Neverwinter Nights 2 Official Thread

I really don't see how anyone can say this games looks bad. Maybe I have low standards but the way I see it, a game doesn't have to be the next Oblivion or Crysis to look good. :/ The faces do have that Everquest 2 look to them but apart from that I think it looks fine and certainly not awful.

I'm with you.
Fair enough Oblivion looks stunning with 2x 8800'as running in SLI, but seriously, this game looks just fine to me, and plays a treat, bugs n all.

it gets better as you get into it....dont let the start put you off....
the graphics are alright....6 out of 10 is about accurate..nothing special but this type of game isnt about graphics

[Minor ACT 1 spoiler]

So I've just cleared the eyegouger clan/NW emissary quest, and decied to replace Neeshka with Captain Goodguy, and found im to be much more use in a 'kill everything in sight' kinda way.

Stoneskin plus the extra healing he brings means the traps that I set off are a minor annoyance only, and Khelgar has a nice ring now that can cast knock, so lock picking isn't all that important.

Would the coming chapters see me lose out if I take him over Neeshka?

At the moment we are a force to be reckoned with.

Druid (me): Barkskin + mage armour, sit at back casting offensively and guarding Qara from melee
Porkchop (my boar): Awaken + barkskin + mage armour
Paladin: Barkskin + mage armour + 2 handed clobbering hammer
Khelgar: Barksin + mage armour + Bone Phoenix fire mace jobby
Qara: Stoneskin + mage armour, offensive spells and heavy crossbow

Pally boy just seems to be far more use with his clobbering, aura, and limited spells.

Woo Hoo, finally made it here after two months awaiting activation and my first post is about my favourite game franchise.

Nice to see that it's getting so many good reviews from you guys and the graphics look superb. Sadly, it looks like my little Half-Elf Fighter Mage is going to have to wait till I upgrade my aging rig before she can have some fun.

Gotta love D&D.

;)

Do you have any virtual drive software installed? If so try disabling it (it started causing problems with the latest patch)

Also which executable are you using, nwn2.exe, nwn2main.exe or the athlon xp one, try them all :)

Will report back as soon as I get home, cheers dude. :)

Odd... it's working now, must have been a ghost in the machine. Can't believe it's laggng at 20fps at max details @ 1650*1080 on my rig, guess it'll need some serious tweaking. I have two bottles of wine in my possesion and two days off work... time to do some adventuring. :D

I LOVE this game :D

It's the love child of NWN and Knights of the Old Republic, and it's brill. Runs pretty well for me too, once I've turned off one or two of the graphics options.

It's a real time gobbler mind you. Must remember to acknowledge wife once a day at least :)

Turn off water reflections and you'll get most of that back. If you have an Nvidia card, also get the tweaker package and force Vsync off as this helps a lot :)

Well, having bashed it at the start.....I've now played it for a few hours (with the missus in co-op) and found there is a fairly solid RPG hiding in there after all :) Got the graphics looking OK and the performance running quite smooth - turning water reflection off seemed to double my fps  Some things I don't like tho:

I hate it that when (in co-op) one person is talking to a character the other person can't do a single darn thing. Nothing. Can't run around, look in their inventory, map....anything. Just have to sit there and read all the waffle, and my god is there waffle. I like RPG's where the dialog appears over the characters head and you can read it while running around doing other stuff.

The "dramatic" fighting music carries on....and on...after the fight is over, often cutting into dialog. Silly.

Some of the voice acting is dull at best, sometimes just corny.

Lack of player freedom. Horrid world map teleports and the inability to roam anywhere you want makes it feel very old-tech.

The camera still sucks, although I think I've tweaked it to the point where it's bearable.

Still, enjoyable RPG romp all the same. If only they could combine the D&D gameplay of NWN with the presentation and player freedom of Oblivion :(

I did max all texture resolutions too so ill maybe back off those a little too, won't make too much difference to the visuals I imagine.

One thing that really REALLY sucks is how they have crippled the character bioography system by making it a max of something lke 150 words. I ALWAYS write a short story for my single-player and multi-player characters, and in multiplayer I link them all together in those stories, people always stop to read them on my usual server and usually write their own too. I started wrting Borons, got to the third paragraph, and suddenly found i'd reached the limit. I'm not happy about that. :(

Got the game seems quite good so far but only really played about 30 minutes after the character creation. What camera style are people using?

I use free cam at 90º as zoomed out as I can, ala Baldur's Gate :[]

Does anyone know how I can force NWN2 to use a bigger font for in-game text? The "UseLargeFont" attribute in nwn.ini makes no difference. As such I'm stuck playing in 1024x768 because if I go to 1280x960 the text is a little too hard to read. I can read it, but have to concentrate harder on it, taking my attention off the game.

I can't afford a new monitor, so a 19" CRT is all I've got for some time.

Makes me wonder why they can't just make text etc scale to be the same size on screen regardless of the resolution...

Or maybe there's a way to make it play at 1152x864?

Odd, text is perfectly readable to me at 1280x1024 on a 19" CRT, maybe your eyesight is getting poor

Fume ordered mine from CD-WOW 15 days ago and they stil having "stock problems" mind you it was £19.99.

Looking forward to this a lot assume recently went to a E6300, 2Gb, 7600GT to a Dell 20"Widescreen TFT and hoping to enjoy NWN2 on it. And have found Oblivion hard to get into!!

I also am going for a first im playing a Mage of some flavour would you believe that from playing D&D at school in the late 70" through all the Balders Gate, Icewind Dale et all up to NWN I have never played a magic user.

Monks, Fighters, Rangers, Clerics and even the odd Thief but no magic man.

So when it arrives im going that path any recomendations re race / class.
