New Alienware Q3 2020

Hmm, been tempted by the Sammy G7, but the AW2721D ticks all the boxes for me and would hopefully be able to get price reduced through Perksatwork.

As far as I can tell the listed them a week or two prior at way over the price they should have been, presumably so they can ‘discount’ them for the weekend. The price should be in the region it is now, take the AW2721D - £699 quoted in TFT Central, US price $1,099. I was already quoted £625 but told subsequently it wasn’t available to UK just yet.

From what I see AW2721D will be £696.

I think a big thing with aspect ratio is what type of use you have for it.

I've seen Randomfrankp's review on youtube playing battlefield 5 and the fish eye effect on the G9 looks horrible. If you're playing first person shooters mainly, I don't see that monitor as being viable. If you're the sort that plays Flight Sims, Racing Games, Trucking Simulator, RTS games etc.. it would no doubt look amazing. But i think that ratio is just a step too far for FPS games.

Granted this is all personal though, but again it just makes blanket sweeping statements like that pointless.

Here is a pretty good forum thread about AW3821DW: https://hardforum.com/threads/aw3821dw-nov-2020-with-gsync-ultimate.2002202/page-3

Few users there already have it. It basically confirms inaudible fan, usable HDR and very low bleed/glow, which is typical for 38" IPS, this is very good panel in that regard.

One problem though is that the display does not have gamma control (typical for Alienware) and there is no sRGB mode and all picture modes are extended gamut, so SDR will be heavily oversaturated. To solve that you can either enable HDR in Windows globally (it will then take the control over displayed gamut depending on the content viewed) or tinker with OSD settings.

I have a perfect unit of 38UC99 so I will compare the two side by side once I get AW3821DW and try to match them as closely as possible. Hopefully AW is not too messed up. I am a bit concerned because I had AW3418DW for few days and it's out of the box setup was absolutely abysmal and there was nothing I could do to get it anywhere close to 34UC98 I've used at that time. But these were different panels and here panels will be the same, just set up differently.

But we can already say that factory setup on this display is not going to be good. This is something that LG does very well in last few years, you basically doesn't have to touch OSD, maybe except for old 34GK950G which also didn't have sRGB mode. Alienware on the other hand is notorious for bad factory setup and it seems that nothing has changed.

Big sadge, hoping it was coming today, now I have to fight off the urge to get the discounted Alienware AW3420dW :(

Well to help you on that they are out of stock in the UK and you know how many delivery dates have been missed recently .. there could be a long wait for the AW3420dW an you could find the new monitors are released before you even get a AW3420dW.

Nooo! I'm so jealous of people who can actually buy it right now, lol.
