Netgear D7000 VDSL modem/router

I confirmed when you asked if the speed improvement I obtained with the 612 was anecdotal, I think I said purely.

The advantage I have with the 612 is its totally stable, 20+ days now without so much as a flicker and locked at a sync speed a little higher than my D7000 managed. A one of two Mbps difference I would have gladly traded for the stability and features I now have, fortunately in my case that was not required. The other advantage is that I can mess about with the router/firewall, rebooting as often as I like without the DLM getting upset, actually that's sitting at 19 days since a restart too, its all swings and roundabouts.

This is probably a silly question but should I simply be able to plug in an ethernet cable from any port on the D7000 and into any port on my switch in order to share the connections?

Hmmm, looks as though port 4 on my D7000 might be faulty! :(

I've tried plugging in the switch, my NAS and my TV and they all failed to connect to the network!?!? Is there a way to "diagnose" through the software whether there is an issue with a particular port outside of it simply not working? (although I grant you, it's pretty definitive as it stands! - I just don't want to have to return it and spend another day getting my network set up as I want it!)

Yep, looks as though port 4 on my router is faulty!

I've tried various devices plugged into port 4 including a laptop, TV, switch and my NAS and they all fail to connect to the network (despite the port 4 LED lighting up!) - when I use the port to connect the laptop, I do get the usual "identifying" message saying it's trying to connect but it fails! (but works straight away when I plug into any of the other 3 ports!)

Before I contact the retailer to get it replaced, I assume there isn't a strange setting somewhere that enables or disables specific ports is there?

Have you tried factory resetting the router first? If it still doesn't work after that I'd get it replaced.

I would have a look or possibly try a different firmware. I know a test firmware was developed to use port 4 for IPTV services so may be forced with that as a standard setup.

Thanks for the ideas guys - I tried a factory reset with no joy and so took it back and swapped the router for another.

Got home, rigged it up and thought I'd test the 4 ports before doing anything else and blow me, same problem!!!!!

Anyway, I did a bit of poking around, specifically regarding IPTV and found an option under "Advanced>Internet Setup" and under the IPTV option there is mention of LAN4 being configured as an "IPTV Port" whenever Bridge Mode is selected (it isn't!) and then I disabled the IPTV interface completely and clicked apply - it worked!!!! :)

On the whole very annoying that Netgear appear to have enabled an option that effectively removes one of the LAN ports without it being made clear why!?!? (if, when returning the router, the price hadn't dropped 10% that I got refunded I'd be even more annoyed! :D)

Can someone explain to me what I'm losing by disabling the IPTV interface? (I have Sky TV btw!)

Just purchased the d7000 from amzon to replace my talktalk hg633. I am currently getting 59mb WAN and 20-28mb WAN (unfortunately it has a high error rate). I am hoping the WAN will be better with the D7000

my current router stats

Is there anything i should be concerned about from the stats?

Is there a way of monitoring the live traffic through the D7000 and determining where the data is coming from/going to?

thanks

Hi guys, im using a d6400 and i was just curious to know on the d7000 if it reboots the router when you add a new address reservation in the lan setup field? Find it really annoying that it does on the d6400!

I've been messing around with my new D7000 this weekend and I've reserved IP addresses for pretty much every device I have - no reboots needed as far as I can see!

I know this is going to sound like a really wierd question but I have to ask! I run a CCTV system with the ports for the "normal" PC connections and the mobile connections forwarded. Until I changed the router to the D7000, both the normal and mobile ports performed correctly and I had full passworded remote access either via the LAN or DYNDNS. However, since the installation of the D7000, I have been unable to access the mobile port if the DVR system password is set. If I remove the system password then full access is resumed.

I know it's a long shot but after many frustrating hours of re-building the DVR and router, I need to elimintate the router from the investigation if I can . Does anyone have any idea whether there is someting in the D7000 that prevents a passworded connection, only on the mobile port, from passing through the router? Conversley, does anyone have a passworded mobile connection to their CCTV working through this router?

Is the reserving on yours actually working? I bought one of these at the weekend and have been trying to reserve an IP address for my sky wifi adapter but all it does is withhold the reserved IP and give the sky a new dhcp IP every time, which is dumb as it knows it is the reserved device mac because the connected clients list shows the name I gave it.

I can't say I've actually had cause to check to be honest! I'm fairly sure it is though as I've had no conflicts and access to my NAS from my NUC running Kodi is dependent upon the IP address being static and I've had no issues there!
