My boy has been busily saving up and is now ready to buy the parts for his next pc.

Before he pulls the trigger, can someone please look over this basket and suggest improvements? He's currently using a GTX970 and will be upgrading that later.

Nice spot with the 2400 RAM, thanks!

@orbitalwalsh What's the benefit from going with the x470 mb, rather than the AB350, which is £40 cheaper?

B350 gaming is a cracking board , but since ryzen 2600 is out and is a faster chip to close the gap on performance with Intel I cores and I could spec is for just slightly more then your list, was a no brainer . He board is better designed for RMA speed and VRM , extra m.2 slot if needs be and just looks stunning in the flesh
Also audio is a good fair better too !
Soon as the B450 Gaming 3 rolls out would be my No1 judget choice but they have managed to keep Aorus boards down a lot in price !!! I'm surprised by that and I think others may be to .. outs to shame their z370 boards !

For £10 more, that list is better performance and value :) and looks damn good

Ahh the x470 motherboard is pre-order only.

Should I go back to the B350 or is there a better one available in the same price range?

(Edit) My boy also said he didn't like the look of the case. I'm assuming there wouldn't be a problem going with this one instead? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/aero...e-midi-tower-gaming-case-black-ca-201-ae.html

(Another Edit) He now prefers the look of this case: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kolink-vault-midi-tower-gaming-case-black-blue-led-ca-020-kk.html

Sold out, went fast then .
If your happy with the B350 Gaming 3 , slap in the 1600 previous gen and your sorted, that's about £60 saving

Cases are hard things because of asthetics , everyone's different . And younger you are the more bold you want it, older you want refinement . But key thing is build quality which they lack above.

Again knock off price for the case and you'll save case with any that your son likes :)

Wow, looks like most x470 gone ... Sure launch price of that Aorus Ultra was £119... Supply and demand.. all will start to creep up soon if a lot pre orders roll in..

@orbitalwalsh Sorry to keep coming back to you...

Did you drop to the older Ryzen 5 chip due to budget, or is it a better chip for the AB350 motherboard? The boy has set his heart on the Kolink case for £42.95, so that frees up a little of the budget to go with the new R5 chip if it makes sense to do that

I noticed you also switched to the PSU suggested by @EsaT . I assume that's the 'better; PSU, even though it's listed as gold rather than platinum?

that kolonic case ia a really bad choice, bad airflow and it scratches soo easy. Go for the nzxt s340 elite which orbital posted, its a better choice and he won't be disappointed

The S340 doesn't exactly have great airflow either. Shame that the Fractal Meshify isn't on offer as that has great airflow and it was around 60 odd quid a few weeks ago.

Efficiency difference between 80+ Gold and Platinum is small and doesn't really tell about component quality.
And unless it were some imaginary ~100% efficient PSU Super Flower has 12V filtering capacitors in bad place in between 12V rectifier heatsink and DC-DC PCB
High quality aiming designer would think twice about putting even quality capacitors into somewhere next to possibly hot component and not so great airflow.
And then wire spaghetti of non-modular cabling keeps rest of third tier maker secondary caps well protected from airflow.

Afternoon , as the other have quoted . Change of PSU for quality . Used the king many times but 650w version which has different caps in .

Selected the older ryzen because it's cheaper and gets the job done ! Your son won't know the difference basically. Tech nerds on here will .
It'll last him a good while as next year, 3rd gen Ryzen comes out which means in 3 years time he can pop on of those in second hand to gain extra life in the system

The budget is £570 excluding shipping, no OS or GPU required for now. If it creeps over by a few quid I can cover it though.

The latest version of the basket I've got is:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £509.97 (includes shipping: £11.10)

The only thing left to sort now is the case. From talking to him last night, his only requirement is that it looks 'cool' with blue LEDs. I obviously want him to get the best quality he can for his budget preferably with a couple of fans and removable dust filters. I'll work my way through all the listings and see what I can find that might suit us both

i'm going to go left-wing and suggest that you don't have to spend that much.
a ryzen 4c8t processor should be sufficient (for now), and with AM4 supported till 2020, it'll be easy to drop in a better chip down the line.

Lots of options, nice case with RGB fans sperate .
Im guessing cool is like looking like the old Stealth fighter compared to the modern smooth ones now a days hehe .

As a heads up, the b350 might not have latest BIOS update on it for 2nd Gen ryzen . If it has label for 2200/2400g then it should post .

If any issues , Gigabyte should be able to flash it for you as their UK based. Sure @GIGA-Man the rep can lend a hand if needs be

Nice price for ryzen 1400!
