New Canon full frame?

I am not saying that that alignment makes a match, at each level in my line up the canon body would be better than the Nikon. Clearly the 5DMK3 is better than the D600, but the D600 is much closer to the 5DmK3 than the 6D, it is about 90% of the camera depending on needs (if you need pro AF then the difference is much more important between the 2).

It is just a fact that Canon doesn't offer a true high res camera and there is a large demand for a new one. 1DsMK3 and 5dMKII owners that purchased their cameras in part due to the high resolution sensor and actively need to the resolution for landscape/wildlife/studio etc have absolutely zero upgrade options with Canon at the moment. 1Dsmkiii owners have gone from, a near top of the line 21MP sensor down to an 18MP sensor. The imminent existence of a new high res Canon body is a certainty or Canon will loose massive share. This upcoming Canon 3D could be a 1D style full pro body etc.

If Canon don't release a high res body then they will loose a lot of the top end DSLR market share - nature togs are already swapping out for a Nikon setup because they have given up waiting on Canon.

I expect the rumours of the 3D go back a long time and get muddied because it was not clear what camera the 5DMKIII would be. At one time there was high exceptions of the 5DMKIII being a 38-46MP camera, with the 1DX released then people were thinking it would be the same 18MP sensor- no one expected Canon to simply tweak the 5DMKII sensor some more and play conservative with the pixels which has never been Canon's strategy.

To reiterate, I am not claiming that with my line up the bodies are in any way equivalent but to me from a a feature perspective that line up makes for a closer more balanced table. People always try to line up Nikon and Canon bodies and this is rarely a good idea (typically one of the bodies fits neatly between 2 bodies of the other manufacturer, only the top and bottom can be compared) and I have told people not to do it before myself, yet I am guilty of trying to make an alignment myself.

Jessops are overpriced, no doubt about it, but I use them for finance deals on lenses. Sure I pay about £100-£200 more when I do, but for convenience and 0% finance you're better off (compared to WEX finance of 29%+). Also some other finance companies ask for volumes of evidence of ID even when you've lived at an address for nearly 40 years!

The worst thing I'd say about Jessops is their customer service. It's all been discussed in another thread, so I won't repeat myself.

Jessops is not always that expensive and I far prefer to walk into a shop and try the exact lens/camera before purchasing with the ability to test several lenses to pick the sharpest, and easily return it later if I find an issue.

Buying online I have found all sorts of problems. I went through several dud Tamron 17-50s before giving up, each return was a major hassle and I had to threaten legal action.

My local one, as others have mentioned, don't seem to stock expensive lenses anymore, just entry level ones. It's still worth popping into the one in Wrexham though as they're a pleasant bunch in-store, and there was a beautiful Irish woman that sold me some stuff there a while ago. She's wubbly :D

Guess it dependant n where you live as both Milton Keynes stores stock a decent range and the store in manchester has a very good selection.

My local specialist shops don't even have the most popular entry level stuff like the 50mm primes. They're such an embarrassment, lets be honest if you don't sell even that, you can't call yourself a camera shop, you may as well become an Argos outlet.

Jessops online has the lowest price for a D800E ATMO, order for in store pick up, walk in store, test camera properly for AF issues (I don't think any E model has any reported issues though), and purchase if happy.

Whats not too like about Jessops:D

Selected stores only though, none of which are ANYWHERE near where I live -.- Ordering online with jessops is also diabolical as you get no tracking info at all lol. Not going to drop £2550 on sale to have no tracking info at all :(

My card reader died tonight (of course, it was bound to when I finally got a decent camera!) so I may pop into Jessops as they generally price match smaller items.

I'm a great believer in free trade, not buying from 'far east' suppliers as someone suggested in this thread is quite simply bigoted and will lead to people walking into these places and being vastly overcharged.

Totally ignoring you Jesspos rant as it is just so boring :o

I can't ignore this point though, not using *******, Digital Rev and the like is nothing to do with being a 'bigot' the reason they are so cheap is because they dodge UK tax as a result of which you don't get a proper Warranty on a lot of items. Some poeple think the saving is worth the tax dodging and the warranty situation some people don't it really is as simple as that. Just like some people think the retail experience of a bricks and mortar shop like your beloved Jessops is worth paying a premium for.

IMO it's worth it , each to their own but I don't think paying 1k extra to buy a 5d3 just so u get proper warranty is worth it.

Are u one of those people who also doesn't buy a single cloth of item when on holiday abroad without notifying the immigration boarder control that u need to pay tax for those?

Doubt it. Pretty much all of us have dodged tax by buying abroad and it doesn't matter if its a new plair of Levi jeans or a new camera, still the same man

Not sure where jeans came into the debate but you don't need to pay tax on every pair of jeans or other item purchased whilst on holiday you have an allowance under which tax is not needed the current limit is £390 which is a fair few pairs of jeans! I don't think I've ever exceeded it because I go on holiday to relax and see the world not go shopping! The only time I can remember dodging tax onthe way back from holiday was half a litre of JD because I picked ou the 1.5ltr bottle in duty free rather than the 1 litre which put me over the allowance. I have however purchased a Canon S100 from Digital Rev purely because it was a thrid cheaper.

I simply pointed out that it is a personal decesion whether or not you want to breach the tax laws and whether or not you want a full guarantee, nowhere did I tell you not to just said that people should do what they want and that different people have different priorities.

Bricks and mortar is always preferred, but wouldn't go near Jessops since the time they tried to sell the wrong lens to my brother. A quick google and a picture of the actual lens pretty much ended the argument. The lens they tried to charge £200 or so for was worth about £80 on a good day.
