New computer build.

DRAM voltage is at 1.664V?? =/

And J-Fro thanks, that's impressive :P

I just didn't want to get into overclocking because I want everything to be running just normally really. Thought I would try the OC genie because it does it for you!

Right this is all starting to make me a bit worried now! This RAM said 1.5V normal which is why I got it!

Also before I start making changes should I save the original settings with OC genie?

EDIT: Without OC genie!

Hmm I am now thinking of not using OC genie and either doing it manually or not at all. From what everybody has said it seems to be better to do it manually really. Just don't know if I have the guts for it! =/

Lol so at stock the DRAM voltage in bios is 1.488V. Which makes me calmer :P Just dislike the CPU speed. The CPU core voltage is 1.176V.

Also the DRAM timing mode says auto, does this matter?

I want faster speeds but am too scared of what might happen :(

Right well here's what you should do to overclock your 2500k:

save your current profile in the bios
set the multiplier to By All Cores > 44
set the Load-line Calibration to Extreme
set the VRM Frequency to Manual > 350
set the Phase Control to Extreme
set the Duty Control to Extreme
set the CPU Current Capability to 110%
set the CPU Voltage to Manual Mode > 1.35v
set the DRAM Voltage to 1.5v
set the VCCSA Voltage to 1.125v
set the VCCIO Voltage to 1.15v
set the CPU PLL Voltage to 1.8125v
save this profile

If everything seems ok +1 the multiplier for 4.5GHz. You could start at 43 to be safe and work your way up.

Manually set base clock to 100, do not go beyond this!

Presumably you have got the drivers for the hd 6950 from ati? Personally I 'd recommend 11.4 drivers as opposed to the newer 11.6.

You will also want to install the updated intel rst (10), will help with the ssd, I presume this will be on the disc with the mobo....

Also this is what Jason posted a while ago. It's similar to what you guys have said but has a few extra things. Would this be ok settings if I man up and do it manually?

Thanks :)

Haha thats very helpful thanks again for everything. I will leave it as it is for now and give it a bit more thought first. So now I need to buy the monitors, HDD and sort out the cables :P

Thanks :)

Hey guys I think I am going to buy my monitors today, just wanted to ask whats the best way to check for dead pixels? I am a little bit worried about receiving a monitor with dead pixels.

Thanks

Right thanks very much thats extremely helpful, I have a piece of software that will do the colours so I will just use that :) I will also try to look into this dead pixel RMA scenerio. And Gillies from what I have seen so far it has been fine. Haven't got it fully up and running sorting various other things out first.

The temperatures all seem OK and it seems nice and secure. The only thing I noticed was that you can twist it slightly but this is normal. What problem are you having?

Thanks guys for the help

Yer thanks I was looking into this before and I think the Marvell ones use power from somewhere else on the mobo? Something like that I read anyway. And I know! It does not say anywhere so I managed to find this review on the motherboard:

http://www.eteknix.com/motherboards/msi-p67a-gd65-motherboard-review-1256/page4

It told me which ones luckily. And I will need to use a SATA III port for my new hard drive when I buy it. But yer thanks very much :)

Cack!!

Ah well. I shall see.

Edit:wildest, you may consider yourself blessed for investing in the cooler master, as it's not going to fit the 100 in a month of sundays. Drat!! Rookie error for the win!.

Hope everything is going well with your system :)

Oh that's a pain! I luckily had the help of olivier, he advised me on the CM 690 II. Any chance you can send it back? Or are you going to change the cooler? I guess you can always use the stock cooler for now?

And yer it all seems great from what I have tried, haven't been using it loads because I am sorting other things out (like my desk). Also need to sort out cable management once I have my hard drive.

Hey guys, basically I am still looking at monitors and frankly it's driving me mad. I think I have shortlisted the best three that I would go with. I will be using mostly for gaming and general use. I do not really photo edit. This is for a dual setup, the three are:

LG W2363D - £149.99
Dell U2311H - £190.00
LG W2361V-PF - £130.00

I know a lot have favoured the dell, but for me would this still be the one?

Thanks guys :)

Yer I know what you mean, I have seen the same really. But it's just that most the time people are using it for things like photo editing and general use. Never really see too much about gaming.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. From the links you have posted Stulid it does look like it cannot be faulted. The only thing is when I looked at the review on responsiveness and gaming it shows this:

dell_u2311h.jpg

The best shot is on the left and the worst is on the right. I can see some slight ghosting even on the best case I believe? But is this not too much to worry about? And olivier the only thing is I did want identical ones considering I am buying at the same time :) I think it will look nicer.

Thanks for the help :)

Also just to add the other thing that I like about the Dell is the 3 year warranty. Which includes next business day replacement as well as their 0 dead pixel policy!

Just thought I would let you guys know, I have finally made my mind up with what dual monitors to buy. I have gone with what many of you have said and bought two Dell U2311H. I will update when they are here.

Thanks :)

Hey guys,

Monitors have finally come today and am just setting up now :D I have also installed a new SATA III hard drive into the SATA 1 port of my computer, however it is not being recognised. It is appearing in disk managment though, am I suppose to format or something first?

Many thanks :)

Thanks guys, OK so I have selected drive letter. Now file system is set on NTFS which I presume is fine. Do I need to set an allocation unit size or do I leave as default? Is the volume label what appears in my computer? So can I change from new volume to say DATA? And lastly is quick format OK because its brand new?

Thanks for the help!
