New Alienware Q3 2020

Placed the order, delivery estimated for 12th December. 6600 PLN, 1320 pounds, that's with 10% student discount. Generally very good price for such screen right after release. The equivalent to initial $1899 MSRP is 8900, this is what Dell lists before discounts here. LG 38GL950G was like 8999 when it released, and Acer X38P still is 9999, so it makes sense. LG 38WN95C preorder that I had at Proshop was 8000.

Hopefully the screen is good, the fan is quiet and there is no coil whine from internal power supply. Picture should be within reasonable range from my 38UC99, though it will probably take some tinkering since it won't be as well calibrated and doesn't have sRGB modes. Will see. Will see if it even arrives when it is supposed to, no believing any delivery dates anymore :p

The design of a unit itself is a bit of a pain because I've made a custom desk and the wall behind the monitor is curved at the exact same 2300R curve that this panel has, for even spread of ambilight that I have, but AW3821DW has these stupid vents on top that change the curve on the back. 38WN95C would be perfect for that, with the back matching the curve and also o angled up. But that is a fairly minor problem, the display needs to be good, especially VRR quality, I can adjust the desk to it if I really have to.

From TFT Central: Even if they did feature a Native G-sync module it is also still likely that they could still support AMD systems via the latest NVIDIA firmware, but with the module being used this could bring about benefits in terms of VRR performance and features like variable overdrive and super low input lag." https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/d...more-specs-information-and-g-sync-discussion/

I have/had a preorder for the 38WN95C, which I intended to use with my MBP 16 inch, and AMD eGPU (+ Windows 10 bootcamp). But for various reasons (38WN stock, LG's supposedly bad quality control, and the lower price tag of 1040 with Dell Advantage), I placed an order for the AW3821DW today.

I have no idea how well the AW3821DW will work with my MBP 16 inch and AMD eGPU setup, so if anyone has any more information regarding the (unofficial?) and presumed FreeSync support I would be interested to know as well!

I was thinking along similar lines having shortlisted the LG but the Alienware is more akin to compete with the LG 38GL950G as I don't think it has USB-C. I thought they may have done a Dell equivalent but no sign of a 38" other than U3818DW which is only 60Hz so it seems the LG panel used in the 38WN95C hasn't made it's way into the Dell line up, not sure if it is due to either.

From my understanding the 38WN95C, 38GN950, and AW3821DW all use the exact same panel from LG (the 38GL950G uses a slightly older version of these panels, with HDR 400 instead of 600). The differences seems to be TB3, Sphere Lighting, and G-Sync module, respectively. Plus some differences in refresh rate, and settings, and other various things like Picture-in-picture support etc. Not to mention the 1 vs 3 year warranty difference (LG/Dell)

Yeah such a shame they all seem to follow each other in not including USB-C on the gaming orientated models, Samsung made the same choice with the G9.

AW3821DW just appeared in Poland. The price is 7300 PLN which is generally in line with 38GN950 and 38WN95C. My cancelled order in Proshop was even more than that. This is equal to 1460 pounds though. What exact codes did you use to get price as low as you did? Got it down to 1320 with student discount and I think that's it, no other codes I could find work. This is exactly the amount I wanted to pay so guess nevermind, I will just place an order

Some of the recent G-sync modules have normal VRR support as well, like LG 38GL950G. So you can use VRR with other sources than NVIDIA GPU. Don't know how well it works and if it is just a fallback to regular flickery VRR or not, but the option is apparently there.

Here's hoping :)

Has anybody else got beyond confirmation the order was received yet ? i got the order received e-mail at 11:30 but nothing since.

Same boat here, order doesn't show on my account either, might be normal for chat/phone orders but still making me nervous! Especially since the store page appears to be working now, if my order goes wonk and they're then sold out I won't be a happy bunny.

I'm assuming order status will be updated once working day starts properly

Same for me, can't even use the 'missing order' section on my dell account to add it as the order received email doesn't have an order number (tried both booking and quote reference and neither worked).
Hopefully the order confirmation email and shipping updates arrives this morning. It's a shame that this could all of been avoided if the page worked properly yesterday.

For anyone that did live chat. Is there a way to get the dell rewards added? I assumed when he took forever to do the order and said he was creating a profile etc this would have been done but registered today and it didn’t say I had an existing account or anything & password reset didn’t work

I did ask this on my chat and this is from the transcript:

Samuel: "I already have a dell account, will I still be able to recieve Dell Rewards there for this order>"
11/29/2020 07:57:04AM Agent: "let me check"
11/29/2020 07:59:46AM Agent: "just received email"
11/29/2020 07:59:56AM Agent: "i will raise a request"
11/29/2020 08:00:14AM Agent: "reward points are only for online purchase"

I'm still going to give chat a try to see if I can get them added once item is recieved though as it's £30 worth for the AW2721D.

Yeah. For me that was online: their site wasn’t working, I ordered online and paid online, so will def argue the case!

Did you talked through chat or called them about some discounts? Wonder what is the best price they offer for 2721D.

Chat, £626. If you have an account you will get the rewards points double.

This is the same quote i was given a while ago - believe the REAL price is £699 so ignore the big discount that appears to be on the site from over £800 ;)

so the site now allows you to view the product and add to basket showing as in stock and shipping next day

my order status looks promising so fingers crossed it ships out in time

So current price without any additional discounts applied is £696. With the various discounts available online or through work you can get it down to £626, however someone in the thread was able to get it down further (£556.80) by applying student discount on the £696 price - they wouldn't let me do it on the £626 price, tried via chat and phone.

Just ordered the 2721D online this morning, total price £556.80 with Dell discount through work :)

Order confirmed straight away, estimated to arrive by 02/12/2020
