need nice and quiet case

Cheers. I bought the Laing :)

Just one thing I was thinking : my mate is handy cutting blowholes and was wondering if it would be worth putting one in the top of the Akasa (maybe with a slow turning 800rpm fan) to take away some of the heat out of the case so the watercooler wouldn't have to do all the work. Not sure if it would do any good as on the Mirage there is a very long psu cage, so the blowhole would have to be fairly far forward not smack in the middle so not sure how effective it would be at removing heat. Certianly would add noise. PSU does not help at all with cooling really as it does not have a downwards facing 120mm fan.

Watercooling on the way :)

Could I get some opinions on the question below.

Basically - the normal cooling for the Mirage case is one intake and one outtake, and additional sidepanel just to cool the hot spot on the gpu's. I have my case setup like that.

Unfortunately because my psu has no 120mm bottom fan (just a forward facing fan) it does not help with the cooling. So the rear fan has to handle removing all the heat. I have actually noticed temps going up a few degrees because of this. (had a seasonic with 120mm fan up until recently)

I was thinking therefore of doing a blowhole mod on the top case panel. But due to the length of the psu cage - the blowhole/fan would not be positioned directly over the cpu area or video card area. It would be positioned on the outside edge of the motherboard, nearer to the 5.25" bays in fact. And the top panel is actually about 4" from the topedge of the mobo tray. Just wondering how effective it would be in cooling. If at all.

To give you an idea :

Here is the topspace. Ignore the cables between the psu housing and the dvdrw. My setup has proper cable management and this is completely unblocked.

And this. Ignore the drive bay hanging off the psu area. Mine is removed.

Just wondering if a blowhole would be effective at all considering it is so far away from the mobo.

I ordered the standard Alphacool Cool Answer III to find that it won't fit in my Akasa 62 Eclipse. grrrr. that panel that has all expansion slots clusures obstructs it from fitting properly in place of the back system fan...very dissapointed :( Has anyone tried this watercooling system in their Akasas ?

Yes. It fitted in mine. Have you tried turning the radiator round on the supports? What way up did you mount it? Remember that you are probably fitting it with the case on it's side, so the pump will be on it's side when you fit it. That means the 'lump' in the radiator will be nearest the wheels in the case or the expansion slots in the motherboard, but it doesn't have to be. I just hope to **** they haven't changed the radiator.

fitting it exatly like on this picture, the two hoses go in the bottom of the radiator. Thats the way it should be i would imagine, otherwise the waterflow in the radiator will be buggered. no ? so you're saying i can turn it around the way i want? i was trying to fit it so the lumps of the radiator face the bottom of the case (in it's normal vertical position)

Of course you can rotate the radiator. Why would waterflow be buggered? The pump is pushing the water round the loop, not gravity. I wouldn't mount it upside down though. Anyway - if it doesn't look like it will fit then send it back without messing with it. That way you are completely covered by the DSR.

I was even thinking of detaching the pump and fitting the radiator and fan on the outside of the case and leaving the pump inside but that needed a bit of work also so i decided to leave it:)
gonna try to fit it today , i'll turn the radiator 90 degrees.
thanks for all your help, i'll let you know about the outcome :)

P.S. How did you fit your radiator then? If you have the same case and the same cool answer III then you must've had the same problem

I built 6 of these systems up for customers. 5 had the straight CoolAnswer III and one had the Laing Special as I couldn't get any more CoolAnswer III's!

Mine went on without any issues at all. I'm a bit concerned no wthat they may have changed the radiator as mine was flush at the sides and had a big lump on the top and a small lump on the bottom. The Laing Special definitely has a different radiator to the stock ones I had. The other thing is that none of mine had the electrical circuitry exposed like the one in your photograph. I didn't get mine from the source of your photograph. That place quite often has older stuff as I don't think their stock moves very quickly.

i was a bit concerned when i received it, the radiator mesh was slightly damaged (nothing serious), there was a bit of rust on the radiator and the frame, and some white deposits (like white flakes) within the system. It didn't look like something you would pay a hundred quid for  . May be i really should return it and get it elsewhere...
the circuitry on mine just hangs of it on a long wire, it's a little PCI card

Mate..sorry to hear you had trouble. Hoping mine will be ok. Without mentioning names - did you order it from the manufacturer in Germany or UK etailor.

Any chance you could take some pics for us. That way we can see if they have changed the radiator design. Thanks.

I see. Thanks.

If you could get some pics of the radiator it would help.
Or is it the same in the pic as WJA96 described.

thanks

Akasa Mirage

I can still cancel my order though.

So the problem is there is no enough space between the bottom of the 120mm fan and the very first pci slot. You are using an Akasa Eclipse/Mirage too right ?

What about rotating the fan/radiator ?

correct. i have Eclipse 62
what WJA96 was saying is that it might be an old model or something...he said he built a few already with the same case/water cooling kit...

Yeah...it sounded you only needed 20mm clearance which is nothing.
So the radiator box on your one obviously needs more space then that.

You would think there wold be enough room though looking at this pic.

Don't want to sound selfish...but I am not sure what to do now...cancel order or take chance and then have to deal with rma possibly.

This is how much space Alphacool reckon you need - but only on this side of the case.

The German text says "Offenne Gehaeuseseite" or open case side. So I would say that if you cannot fit it into your case you'd have a very decent case for returning it.

I have to say it doesn't sound right, in all honesty.
