need new car fed up of this one

Completely with you on the VW / BMW thing. Not my thing either, unless it's the new Golf R, now that is a smart car.

I'd say the Focus / Mondeo ST.

golf R. R32 , M4 , M5 I like but out of budget and for that money there is others I would prefer

Focus ST and Civic seem to be my top contenders just finding one :)

looking at S40/C30 but seems near impossible to find one in the right colour/trim level

Make sure you drove the civic over various surfaces first.

It handles very well (despite people moaning about the beam rear), probably better than anything else mentioned - but the trade off is absolutely rock solid suspension and some potential rattles/squeaks as a result

The MK7 Fiesta ST is the same and why I keep considering selling it. On a smooth road it's amazing, but here in the UK the harshness can just be to much sometimes :(

Anyway OP, have you considered a scoobie? :)

I have always loved scoobies the noise the looks everything about them, but not being a mechanical minded person I get put off buying one as worry I would buy a lemon from owners using and abusing them.

If someone could say BUY THIS SCOOBIE its good one, I would 80% head down that route

already owned one before. I have always had hard suspension that some people would hate. but I seem to prefer a hard ride (ooerrr)

boaty rides make me feel sick

MK4 R32 should be in budget.

all with silly miles under the belt though sadly

Think I will keep my eye out on the forums for one try get good example.
Go and test drive the Focus ST aswell to compare to the Type R. The ST has a turbo which is better in built up stop start traffic with having more low down power and a single remap would take it to 265bhp

I will do, Think it might suit me better for commuting to work, having the torque on the dual carriage way.

Good choice, you wont be dissapointed! ;)

I had one a few years back and loved it so already know I will enjoy it.

Gen 7 Celica T-Sport/190 Its like the tardis with the seats down and ticks all the rest of the boxes.

hoping to venture out this weekend and look at some Focus St's. a lot of them dont state cambelt change and I am guessing the dealers won't know. I would like to purchase and get the cambelt done straight away for piece of mind

whats the costs of cambelt changes?

The Focus ST is cambelt, waterpump and aux belt all done at the same time as it can be bought as a kit together. Needs doing at 10yrs or 100k but I done mine when I bought it at 70k as its approaching 10yrs old.
Cost me £380 and I had other quotes of £400 and £420 all genuine parts. Also if driving one Make sure the turbo gauge only boosts to just over half! If it goes into the Red it's either the boost solenoid is knackered "only a £80 job" or it's been remapped.

Still looking around, decided to up my budget and finance a better car

I have been looking at golfs they have grown on me,

Have always liked the sirocco and they seem to be in my budget now but unsure on how reliable they are the, 2.0 TSI engines ect not knowing much about them

looking at around 9k complete Total but 7k would be perfect

civic type R and focus ST are still on my list but struggling to find a good example of what I want. most the Type R's I have looked at look like they have been shot blasted they have that many chips

and the focus STs just look like they have been treated badly

also looking at Mazda 3 MPS but seem overpriced or complete sheds

keep having a cheeky look at fiesta ST wondering if its worth spending the extra money

whilst I am at it... What are peoples thoughts on the astra VXR, I had a diesel astra many years ago and apart from the parts being made of chocolate I actually quite liked it. are the VXR's stuck together better?

Confused why you say no bmw's in here and now you're in the bmw thread talking about which model to go for?

Because this is an older thread and I have opened my mind to the idea hence asking question in there about what model etc is best.

also notice I say no VW but have decided I should at least look/drive some before writing them off completely.

so confusion sorted

I have now edited my first post to save any future confusion
