New 120Hz/"240Hz" VA monitor for gamers (Eizo Foris FG2421)

240Hz was originally designed for airport scanners. :)

Being in discussions with Eizo for weeks, we are a direct account as I used to sell their screens many years ago.

I shall sort it and OcUK will be king, leave it to me and give me a couple of weeks. :)

Nice one :) but two weeks  I have a new monitor itch that needs scratching.

Any chance of pre ordering?

Hi Guys, got my fg2421 today and I disassembled it.

Now you can see the panel is made from SHARP. According to the database, this panel is a true 10-bit panel but the color depth is limited by EIZO IMO, because I guess EIZO also has its high end product lines which use this panel with better driver will surely charge more money.

Hope this helps.

Viewing angles are something that should not bother gamers. They sit right in front of the panel.

But what does concern me is the input lag. What is the input lag on this monitor please? With or without black frames being added makes a difference?

Also if it is 10ms is that even noticeable?

Lastly the review above stated "The FG2421 uses a VA panel, and VA panels typically display less accurate colours than other types of panel technology, but much deeper blacks. "

The colours are not as good as IPS? I thought the colours were meant to be great on these types of monitors. As good as IPS but much better than TN. Now I'm confused.

Colours on a VA panel are not as good as IPS but better than TN, the blacks on the other hand are far superior which will give the image more impact.

Sure the same applies to moving images as it does photo's, one of the first thing you do when editing a photo on photoshop is to sort its levels out namely the blacks, this gives the image more depth, impact etc.
Also when buying a regular TV one of the things to look out for is its black levels, I bought my panasonic plasma based on this and its amazing.

For me this monitor will be a blessing, still not perfect but better imo than whats available. Have owned a Benq 2420T and movement was very fluid, excellent for the games i play BUT the picture looks washed out and at times too bright, basically for me very poor.
Currently i'm using a Viewsonic VP2770 2560x1440 and the image is sensational, i cannot fault it, well i can when i join the Battlefield, nearly makes me dizzy when panning around and this is meant to be one of the faster IPS panels.

As Battlefield is really the only game i play motion is very important too me, which is why my viewsonic is up far sale and i was gonna get another Benq but wasn't looking forward to the quality coming from this but then this thread popped up and informed me of the EIZO, i for one is extremely excited by this monitor and cant wait to get my hands on one.

Thanks for the reply. Shame the colours are not as good as IPS but there ya go!
At least the colours will be better than my current TN (Samsung SA750D)

I also bought a Panasonic Plasma for the very same reason. Great black levels.

Strange, I also bought a BenQ and thought the colours looked terribly washed out. Got rid of it within a week.

It depends what you mean by 'good'. IPS models show colours with high levels of consistency and can provide the most accurate output (especially once calibrated). VA models provide more consistent colours than TN models and they give a slightly different look to the image compared to other panels due to the contrast. If the VA model combines good colour gamut coverage (very close to if not slightly exceeding sRGB), strong static contrast, a good screen surface and 2.2+ gamma then they can offer really good vibrancy and pop with well-represented colours. I feel this is the sort of experience you'll get from the Eizo. Can't wait to review it myself. :)

looking forward to the review, when are you getting your sample???

Good question. :p I haven't worked with EIZO before so don't have any pre-existing contacts. I'm trying to negotiate a sample with them and if that isn't possible then I'll have to look at alternatives such as retail channels. I am absolutely determined to review this model. ;)

This monitor is looking good from what I have read so far. Its like near IPS colour with 120hz of a TN monitor from what I can understand which i quite like. Cant wait for more reviews to come. Hopefully the price will be good.

56.4cm is the width of the screen.
Screen sizes are measured diagonally.

See I did not know that :o cheers!

learning all the simple facts now that I'm looking into a new Monitor. This would be perfect for me, better quality to enjoy my pictures etc and good for games. But its expensive if its £450 just now. I’m sure it will fall in price in time or other manufactures bring in the same tech.

Maybe gibbo can give us a good pre-order price ;)

it's arrived with me now for testing. Feel free to ask questions and I'll try and answer if i can. Obviously need some time to run tests

very interested to see what you think badass :) I think the viewing angles are good but not superb...much better than my last monitor ...I don't know a lot about monitors like you do :)
I love how milkdrop looks now lo
At the moment I'm running User1 mode with just the "black level" down to 30
The fps modes I find a bit bright washed out I think u call it but im gonna tweak some more.
Be interested to know what settings you like once you've had a play
Have fun :)
