New computer build.

Oh right OK, is this just until its installed? Is there anything I need to change anywhere else?

Thanks for the response.

EDIT: Also is it anything to do with what SATA ports it is connected too? Should I have the SSD in port 0 of SATAII?

Doesn't matter with SATA. Maybe it's just how it has been detected by the bios.

True about unplugging the other drive. Windows is a bit retarded and might try to install the MBR (Master Boot Record) on a hard drive. At least I think that's what happened to mine. Either that or the HD, which had a previous windows install, mucked it all up.

Hey guys, I have now installed windows 7 and installed the drivers etc for the graphics card. I have run windows experience index just out of curiosity, everything is 7.7/7.8 except the CPU. Only 7.5! Don't know if OC genie will bring that up at all or if that's nothing to do with it?

Also is realtemp the best way to get an accurate idea of CPU temperature? Or is there anything better?

Thanks guys :)

Oh and I presume it's OK to connect the other hard drive back up? It does have system backups of my laptop on but I presume this is not a problem?

Lastly is there anything else I need to do to my comp, settings wise or anything else? Anything to do with any of the GPU software, afterburner etc? And should I use OC genie?

Sorry for all the questions, just don't want to forget anything! Thanks a lot guys :)

be carful with oc genie if its anything like the oc tuner on asus boards it will base oc to 103...this is meant to be very bad

go into defrag menu and check ssd is not scheduled for defrag, it doesnt need it and it will affect its life span to do it....windows 7 will likely have turned this off automatically

Plug in other hdd's wont e a prob, but might want to go into bios when start up and check boot order starts with ssd.

Right well here's what you should do to overclock your 2500k:

save your current profile in the bios
set the multiplier to By All Cores > 44
set the Load-line Calibration to Extreme
set the VRM Frequency to Manual > 350
set the Phase Control to Extreme
set the Duty Control to Extreme
set the CPU Current Capability to 110%
set the CPU Voltage to Manual Mode > 1.35v
set the DRAM Voltage to 1.5v
set the VCCSA Voltage to 1.125v
set the VCCIO Voltage to 1.15v
set the CPU PLL Voltage to 1.8125v
save this profile

If everything seems ok +1 the multiplier for 4.5GHz. You could start at 43 to be safe and work your way up.

Manually set base clock to 100, do not go beyond this!

Presumably you have got the drivers for the hd 6950 from ati? Personally I 'd recommend 11.4 drivers as opposed to the newer 11.6.

You will also want to install the updated intel rst (10), will help with the ssd, I presume this will be on the disc with the mobo....

- re-attach and wipe out the hard drive.
- get the latest windows updates.
- get the latest drivers updates, BIOS maybe (unless it is relatively up to date).
- check in device manager for dodgy drivers (yellow question mark).
- CPU-Z / HW monitor, dunno real temp, just to make sure of the temps.
- press that button! Overclocking around 4.4GHz, ~60C, <1.3V vcore.
- Most likely memory settings would be loose., so bring memory to 1600MHz, with manufacturer specified timings, and 1.5-1.55V, maybe even lower.
- run memtest overnight, and all sorts of torture tests for a few hours to check stability.

Ideally, memory 1600MHz, Vdimm 1.5V, CAS 7-8-7-24 2N (as specified), Vcore 1.28V, 4.4GHz overclock, and around 60C temps, 24 hours stable. Not guaranteed to reach those numbers, but that's what I would consider a 100% successful completion :) Then there are some tweaks here and there maybe.

Thanks for the responses. I don't know what to do now, should I hit the OC genie button or do it manually? I have never done it before myself. Do you think OC genie will be OK?

Thanks guys

Oh sorry and another thing. I have just run the mobo disc to update/install all drivers. That is all sorted, and the GPU disc has been run.

Also Olivier I didn't want to wipe the hard drive, do I need to or can I just connect back up?

Lastly on boot I am getting this:

I don't understand because shouldn't it be detecting the SSD or is it only for normal harddrives?

Thanks!

you'll be ok with HD on.

Check on BIOS for AHCI mode and SSD boot priority #1 SHould detect SSD like any other drives.

Try OC Genie. Then tweak the results a bit later.

Also, is the SSD connected to marvel controller? I'd use the Intel SATA III controllers.

Right these are the temps I am getting when I run HW monitor:

BIOS should be set to AHCI because I changed it and boot priority #1 is currently DVD drive and then SSD. I have the DVD drive in something like SATA port 3 and SSD in SATA port 5. The SATA III ports according to the manual are SATA 1-2 and SATA 7-8 which is why I did'nt connect to these.

Dont worry about that message on boot up, i believe its to do with the on board mobo hard drive which u dont have...or something like that, either way not a problem.

Temps look good. Go for OC genie just pay attention to what it brings out, it will be a nice indicator of what your chip will be capable of. do it and post your results and the settings on the ones i mentioned above...then we can recommend tweaks.

Looks like the Marvell controller complains that nothing's been plugged into it and it's whining for attention :) You could probably disable it all together, but not worth it. Just let it whine at being useless.

Thanks for the responses guys. Olivier should I still connect the SSD to SATA III like you said or keep it in the SATA II like everything else? Also I believe thats the marvel controller for SATA III?

Once I press that OC button how am I monitoring what happens? Is it hardware monitor again?

Thanks guys :)

The Intel has SATA 3 and SATA 2 ports. You have a Vertex 2E, so it doesn't matter as it wont max SATA 2.

cpu-Z for voltage ram and CPU clock values, and realtemp / HWmonitor for monitoring temps(although HWmnonitor seem to give the wrong values at some votlages).

You can run SSD and HDD benchmarks as well while you're at it.

And run intelburntest / prime95 for a while.

Right I have just connected up the drive again. It still comes up as disk 0 in disk managment and SSD is disc 1. I presume this is definitely not a problem?

Also here is what CPU-Z currently says about the CPU and memory.

Right thanks for the response :) First of all I just wanted to say I am only using SSD for now, going to be a SATA III hard drive shortly. Decided it will be better because I need the other for backups.

Anyway I have pushed the button this is what I have:

This at load? :D Seems OK, tad high but Vcore is a bit on the high side.

Try to reduce Vcore (chance it at 1.3V, and 0.2V increments) and test gain at load (prime95, 100% CPU usage).
