New Car - Choice of 3

No it wont get used most of the time. It will be sitting in the garage, or whenever it needs to be used it will be used. Simple. Maybe its a waste of the tax payers money, but as a self employed couple , my parents have paid out more tax over the last 10 years than the majority of workers on here, complaining.

Being self employed was a huge tax getout hence they clamped down on it a few years back, my dad used to do it....

I think its a company car is it not? i.e. Not always available for use, where as the mobility one would be

OK now i understand the situation. But as the OP would be using it 80% of the time, it seems to me like his dad doesnt need it that urgently anyway, and with another 2 cars in the family, im sure something could be arranged on the odd time he might need a car and his company car is out of action.

It seems for the amount of time the motability car would be used for, it would be a total waste of YOUR money as well as everyone else's.

I highly suspect the OP will be driving it even though he says he wont. It happens all the time, and i apologise if im wrong on that score, but ive seen and heard it all too often before.

Can I ask why he would need it to be under 11 seconds at 0-60? and why your main choice is an Astra SRi?

A disabled person doesn't need these, a standard automatic car would suffice.

So what exactly is the point of stumping up extra cash to get something like a SportHatch when its going to spend 90% of its life in garage rotting away?

Why not just get a 1.0 Hatch of some sort that wont cost you any extra and leave that in the garage.

It strikes me as nothing but stupidity to spend a load of cash on a fourth (is that right?) car that will barely even get used.

But the point is... my dad WILL be using the car, if the car wasnt there, what would he do for that 20% of the time that he hasnt got any Mobility?

Still doesn't require a Sport Hatch or a convertible does it?

Corsa would do that job admirably.

its just the way you have put this thread accross, it SOUNDS like you will be using it 99% of the time, but regardless, its for your DAD, not you.

It just sounds like your going to be using it most of the time, but have backtracked a bit and changed your mind because of the way the thread has gone.

My dad wanted a 1.6 FSI auto S Golf, which wouldnt be far from free of charge, a couple of hundred pounds i think. Ive said i will put some money towards getting a better spec car, so yes, for when i am driving the car, it will be nicer. Wow.

What i dont understand is, why you dont understand that if i totally wanted to screw tax payers (including myself) i could sell my own car.... and use this motability car as my main means of transport. that would leave me £6000 better off.

Why put any money towards it though if like you say, it'll spend most of it's life in a garage, only being used when your dad needs it?

Ive not said it will only be used by my dad. I will be using the car. At weekends when im not going to uni and at home and not working.

At the end of the day guys, its £45 my dad is entitled to. If i were to say , he takes the £45 for his disbailty, then goes into his own bank account and gives me £45, would you feel better? Would you see past the OMG ,My Taxes!

For the same reason someone would spend hundreds on a bottle of champagne when hey could have a cheapo £4 bottle.

That would only be a useful analogy if they weren't going to drink it though.

So that takes us back to the whole, "you'll be using it more than anyone else, this is bordering on fraud" point again.

It's no different. You shouldn't be the person benefiting from funds designed to help disabled people continue with day to day life as best they can.
