Neverwinter Nights 2 Official Thread

Anyone notice the cast effects seem blocky? :( the more I play it, the more I notice bugs/bad graphics :(

The cast effects seem to be square sprites lol :)

Some of the graphics remind me of games from years ago, seems to be very far behind new gen games :(. It REALLY needs Anti-Aliasing aswell.

I also notice there's no way of setting vsync :( seems to default to 60hz?

The best way to get damage in nwn1 was Arcane archer for enhance arrow, or buy a Composite Bow with Mighty on it which allows your STR mod to add to damage, it doesn't usually.
I'm not sure how it works in nwn2.

Yep, basically Archery has always been poor. If you can find some sort of bow that gives infinite magical arrows or something you may get more damage out. A composite bow lets the damage scale slightly with your strength.

The main ways of doing good damage with a bow however are a) become an arcane archer (I'd suggest this since you'll get +3 arrows once you have enough levels packed on). Or dual class with rogue, that will give you sneak attack, assuming your archer isn't getting focused on in combat (which they shouldn't since they are using a bow), you'll basically get all the attacks as ranged sneak attacks.

I seem to remember it being pretty powerful in Baldur's Gate. Hook Kivan up with the Bracers of Archery and a Longbow of Marksmanship and there was no stopping him.
He'd take out an enemy or two before the rest of your party even got close enough to attack.

Are there any double edged weapons in the game?
I haven't seen any yet, have they been removed?

I'm just looking through the nwn.ini and nwnplayer.ini finding some interesting settings.

UseHDRIfAvailable=
EnvironmentShadows=
RefreshRate=

:D

Yep, thats what I'm thinking back to - Archers in BG2 were awesome and definately worth having in the group - but as your limited to 4 in NWN2, they just seem to fill a spot that could be better utilised with another class.

BG and BG2 were based on an earlier edition of the ruleset I do believe, possibly the reason for the differences? Certainly in nwn1 archery was pretty much the same as it is in the game now. Don't know if that is a change from the real P'n'P version of the rules or what :S :(.

You can still get some decent damage out though if you are using an arcane archer or a dual classed rogue though (or pure rogue pumped with archer feats).

This game is pure class, it may look like a souped up Dungeon Siege but the story and the magic use more than makes up for it.

Agreed, not had any issues with slowdown or graphics at all, and all on max settings. AMD 4000+, 7800gtx, 2 gig ram. Loving it :)

same spec here Redman and running ok but ive just nocked the shadows down due to ppl saying can cause slow down but think i.ll nock em back up and give it a try after reading your post.

cheers. :)

Well, after reading some more threads on the official NWN2 forums, I have gotten my issues with it pretty much sorted. I kept it at 1920x1200 with everything on and high quality, but did the fix I found there that diabled VSync and changed the SLI profile. That made a HUGE difference and it runs smooth as can be now. I am still a bit disappointed in the lack of polish to release it that way where a good number of high end systems would have that type of issue, but just glad that it was an easy fix.

Still though, the story and style of the game make a little bit of tweaking effort most definitely worthwhile. I couldn't stop playing after starting and have made my way deep back into Neverwinter, doing every single available quest on the way. The banter and voice acting do get a bit better after the initial few hours and I actually found some of it to be pretty fitting. A pretty good storyline to boot. :)

I played for a couple of hours so far and im loving it, only problem is im new to it and i chose a monk. Not sure if they are any good later on but i find it hard right now.

Anyone got some advice for a monk like multiclassing or which prestige class to go?

How do you disable VSYNC?

Monk/Sorceror or Monk/Cleric was a very powerful combo in NWN 1.

Monk/Cleric both use WIS so if you pump points into that and some into DEX then it's AC is insane, and the monk gets some crazy feats and abilities, as well as some wear some uber monk robes later on that give you permanent haste etc. Try taking 3 lvls of Monk and then some of Cleric to get healing powers etc, then take it form there. :)

my virus scan picked up two virsus in the latest update patch..

i am a massive fan of old black isle, and the biggest forgotten realm bofin. lol

why i am not playing this, it runs fine, but to either play solo of this or a 40 man raid with decent voice chat no lag.
its a no brainer.

Game is bugged , ive come out of the orc caves... and hit a location using the world travel, on my way the journey was interrupted and i met a new character. Ive done the scene walked to the world map location clicked on it and nothing happens
