New Belinea 22" is coming!!!

As a CRT junkie, can anyone explain to me what the 'problem' with it using a TN panel is?

My primary use for such a screen would be gaming and general desktop usage.

have a quick read about panel technologies here. As a summary, TN Film panels tend to be pretty responsive, and models using them are generally cheaper. However, they can suffer from limited viewing angles, especially vertically, poor black depth (comparative to other technologies like PVA/MVA), have more noisy movie playback and also a lower colour depth. Modern TN Film based screens are much better than older generation and so for an average user i'm sure they would suit your needs anyway.

Doesn't look like too much of a concern to me as I have a 32" WS TV with dvd/xvid player for viewing movies. Viewing angle is irrelevant as I'd only be using it front-on.

TN panels also seems to be the best in terms of response times so it could be an attractive choice. I had been eyeing up the Samsung 940BF due to the 2ms response time, hopefully 5ms would be OK now I'm not gaming so seriously...

Viewing angles on TN can be so bad that if you set the whole screen to one colour it can be noticeably darker at the top, even when sat perfectly still right in front of it. For instance on the LG L204WT-

And the colour of the screen can change noticeably if you go from slouching to sitting upright in your chair, which can mean you're forever adjusting the screen tilt so it's facing you.

Not all TN panels are that bad though. For instance here's the same comparison on another TN screen, the Samsung SM225BW-

Not a fair comparison as one of the screen could be more tilted than the other, for it to be a better more complete comparison you would have to have the screens side by side to ensure an even tilt :)

Good point, it's probably not a fair comparison.

Anyway, I was just pointing out to HangTime that viewing angles can still be a problem just sat at your desk on a TN screen. The picture of the LG there is very much the experience I had with a Samsung SM913B last year, the vertical viewing angles were very poor. Whatever angle the screen was at there was always a noticeable gradient on screen and moving my head up and down just an inch would alter the colour of the screen. Not all TN panels are quite that bad though.

Personally I would choose the quality panel in a 20" MVA/IPS (say the Dell or Viewsonic) rather than the extra size of a 22" TN screen. I'm quite picky though.

I would really like a 22inch screen as it is not as demanding as a 24 incher's resolution but the TN colour difference is kinda putting me off :( But for £230 ish thats a pretty damn good price!

It's easy to get used to it, but it is really shoddy when you actually stop and look.

I'm quite fussy as well and if wasn't for the size/weight I'd be getting the Samsung 1100MB 21" CRT. My gf will likely be paying half the cost as a Christmas present and she isn't overly keen* on the idea of me cluttering up the place with a hefty CRT.

In an ideal world I would like a TFT which has:

-Large screen (20"+)
-Very low response time
-Native resolution which isn't too excessive (1600x1200 would be nice)
-Good price (<£250 unless a very large screen)
-No serious defects in other areas

On a related note it seems that most modern screens in this size range seem to be widescreen models. Given the choice I'd rather have something with a more orthodox (4:3) aspect ratio.

My girlfriend's got the 19" belinea and if this 22" is anything like that then it's a steal!

Was gonna get an Akasa Eclipse to replace my P180 but i can tell you right now that i'll be saving for this! :)

Hi there

Updated the website picture and seen some high-resolution images of this today. It looks stunning, I think it could be our new best seller. Its specification is better than any other 22" at the moment and I can see it been a gamers dream with those specifications, TN panel and with such a great price. :)

If we order now, when would we get them Gibbo if you dont mind me asking? Just looking at a samsung 20" that is extremely cheap but would like it a bit bigger after i saw it in the flesh!

damn i want 2 of these ASAP. but havnt got the availible funds until i sell lots of things ! lol

can you hide some under a box for me please :)

Rb

How come it isn't on Belinea's website, I can't find it

Hi there

Because its not yet officially released. Like I say OcUK is getting an exclusive. There is 1000 units for entire of Europe and I've been given the option of taking the lot which mean we get exclusivity on this monitor. :)

Hi there

Right spoke to Belinea. We have taken all 1000 which means this panel is exclusively available ONLY from OcUK, nowhere else!

However the 1000 will not be arriving until the 1st week of November.

Currently we have pre-sold 27 units so there is plenty left and we do expect this panel to absolutely fly out as you won't find a better specification 22" panel anywhere near this price. :)
