New Alienware Q3 2020

Has anyone experienced issues with the AW2721D (or any of these newer Alienware monitors) whereby the screen will randomly go black although it does not lose power? The fix is basically power off the screen and power it back on and the image returns. I found a thread on Reddit and the Dell website about this issue and whilst it doesn't seem to impact everyone there are certainly people experiencing this issue - myself included.

I'm not sure if I can link to the dell forum page on here, but if you search for "AW2721D, black screen, image lost while using it" you will find the forum thread with a detailed description of the issue and video.

The issue is very random - maybe happened to me 3-4 times since I got the AW2721D late November. (Mainly whilst gaming - using out of box DP cable)

Thanks - I wonder if its specific to the 27 inch model. I turned gsync off a few days ago as I'm curious if that's what could be causing the issue. Unfortunately I won't know for sure until 1-2 months pass without issue.

I do have a functionality query I hope someone can help me out with

I’ve set up the quick access buttons to select between DisplayPort and HDMI1 so when I swap between laptop and desktop it switches over easily

I’d say this works with a single press 60% of the time, otherwise it brings up the input switch dialogue and I need to select the input and then it switches. Any reason why? I’ve triple checked the setup of the buttons and none of them are set to the input switch dialogue which is its own separate option, they’re both on Set input to DP: HDMI1. its minor but frustrating.

Just tried it now and switching to DP happens when I click that button but trying to switch back I get the dialogue, sometimes it works the other way round ...

On my AW 38" I only get the pop-up dialog which I have to navigate using the joystick - would love to be able to use a button to just switch.

Auto-switching would be a great addition via a firmware update if possible.!

have you set up the buttons to do quick switching? It’s under personalise, just it doesn’t seem to work perfectly for me and a lot of the time brings up the dialogue to switch rather then just switching

You sir are a genius! You have solved my problem, but now also have someone with the same problem as you ;-) After a bit of testing I only seem to get the pop-up dialog if I try to quick swap to a port that has no signal. So looks to be signal related.

Has anyone ordered a monitor from Dell Recently?

I ordered the AW3821DW yesterday afternoon, expected to ship today, with delivery tomorrow.

Is this realistic, all the early adopters seem to have had theirs come from Holland, is that still the case, or is their stock based in the UK these days?

Dell's estimates are just that, estimates, realistically it will be a few working days - i'd guess Tuesday at the earliest.

Yeah I think I originally got told next day. With brexit though not sure how customs will impact it if coming from EU, hopefully they send it from the UK

Just shipped, Popped up on the UPS app, It's shipping from Charnwood in the UK, so that's a bit of a win

makes sense I suppose as otherwise they would be giving people massive vat bills

I received mine yesterday and the back light bleed is so bad on the bottom left.

my 38 has some similar but not as bad on pure black but looks worse on photos than it does irl, but can’t see it in games like you have there

Clear as day in game, nothing like I have seen on all the TV and monitors I have owned. For reference here is the LG 27GL850 I had that I found perfectly acceptable. It looks bad in photo but it was fine in real life. This one is just bad, I can't imagine how bad it would look if I turn HDR on.

Yeah I feel that’s bad, I can’t really see it in game or in colour it’s only some corner glow if the screen is totally black

Are there any issues with the 38" model? debating between ordering one of these or waiting to see if LG do anything with the 42" OLED screens.

This is probably a better buy for PC use as I do have a few worries about burn in but then I feel the new TVs would be better as I could comfortably play a PS5 or Xbox on there as well

I really like mine. I feel like tvs are a good option for quality, but the aspect ratio isn’t great for gaming up close and more a click play option for me for my consoles.

Consoles would only be secondary for me but I just worry if I got this screen for desk area and I did pick up a console later down the line, if I played on it using the AW monitor would it stretch it and distort the image or would it just be a regular image with black borders?
