Netgear D7000 VDSL modem/router

Here's some basic router stats after an a couple hours up. Will telnet tomorrow some time. Not entirely sure what i'm looking for! :p

Wzp4Xgi.png

There isn't really much info there apart from your down/up speeds along with SNR and line power. Best to get the stats from the telnet.

It's a gigabit switch connected straight to the router. Need it to wire up all my devices under the TV. Just wondering about latency on the PS4.

Already having a good experience with the D7000, wireless is lightning fast. I was surprised how large the box is, it's massive! Speeds seem to be creeping up and latency is going down. Was around 30ms last night and now down to 22ms.

I feel like I'm only scraping the surface of what this can do.

You'll maybe find that you have been put on interleaving or banded profiles due to an issue before and over the next few weeks the speeds will increase and latency will go down. My line is always improving still and has been running the best it has since going live a year ago.

Anyone experienced this issue:

Downloading a lot of large files and dslstats said no response from Netgear. I had to reboot the D7000 to get DSLstats working again.

No nothing like that at all. Only thing I get is DSLTstats hanging due to a divide by zero error or similar. I resolved it by deleting all of the files in data except the ini files. Usually does this about every three weeks.

Hopefully it is just a one off. Will try again tomorrow and see what happens.

Unless I'm mistaken, my stats look pretty poor. But maybe that will change over the coming weeks.

It looks like you are on fastpath at the moment but getting a good few error seconds. Maybe not enough to move you to interleaved.

Looks like your SNR has dipped low to keep hold of your 64Mb sync also. If you were to reboot it, You would probably sync around 60Mb.

What is your home network like? Phone extensions, Home plugs?

Yes, ECI cab and around 400m if i follow the track of the masts and road. :)

Never had any problem with my line really with regards to drop outs, not that i know of anyway. I am concerned with why next door has 10 odd meg more than me download speed though.

Here's another. Should i expect this to resync some time this week?

I thought anything below 6dB SNR is poor :(

ot poor as such, That is just what DLM stays around. It can be more or less, However like I said if you resync it will go back to 6db and a lower sync rate.

Have you tried just having the modem plugged into the test socket for a while?

My line had a re-sync and gained 4Mb on the upstream and additional SNR but that was after several months uptime.

Had to give the VDSL back to the HG612. D7000 on EWAN now.

Since Wednesday my attenuation had gone up. Had a chance today to put the hg612 back online and immediately the attenuation is back to where it was and looking at the tones something is definately amiss.

Michty if you get a chance look at the tones comaparing today at 4pm with Wednesday at 4pm you'll see what I mean.

I will probably have to send this one back, but I need to configure up something else to take its place first.

I've just had a look. Looks like it has jumped from roughly 14 up to 18db and can see it has dropped again. I assume that was from connecting the HG612.

Have you tried a reflash of the firmware to see if that helps?

No, not tried a reflash and for the moment I need to leave things working the way they are.

I'm in the process of putting together a pFsense device, which, if all goes to plan would mean seperating the Modem from the router anyway. As it is the OR modem has barely generated any FECS or ES at all and my sync has increased to over 71 again after dropping to 69.

I will try a reflash, probably when SWMBO is away in a couple of weeks. If that makes no difference then I'll talk to Netgear. It's useful if nothing else to have it in reserve if the OR modem fails.

Let us know how you get on I' still eyeing up the new Billion when ever that will be released I think it has been delayed yet again

Anyone find this helps their connection speed with Sky? Been reading as a potential upgrade and some people are saying they go from 60mb to 70mb (Fibre Pro) just by using this?

Anyone had similar experience?

It would all depend if your line was being hindered by the Sky unit. If your line is already performing at optimum speed then there will be no benefit apart from greater wifi speed/distance I guess.

What cabinet are you on? Huawei or ECI?
Depending how quickly you want a new unit, May be worth waiting to see on the new Billion device, the 8900, which is due for release in December (assuming they don't delay it again)

It doesn't look like that in that PDF. It is like this. Similar but a fair few external antennas.

I think i'll just leave it alone and wait till it loses sync...it's perfectly fine and does anything i throw at it! :)

EDIT - Is this WAN uptime anything to be worried about because i really don't want to think it is even though i'm leaning to yes...?

I've just been telnetting to see the SNR so though the Link uptime would change if there was drop outs. In my ignorance have I completely been ignoring it dropping out all the time with the WAN.

My uptime is similar to that. Nothing to be worried about.

From what I've been reading it appears to be manufacturing delays and also driver hold ups for the new broadcom wireless chip.
From my understanding, It was going to be a 1900AC device but was changed last minute to go for the new 1733M Wave 2 (MU-MIMO) which they are perfecting prior to release.

I guess we shall see what appears in the next month or so.

I've read a bit on the pfSense stuff but isn't really an option for me unfortunately.
