So to add insult to injury, my Dad just got his car confirmed.

Fuuu.

£240/month :'(

Poverty white tho.

Skoda Yeti is in the country being prepared, meaning the A4 will be going back in the next 2 weeks. I've thoroughly enjoyed the car, quite a bit better than anything I've owned previously on the scheme. I was excited by the engine choice but in reality it doesn't feel that quick. I guess when looking at 0-60 of 5.7, most of that is helped by the Quattro. Once on the move, it feels "Okay" and the 252ps doesn't feel enough. The DSG has been a bit strange a few times, where I'd plant my foot and nothing would happen for a few second (feels like an age when going for an overtake). What makes this worse is the fake engine noises go into race mode, even if the engine and gear box haven't caught up.

Over 4600 miles I've averaged 35mpg, which I think isn't too bad really. The ride is firm which for the type of driving I do (A/B roads) it can get a bit tiring after my 1.5hr commute. The steering is a touch on the heavy side, I'd have preferred it a bit lighter for the long drives.

I now have the April list and some decisions to make. There's a very sensible side of me that sees the low cost and type of driving I do. I start looking at some 2.0 TDI variant in a comfortable car which will do the job very well. Then I notice this on the list:

GOLF A7 ESTATE R 2.0 310PTSI DSG6 4M £178pm

It only has 10 allocations, so it's a long shot. I'm leaning towards this as a first choice then a more sensible option for the 2nd choice:

TIGUAN SE NAVIGATION 2.0 TDI SC190 P4MOTION 7 SPEED DSG £171pm

Decisions.

Edit:

Spoken to my brother he seems to think there isn't much point going for the Golf R, as they will be snapped up by those with high banding. Those of us on this scheme via family literally get the left overs after everyone in the group has had their pick.

Narrowed down my choices to:

Superb SE L Executive Hatchback 2.0 TDI 150PS DSG £145pm
TIGUAN SE NAVIGATION 2.0 TDI SC150 P2WD BMT 7 SPEED DSG £157pm
Q3 PI 1.4 TFSI CoD S line Edition 150 S tronic £158pm

1.4 TFSI was more than adequate in my Golf Estate and returned 50mpg on a run. There are much nicer cars on offer, but I just can't justify spending more to sit in traffic or behind a queue at 40/50mph.

S4 Avant quattro 354PS S tronic £242pm
New S5 Sportback quattro 354 Tiptronic £243pm
A6 allroad 3.0 BiTDI quattro 320PS 8 sp tiptronic Sport £301pm
GOLF A7 ESTATE R 2.0 310PTSI DSG6 4M £178pm
S1 Sportback 2.0TFSI 231 manual £141pm
TOUAREG FL R LINE PLUS 3.0 TDI V6 262PBMT SCR £265pm

So plenty, admittedly a lot of these will have low allocations and be snapped up by employees. No idea how my parents managed to get an S5.

Final order put in.

1st choice
TIGUAN SEL 2.0 TDI SC150 P2WD BMT 7 SPEED DSG £172pm
Colour 1st choice: Caribbean Blue
Colour 2nd choice: Indium Grey

2nd choice
Superb SE L Executive Hatchback 2.0 TDI 150PS DSG £145pm
Colour 1st choice: Petrol Blue metallic
Colour 2nd choice: Quartz Grey metallic

Basically very similar to what I asked for this time round, but ended up with a Yeti. Allocations for the Tiguan are 54 and now that it's not super new it should give me a better chance. Superb has 20 allocations which is average.

The A1 I had a while back was pretty cramped and uncomfortable for my commute, and S1 competition pack is manual only too. Need DSG cos knees :'( My brother was driving one a few weeks back in bright yellow which did look pretty awesome.

Yea Tiguan should be doable this time round, should offer a great all around package.

So it's approaching that time again where I will hand over cars. The Yeti is going back, which I am very happy about - it's not the type of car I'd buy personally. It's been OK, but a massive step down from the A4 I handed back.

From my 1st and 2nd choice posted above, I once again got neither. The 3rd choice which I pick up October 24th is better than the Yeti. It's a VW Passat Estate 2.0TDI 150ps DSG R-Line in white for £171pm.

Choice wise this time round it looks better, as the new Q5 is high on allocations. Having spoken to my brother he has said the scheme is harder to get the better choices due to some cuts so best to play it safe. I've done that on my first choice but gone for the A5 on the 2nd choice as these aren't as popular as the other Audi models.

Gone for the same 2.0 petrol in both, it's a really good engine, very good in the A4 I had.

1st choice
New Q5 2.0TFSI S Line Quattro 252ps S Tronic £228pm
Colour 1st choice: Monsoon Grey
Colour 2nd choice: Navarra blue

2nd choice
New A5 Sportback 2.0TFSI 252ps S Line Quattro S Tronic £228pm
Colour 1st choice: Monsoon Grey
Colour 2nd choice: Scuba Blue

These deals seem to be getting less good.

Agreed the 3rd choices suck. I've said if I cannot get any of my choices this time round I may consider opting out. The Yeti almost pushed me over the edge.

I still think £171pm provides some decent value. It's R-Line, comes with virtual cockpit and the estate is a bit more than the saloon.

I’ve pushed my budget on my choices for April 2018. £228 gets either of the above cars.

Can you get an R8 for 3 fiddy per month?

If so, can I have 4 please and there is a (small....half pint) beer in it for you?

The most expensive car on the list is an S6 Avant at £326pm. Allocations for the month at a mighty 3...

My brother looks after the cars on the Audi driving experience so won't be long before he can take home the RS6 and R8 to put some miles on. He's been driving an RS3 for the past few weeks instead of his Golf R - such a git at 25 I'd have loved to drive those.

I was offered either of those cars for £228 a month I’d go for them in a heartbeat.

A5 with that engine would be my pick but I’m sure the Q5 will be decent too.

Allocations are lower on the A5 at only 20, and being on the scheme means I'm at the back of the queue. The Q5 is the new one just launched, so it has plenty of allocations, I just have to hope there's enough for me :)

The engine is very good, I enjoyed it in the A4.

V10 plus. Hopefully get a go this weekend.

It was a fantastic machine. The noise and pace were glorious.

He's getting another for longer in December when the Audi driving experience cars come back, should also get TTRS and RS6.

In other news my brother has said that some time next year he will be looking to get his fiancée onto the scheme so either I or my parents would need to come off the scheme. I knew it would come eventually, so no shock. My parents have said they would be OK coming off if I didn't want to, so I have said I'll see how I feel with my next choice. Another 3rd choice and it will make the decision easier. Besides, my parents have far more money than me. At the same time, September next year my twice a week commute of 90 miles will become a walk to a train station and a train into London, meaning I won't need a car much as I'll be WFH the other 3 days.

Picking up the Passat tomorrow, quite surprised at the price seeing it on the order form £31,895.. crazy.

Anyway, looks like the scheme will be coming to an end for me next year, the last car will be the one I pick up in April. With my brother looking to add his fiancee to the scheme that leaves either me or my parents to forfeit. It makes sense for me to drop out of the scheme especially as next year I'll be doing next to no driving for work, and I have my Honda Civic to use as our family car on weekends. I'll probably pick up a cheap run about for the times when we need 2 cars. However 3-4 days a week I'll be WFH with 1-2 days in London, and I can walk to the train station in 15mins.

Looks like the last car on the scheme for me will be a decent one, confirmation just came through.

Audi Q5 S line 2.0 TFSI quattro 252 PS S tronic - Monsoon Grey - £228pm.

Should be pretty damn good.

I don't I'm afraid, my brother would know. He works at HQ in MK so your paths may cross if you ever go into the work shops :)

So the saga may not be over. My brother's fiancée has a new job at Scania which being part of VAG group means she has access to her own scheme. Going to chat with my brother on the weekend, but he says it looks promising for me staying on the scheme.

Enjoying the Passat as solid all-rounder, but cannot wait to get into the Q5. Loved the 252ps in the A4 and looking forward to it again in Q5.

Q5 has landed in the country, awaiting inspection, should have it in the next couple weeks.

There are some big changes coming to the scheme which will make it worse in terms of car selection. Straight off the bat, no more Audis... unless you work directly for Audi. It seems due to the emissions scandal, they are going to be restricting the list quite heavily. The list is usually out first of the month, but it should be released in it's new format on Monday. I'll see what the damage is then, my brother seems to think it will be limited to only certain models e.g. Golf, Leon, Octavia etc. It's like getting the 3rd choice every time.

If that's the case I may look at leaving the scheme at some point next year.
