Neverwinter Nights 2 Official Thread

Plays fine on my system at the moment, slight slow down when there's a lot of things happening but other than that I am pretty happy with the speed (20fps+ usually) and that's adequate for an RPG for me.

AMD 4400 X2, 2GB Ram, ATi X1900 @ 1920x1200

Camera movement is a bit dodgy I agree, I've set it to the fixed overhead view and it's playable maybe just a bit limited. The interface has it's issues as said above but overall I am happy with it. Put it this way, I'd buy it again. The graphics aren't especially breathtaking but I'm really having fun with it and they're growing on me over time, I guess I'm just easier to please? lol

Shame others are having such problems performance wise, my system is nothing spectacular but it's fine so far on 1920x1200 everything max (even water).

I'm not having performance problems either, per se, but you just hit it on the head regarding the graphics to performance ratio. Your system is an excellent one, don't you think that there should be NO slowdown and a lot higher FPS considering what you are seeing displayed on the screen? I could see if it was "next generation" looking, but this is at best yesteryear graphically, yet it still punishes you with borderline bad performance for no good reason. If you start taking off features then it starts getting even uglier.

I have run Oblivion, Dark Messiah and even Gothic 3 with WAY better FPS than this, without ANY lag and that is what makes me scratch my head, since this is the hardest on my machine of the lot and doesn't even look like it was made in the same decade. Something in their code is screwy. ARGGGHH.

Again, I wouldn't have said a peep if it ran decent and would have been thrilled with even average graphics in this kind of game, if it had good performance and gameplay which matter the most in an indepth RPG. I think all areas currently need attention.

Well I can't comment on system specs for a lower machine as I don't have another. Some slow down on my machine doesn't really bother me, because I'm running 1920x1200 with everything on full and while it doesn't look as nice as Oblivion did I wouldn't say it looks 'bad'.

But each to their own, I'm enjoying it so far and hopefully a patch will be released that addresses some of the game concerns and corrects the poor performance a lot of people are having. Poor first impressions overall I suppose but hoping things will get better.

Bought this tonight on the way home from uni. Was a bit worried that my rig (9800 pro, 2800+ athlon-64, 1gig of ram) wouldn't cope. I've messed about with the settings though and I've got it running at a level that I'm happy with at 1280x960 albeit no AA and a bunch of settings low, but I'm not so bothered about all the pretties, just the gameplay (and IMO it still looks nice enough for my liking!).

Just been playing through the tutorial just to get used to the new interface (I think they said that can all be scripted, so hopefully if its bad there will be mods). And I must say I'm totally sucked in so far and its just a tutorial! 2 hours or so from character creation to where I got went by in a flash with me practically sitting in a happy daze in front of my screen :D.

My housemate is blissfully playing atm, as his copy arrived today.
Mine on the other hand hasn't come yet, so I'll have to wait to pass judgment :(

My game arrived yesturday and i love it im having no problems with it and im really enjoying this game. Im quite far but i know theres a lot more to it ive finally got to neverwinter done some missions and now im off to some forest to find something........im being vague for no spoilers :)

I love this game :) :)

For anyone who is playing on a 7900GT, I'd recommend getting the latest nvidia drivers.

Was getting frustrated myself, had to put it on low detail and reduce res to get it playable.

But installed the 93.71 drivers just now and seems to make a big difference on my system. Can play comfortably on medium settings at 1680x1050 (though I've tweaked a few of the shadow and reflection settings too), definitely a lot smoother.

Edit: Actually, make that comfortably on high settings. Well chuffed now.

Well, after a good day or so playing (in both single player and co-op multiplayer) I have to say, I love it. The graphics are fine, the gameplay is spot on for what it is (a computerised, dice driven and partially turn based RPG) and generally it's a very, very good sequal.

Really enjoying it so far :)

Agreed with the last few posts. I like what I have seen so far. Still in the opening tutorial area and it is running fine on my system with most things maxed. Have managed to keep soft shadows on and it stills run alright - for an RPG. People are right; it wouldn't do for a FPS but for an RPG the Frame rate is fine and it looks ace. Found that turning off the bloom helped.

I can't believe how people are such graphics whores in this forum. Yea I know we have spent £100's of pounds on hardware that we want to see the best from, but at the end of the day we have done it to play games. Well get the game looking as best you can and then get on and have fun.

All very well , but when a game runs like crap and looks like crap it isnt acceptable however the gameplay is there so atleast it has something :)

Especially when its on a 6600 overclocked to 3.6 gigs with 2 Gigs of very high speed ram and 7900 GTO's in SLI. Totally unacceptable. Great game though shame about the sloppy programming.

Well hopefully these problems can be patched, I read that AA is coming in a patch and some other things that didn't make it in for the retail release.

I don't know much about coding and what have you, as long as none of these problems are deep down in the code so to speak, part of the actual game structure, if they're just things that can be fairly easily changed like the UI quirks and the quirky camera then it might be worth looking into again in a few weeks or so.

The main thing seems to be the slow performance some people are having on high end machines.

I got the game this morning and I'm a little dissapointed really :(

The game seemed a bit slow at first, I ended up disabling the shadows etc and suddenly it looked better and played better, but the lighting effects aren't that brilliant :( the camera is a bit annoying at first. I got it setup now so it's sort of usable.

The graphics aren't that good really. The detail on the characters faces etc looks like it's mipmapped, hardly any detail, looks like it's just blurred

Seems ok I guess, hopefully they will release some new patches. Is anyone having trouble with the updater? I clicked on update and it downloaded a new updater, but it can't seem to download the 1.01 patch

My updater updated itself to 1.02, restarted itself and is halfway through downloading 1.01 of the actual game.

My impressions after about 4-5 hours of play...

Started a Wood Elf Ranger, in a party of 3 (inc Warrior and Rogue) and I'm enjoying it. Story seems a bit "meh" at the moment, but the games running well on my PC (once shadows are off) and I'm happy with the graphics....to be honest I spend most of my time at pretty much max camera distance so it looks great to me.

Has anyone started a Ranger and got a pet? How do you control it? Sometimes it just stands there and does nothing, other times it runs off attacking everything in sight :o Its strong though! (And the choice of a Badger as a pet made me :D - I went with the bear)

And whats the deal with resting in 3.5? Only takes 5 seconds, with no chance of being attacked? Its great for the casters, who can keep topping up their spells, but it loses the "risk" element of being attacked, seems to have really simplified things.
