NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Had to go to the docs for an appointment and while I was there Parcel Farce came and left me a note. Why couldn't they put it through the letterbox... *sobs*

If it's one of the special editions it won't fit through the letterbox, it's massive!!

Wow! Suprised how much the game slows down. Had it on max and it died so much. I've now got everything mid range and its just playable. Spec below (pasted) nothing special but should run it well.

Athlon 64 4000+ @ 2.62ghz
Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI
Galaxy Geforce 7900GT @ 550/780
G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 @ 250mhz
Sound Blaster X-FI Extreme Music
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 200GB
520w OCZ Powerstream PSU
Philips 200W6CS 20" Widescreen Monitor
Creative GigaWorks 7.1 S750

I've found that to get the best performance/quality mix, I turned off all water effects (reflection, refraction) which dropped my framerate by about 15 even with no water :o , turned off soft shadows, normal mapped terrain and point light shadows.

I still had shadow quality on high but in advanced I turned all of the shadow map sizes to their minimums. Can't tell the difference between minimum and maximum but get a huge frame boost.

It never drops below 20fps, and usually sticks at around 30 which for an rpg is perfectly playable. Playing at 1440x900.

I also set affinity to a single core, just in case. I just really wish there was AA because I hate jaggies :(

I'm really surprised how bad it looks considering the crappy performance, Oblivion played flawlessly on max settings with AA+HDR and looks a hundred times better.

I hate to say it but I agree. I can't even believe that some people are saying it is the best looking game ever and similar junk on the NWN2 forums. Are they blind, retarded or both? It is arguably barely better in motion than NWN1 and worse in some ways. The animations are horrid, the voice acting causes physical pain and the performance is lackluster. A good friend of mine uninstalled it after a few hours. I want to like it, and haven't given up on it, but am going to have to overlook a LOT of shortcomings to do so.

I love; no I adore these types of games so it hurts to say that the standard of graphics really pains me. We are going to have to play with Bioware tinted spectacles.

Been playing for a couple of hours and must say I am enjoying it.

It has taken me awhile to get used to the controls though I still prefer NWN1 but thats probably cos I am used to it.

I have no major performance issues I have everything maxed except shadows which are MED. (1280x1024).

My system is Core2Duo 6400 2.13G, 2Gb Ram, HIS X1900XT 512Mb. Considering all the the complaints about low framerates etc I am pleasantly surprised! :)

Back to the game....

I picked this up yesterday afternoon, but haven't had all that much time to play with it.

One thing I do have to say though, is that I probably shouldn't have played through the original Baldur's Gate so recently (finished it two days ago) and I'd forgotten how different it was to NWN.

Another thing, I don't like the spellcasting system in NWN2, I preferred the radial menu from NWN. What way is there other than setting things to the quickbar on the bottom?

this game is a complete jke, installed it, and laughed graphics terriable i have 7900gtx, duel core etc.... wow looks 10x better plays 100 time better, they ruined the best campaign setting cant play online cause lag sucks. teriible!

Yeah it's a great framerate booster setting it to medium but you pay a huge price visually, a price I am not prepared to pay. The environments look naked without the dynamic shadows. The only shadows you are left with are for you and other characters. Most other games that do not use dynamic shadows for the environment make use of shadow maps in the textures. I wish I was content with the graphics as I just can't seem to get past how the game looks. I had such high expectations NWN2.

That's the thing it’s a struggle to get into the gameplay due to the graphics and performance. Do not even get me started on the models and the animations.

**** is it really that bad? Online reviews seem positive in general...

i'm enjoying it so far, but there's a lot more in this i don't like than when i first played nwn1. the gfx engine is a joke and the interface is a huge step backwards and it's completely linear. but the story so far (8hours played) is more fun than the first day playing nwn1, hopefully with patches it'll get better. it's a bit like nwn v0.75 with more saturated textures and dodgy animations, still i'm having fun playing with my ring.

The SDK and most of the game was developed in C#

can't see that myself.

the SDK was written in C# but I very much doubt the game engine was written in a managed language for the .NET platform.

Have you installed the first patch for it yet?

still i'm having fun playing with my ring.

More people are seeing this now and it isn't just about being a graphics whore. Honestly after playing Dark Messiah leading into this with EVERYTHING maxed, I though my eyes were going to bleed. I still have NWN1 and all expansions loaded, and played a bit there to compare. The animations in part 1 are better, with more frames.

Now I wasn't expecting an Oblivion look (does anybody remember Obsidian saying this engine was a top graphics contender a while ago? ) but I was expecting something pleasant. The combination of jaggies and jerky animation is just bad. Add the quirks with the camera etc., and it is not the greatest start. Plus the reused the voices and some sounds and soundtrack from NWN1, which isn't a negative, but WTH were they doing otherwise? Shouldn't that time saved been spent optimizing these annoyances or hiring at least one beta tester?

Sorry to sound aggravated, but I had real high hopes for the game, and now because I don't want to ruin my opinion of the series will probably wait for a while to get some decent patches out to address at least what they can. If they get some of the gameplay issues worked out, I will overlook the fact that in a lot of ways Icewind Dale II looked as well.
