Netgear D7000 VDSL modem/router

Yep, Kitz is also pdes.

The modem dips to zero every night and suffers "blips" during the day. You can see this on my mydslwebstats. The good thisn about this modem is that despite the low SNRs, it hasn't droped the connection once. I am wary of rebooting though as I wil almost certainly lose my line speed. Currently I am synced at 9.4m but on the last few reboots, it has dropped each time to around 7m. Those extra 2.4m are critical to me.

I have noticed that there is a direct correlation between the rise in FECs and the "blips" in my SNR but I expect those more knowledgeable than me would say "of course they do"!

I recently retired my Asus 86u in favour of the D7000 to try to get the chipsets matching and this is where I got the extra speed but althought he speed was much lower with the Asus, I was able to tweak the SNR settings and I managed to even things out greatly by adding 2db. It would be awesome if the Netgear folks could add some form of adlustment.

Just let me know if I can help.

I actually found you after i posted, ill semd you a PM there hopefully soonish. Thanks for the explanation, I'm awaiting an email back from said people and hopefully they can point you in the right direction.

Well, I reset the router at around 16:00 - during the day when I wouldn't normally expect a regular drop in SNR. Upon re-start, it was back to 5.9 db and with 0.5mb increase in speed. I had high hopes for stability with this router. Maybe Netgear will come up with something.

Hi mate,

Can you check your PM's on Kitz. I've sent you the email address of the support manager who is wanting to discuss the issue with you.

Even if netgear can't resolve it and it is down to broadcom, hopefully more of these issues allow them to see what the problem is and not fob people off with rebooting it.

Also very happy with the D7000 and I've tried a few different ones.
The modem is solid, Can get full stats by a quick 5 minute jiggery pokery. WiFi is probably the best I have experienced so far on any device.

Not meaning to sound daft but are you using the same file to update it to 1.0.0.18 i.e. have you re-downloaded the firmware from the website and tried again just to make sure the files isn't corrupt.

No, defiantly the correct file, the web gui shows the correct firmware number after its updated, but sure enough after a few hours of use it locks up completely.

Also tried it at least 5 times now, and it happens each and every time.

Put the old firmware on any again and it's all fine.

What I meant was, Have you deleted that firmware off the computer you are using to flash the firmware with and downloading a fresh file from the Netgear website.

Heard any news on new firmware?

Nope, Not really. I was sent a test one as I found a little issue with setting a static IP. It seems to have resolved it anyway.
I'm going to suggest a few other things to this other guy that contacted me. They did say iOS and Android support will be coming out soon though.

Yes, I have fully deleted the old firmware, re downloaded and tried again.

I have even tried downloading the firmware from Netgear's Australian site on the off chance that different firmwares were available from different regions. Again by removing the old one completely from my PC.

Is there any chance you still have the test firmware available so I can try that to see if it persists with that version also?

Ok, Was just checking. I'll have a look for the link. Can you not PM on Overclockers?

Edit: Found the dropbox links but all test firmwares have been removed. I may have it still on my PC at home but not due home for a further 3 weeks yet.

I don't get this michty... I cannot see it being Sky related as it's connecting to the same OR network, the only difference is the option 61/60 to get and address off Sky's DHCP server.

I would like to see the stats of the guys who are having issues, i.e. BCM or ECI DSLAM, SNR etc.

The only other possibility is a bad batch of either D7000's or power supplies.

Edit....

Actually that's tosh, if it's locking up it cannot be line related.

It's either an issue for sky users or a freak coincidence that all affected are on sky. Best way to find out woukd be to use a known good one on a sky connection I guess.

Hey guys perhaps you can provide me with some help or point me in the right direction. The router is disconnecting regularly but it won't reconnect to the DSL even though it has a physical connection (don't know the right way to word it but basically the orange light is on and it's showing the normal speed and SNR's). BT openreach engineers have been round and said its not a problem with the line, what do I do :-S?
Thanks!
My first port of call would be to try another modem to see if it can hold the connection. If it can, you may have a faulty unit. If not, I would say either a wiring fault or issue with BT side. Have you tried the test socket?

We tried 3 sky routers, BT openreach engineer said everything as fine and we had a better than average line, still drop out without reconnect. But then now it hasn't gone off for almost 50 hours which is the longest it's ever been. Confusing thing that it is!

Hmm if it still drops out with the sky routers then it could be a line issue. Maybe OR left your place and discovered something elsewhere. Just monitor it a bit longer. See how it goes.

Ordered the D7000. Is this a good idea given the ECI cab?

Don't really want to spend over what I'm spending on this and heard BCM chipsets are better anyway. Would my money be better off just getting a router and keeping the modem? I want low latency first and foremost.

You can only try it. Every line is different as you know so if it improves it then win win. If not, You could always return it and try a different route?

Just checked the order and the price of the modem has gone down to £139.99. I can always send back if it's poor so will try it out!

My cabinet is probably a good 200m away.

That is what I would do. At least you can say you have tried it. Just remember to update to the latest firmware and give it at least a week to make sure all is OK.

To get stats etc from it, Follow this guide.

1) Download the unlock tool from here https://github.com/LuKePicci/NetgearTelnetEnable/blob/master/binaries/windows/telnetenable.exe
2) Place file in C:\Windows\System32.
3) Login to netgear router and click advanced and look at the router information block. Take note of the MAC address in there.
4) This point I made a notepad file with the info if I ever need it again.
5) Open windows command prompt.
6) Type this without the quote marks "telnetenable.exe 192.168.0.1 {MAC ADDRESS of Router LAN Port - in step 3} {user id- default admin} {password- default password}
7) It should look like something like this - telnetenable.exe 192.168.0.1 000FB5A2BE26 admin password
8) Hit enter and you should get a message stating Payload has been sent to Netgear router. Telnet should be enabled.
9) Open DSL Stats, And go to config page. Select one of the netgear routers from the list and delete the username and password info. Hit the play button.
