me, pick one up cheap as chips and then rebuild when the time comes

Focus ST plenty of boot space but still fun to drive and quick!
Mk4 Mondeo Titanium X with the same 2.5T engine in but massive boot and nice interior.
Octavia VRS
Civic Type R
Volvo S40 T5

Was gonna suggest Octavia vRs myself, but the no German stuff kinda makes that suggestion a waste.

Mondeo would be the next on my list. But they are a bit big. Not a fan of the Focus personally, but I guess an ST could be had at this budget.

Jap motors as others have suggested. Not my thing, so never had any interest in them.

I've not driven all the above but own the Mondeo. I would suggest the Titanium X Sport not just the Tit or Tit X as you don't get the Sport body kit or the exhaust - the Tit & Tit X are downpipes at the rear (from what I've seen anyway). They're a great drive and would advise a remap as you get a dead spot at 1500rpm - stage 1 will give you 260 from 220.

Honda Civic Type R?

You can get a 8th gen one just, or a nice 7th gen one easily for £6k.

edited to correct the generations which I got wrong!

I'm going to seem like a numpty but knowing nothing about Civics / Type Rs and a browse on Google I can only seem to find 4 generations of Type R?

From the wiki:
1st generation (EK9 chassis) (1997-2001)
2nd generation (EP3 chassis) (2001-2005)
3rd generation (FD2/FN2 chassis) (2006-2011)
4th generation (FK2 chassis) (2014-present)

Will probably be upgrading to a Type R myself in a few years, so if anyone could clarify for me that'd be ace

Seems a bit strange to rule out two of the biggest manufacturers in the world, who make up a high proportion of reliable, good looking cars, that are sporty, comfortable and quick?

Not sure about the rationale behind no german stuff - I get not liking VWs (The bore me to tears) and I guess the image of BMWs could put people off... Octavia VRS would be a very good shout though

Volvo?

I find VW and BMW ugly. just personal taste I drove a 3 series and it was lovely but i just don't like them

IS200? ~£2k for a decent one, bomb proof and have good dynamics. If you can get an import then certain models meet the 8sec time, failing that with a supercharger then can see in excess of 200bhp easily and more with pulley mods. There are also "off-the-shelf" turbos for them that are pretty reasonable.
