well if im right (prob not :) ) the e4300 has multiplier 9 but 1.8ghz stock and the e6400 has mutliplier 8 and 2.1ghz stock with 1066mhz bus speed

so isnt the e6400 a better processor to go for?

also you said the stock FSB doesnt matter if im going to overclock but the motherboard says max 1066mhz which is the same as the e6400 not clocked

please answer this too. can i use the e6400 with the asrock conroexfire motherboard with standard fan/heatsink to overclock to 3ghz minimum?

At stock speed the E6400 will outperform the E4300 definately cuz of higher clock speed and higher FSB.

But the E4300 is a more oc friendly cpu as it has higher multi which means you don't need to raise FSB too high (stressing the northbridge) in order to get high CPU clock.

At stock speed the E6400's actual FSB is 266 (1066 quad-pumped) and so the RAM speed should be DDR2 533 PC4200. DDR2 1066 PC8533 is for extreme high fsb ocing which you don't need for E4300. For the price of PC8533 the cash is better spent in a better cpu like the E6600.

In order to oc that E6400 you need 375Mhz FSB which I highly doubt that asrock conroexfire is capable of.

You are much better off with E4300 TBH since you only need 333Mhz FSB to reach 3Ghz.

True, RAM prices are so cheap at the moment, compared to few months ago. For another £20, you can get team elite RAM with it's micron chips - that should do 1000MHz!

Where is this on OC ?

What you mean ?

I don't have first hand experience of either, but the general consensus is that micron chips allow the best overclocking, up to 1000MHz (DDR) and beyond. Corsair used to use them, but they have switched. It seems Team are using Micron for their Elite RAM, as are Crucial for their 10th anniversary stuff.

Geil RAM isn't isn't using micron, but that isn't to say it won't overclock.
