New build ryzen 1800x vs 8700k

8700K for sure, had the 1700 since launch @ 3.9 plus 3200 CL14 ram and recently swapped to 8700@5 the single target perf increase is lovely.

Nice to see someone post who has actual experience with using both processors, instead of posts of conjecture and opinion :)
I think i'd trust benchmarks from a respected site such as Hardware Unboxed etc etc over someones opinion regardless of whether they have owned both processors. Lets be honest most people aren't exactly objective. I don't own either processor but i've been keeping up with new developments since AMD started to be competitive again and I certainly wouldn't have recommended a 8700K for a 4k gaming rig unless they absolutely have to have the highest FPS regardless of cost. Even gavinh87 who doesn't appear to be remotely pro AMD, has owned a 1700(x?) and owns an 8700k recommended the 1700.

There was some good advice given in this thread, unfortunately it was ignored.

In my experience having hands on use of the hardware is much more useful than synthetic benchmarks. Real world usage with someone who has had both systems. Obviously it can depend on what you are actually doing on the system as people have different needs and uses so mileage will vary as usual but I'd trust someone who has actual experience using both systems as a normal user. Those respected sites often have bias and maybe even more so...

Edit: I missed the post by gavinh87. Even so it shows it's down to personal opinion of everyone and every reviewer. It's down to you to make your own final choice and he went for the 8700k which will a sweet CPU for many years to come

Funny enough, I thinking of switching from a R1700 @3.9 to a 8700k. Just need some bit to sell in MM's to cover most of it and then my CH6 and 1700 will go on MM too. Reason behind this, I feel that the 8700k will be quicker and a more stable platform but I will wait for the refreshed Ryzen's first to see what they bring.

@gavinh87 You went from a 1700 to a 8700k is\was the difference, in your opinion, worth the £100 that is will cost me to switch?

^ I have been wondering about the same switch but I think it's because of e-peen reasons. But yes, should definitely wait until at least the refresh.

For me, definitely. Yes it runs hotter but so would ryzen if it could do 5ghz!
There is no replacement for straight up single core speed, at the moment it is the best no compromise gaming CPU. Older games and MMO's and the like aren't going to suffer like they do on ryzen.
For £100 I'd say yes, its worth it.

Its worth noting that my 1700 CH6 is sat on a shelf above my head, I haven't been tempted to swap back either!

Carry on shovelling cash into Intels pocket, they can carry on pulling yours and everyone elses pants down with chips riddled with security flaws and backdoors lol, i know im done with them til they sort their act out.... Not to mention the price your going to pay in the future if you dont patch your hardware to stop some chavvy little git exploiting your machine and stealing stuff lol.

Its fairly apparent now how many corners Intel has cut to achieve their place at the top, and how shady they have been since getting caught out, if your willing to carry on supporting those practices then good luck on you when they backfire and some oik steals your cash from your bank, yeah you'll probably get it back but for me thats not worth the hassle for a few extra fps heh.

Im not saying AMD are saints, but the amount of tripe coming from Intel right now puts me totally off them.

As ive said before, i play Wow thats pretty much the ONLY game i play on PC right now with the very rare odd dabble into ESO and Grim Dawn and WoW runs better on my R7 1700 @ 3.9 than it did on my i7 4770K @ 4.3ghz, so no, im not buying your "MMO's run better on Intel" nonsense as quite frankly thats just not true.

I've shown you benchmarks showing otherwise.
Ive also shown black desert online running considerably better on a 6700 than ryzen. ESO runs considerably better on intel, as does PUBG, I could go on.
In fact, you have a 1070. When I reinstall WoW again, we should both capture video to put this to bed.

When playing on a TV with vsync on 1fps difference can be a difference between perfect fluidity and stutter.
I know my [email protected] with 16GB 2133 memory can’t stay above 60fps at all times in Destiny 2 and that breaks the experience for me.
That’s why I would go with the fastest CPU possible.

8600k performs better than all the 6 core ryzens, is £240 cheaper than the 1800x and and also outperforms the 1800x in all single core and quad core benchmarks by quite some way :)

Wow, did not realise that by a simple ask of opinion would break out World War 3.

Thanks for all of your valued input though guys.

I think you need an update on how much the 1800x is costing now.

I have seen 1800x go for like £259-300 price keeps changing on a website i cannot list due to competitor links, 8600k goes for like £240.

Yea a few days ago 1800x was going for like £259 or 257 quid every time it ran out of stock the price shoots up, this is on a website i cannot name, not bad considering 1800x is faster than 8600k when all cores/threads are used.

And is tiny bit faster than 8700k as well.

look at the whole and a ryzen chip in gaming is about the same as a 7600k i5. 8700k is miles in front. it will be in front of even the new ryzen.if its a hundred difference do it.

check the benchmarks.numerous ones.8700k is top of the tree in literally everything.you will also see i5 7600k mostly beating even the 1800x on a whole though its about the same as the i5.which compared to the coffeelake chips sucks.
