Need serious help, I'm in trouble.....

8K? How many hours are you doing? And how much were you getting on full time?

I'm starting my first full time job at £16k a year :/ But then again normally when you work in catering being a general member of staff/supervisor is really **** pay anyway.

You're on a terrible wage... but that can also be a good thing. It means you have so much opportunity to improve it. Taking risks is hard for everyone but someone on a big wage has a lot to lose. In your case, while I'm not suggesting that finding alternative work is easy, many jobs pay far better even with little or no experience and you have little to lose by trying to improve it. The world is your oyster!

I'd suggest that your job may be holding you back and keeping you in a circle of depression due to your living conditions (not enough money to live anywhere better, that then makes you feel demotivated, and you just stay at your job thinking you can't improve it). My sister-in-law is in a similar position despite leaving education with a good degree. Her confidence was hit for some reason, then she stayed in a low paid job for 20 years and still can't afford to move out of her elderly mothers. It's a vicious circle that she's simply not able, or willing, to get herself out of.

You CAN change this. Make getting a better paid job a high priority and just keep working at it. Once you get that, then find a better place to live. Then you will have managed to improve your work and home life and it will give you a massive boost in confidence. The first step is deciding you WILL change it :)

I know it's harder to do in practice than in words but you CAN do it if you put your mind to it.

My brother left school with almost nothing to his name and failing nealy all hos O levels. He was blighted through his schooling with colour blindness and undiagnosed dyslexia. This was back in the day when schools didn't really go out of their way to find out why someone was not achieving. Through successive jobs he's worked his way up to running a power station. While he's just found out he will be made redundant shortly (with a very good payout) he's pretty much about to walk into a very well paid offshore job because of his experience.

...and it all started for him with a little determination to get himself out of a dead end job in a local newsagents.

You can do it with a little determination and focus.

How do you even get out of bed for 8k! That must make you feel pretty crap, I feel for you.

Hope you get something better, sounds like a bad situation you find yourself in.

I've tried to sway him from having certain tenants in the past, but he has said there comes a point where he has to take who he can get, the thing is when your living in cheap shared accommodation with only 2 weeks deposit needed it attracts all sorts, in a building with 7 rooms your always going to get someone in there that is problematic, living in places like this you are subjected to all sorts, if it's not a druggie then it's single mum with screaming babies etc, it's just not a healthy environment to live in which is way I'm going to do all I can to change that now.

Stop thinking of your landlord and think about yourself. Personally, it is to late to make demands to your landlord after so many years; nothing is going to change by reading your comments.

Your landlord is taking advantage of you from a business perspective by holding onto you; and giving you crap tennants in return that are generally a nuisance.

atm about 8k :o

WOW! Find another job right now.

Doing what exactly?, 20k is a lot of money, that can't be for a basic job?

It isn't 20k (perhaps in London) but still, it isn't far off. I would have a guess around 15k.

Do you realise that you're probably eligable for tax credits? Do you also have reduced council tax (25% off for single people). There may be other entitlements available, perhaps seek free professional help from CAB.

No adult should have to put up with you're situation.

Wow honestly quit that job right now and maybe move closer to a city, I'm sure you could easily find a job willing to pay you at least double of what your on now.... What exactly is it you do for a living?

1. OP has said what he does for a living.
2. Suddenly quitting a job isn't a good idea.
3. Moving requires money
4. Double what he is on yes, in full-time. OP is part-time atm (not by his own choice).

I agree with you're sentiments though, but it isn't as simple as you're comment suggests.

Ah ok I didn't bother reading through all the pages.

A supermarket would pay you closer to 20K

Wat?

No.

Full time basic staff is about 10k a year.

Supervisor is maybe 1K more.

Junior manager starts on about 18K and it goes up from there depending on what department you're managing, the size of the store. For example a store manager of a convenience level store might be paid as much as a department (e.g. bakery) manager of a supermarket.

The closet large city would be Bristol, that would be a good start, as there's loads and loads and loads of shops/restaurants you can a decent job in.

That's the kind of attitude that's holding him back, don't be an enabler

Be realistic, would you just quit you're job on the spot - resulting in no income?
Then move to a bigger area with all your belongings - which the OP cannot afford, nevermind the fact that he would have just quit his only current source of income.

That's only going to cause more problems.

The only thing OP can do right now is to find a full time job.

Thanks for the continued advice, cheers banzai, I would respond to some more points in detail but I'm working and this phone is so slow, think I'll have a look in the job centre on Monday and see whats on offer.

Most of the jobs the job centre have on their databases can be found on the directgov website if you want to check on there in the mean time.

Don't listen to the people that are saying for you to confront him, you can't just hit him, unfortunately in this country, people can wind you up until your brain explodes but if you hit them first, you're the one in jail.

What kind of job do you do ? Do you work for a large corporation with possibility to move somewhere? For example if you worked for like a delivery company, retail or even a restaurant chain then you could get a job any where in the country no?

Tool up and do the world a favour in the name of self defence.

No more problems and no one in that house will mess with you again.
