So how's everyone's h80i or h100i doing? I haven't installed my H80i yet. Been very busy this week. Hoping to do it tomorrow or Tuesday. I hope all goes good:)

Going sweet m8. I have noticed over the last few days this H80i is better than the old H80 (by at least 1C)
Corsair forum is swimming with topics about faulty units.
General consensus now is not to flash the firmware unless you absolutely have to (vanity is not a reason to update).
In the meantime Corsair have admitted it's the software causing the problems (tho not publicly)
All I can say is as a happy customer - I hope you've got a good one there m8 ;)

I hope it is just software and firmware updates will solve the problem rather than end up hiding them as the idle rpm increase does. At this point I don't believe anything Corsair says.

There is no way the buzzing idle problem reached the customer without Corsair knowing about it... Unless they did no product testing... and only sell and run companies don't test their products to be sure all is good.;)

Not everyone had the problem so it is safe to say the testing did not cover every single system setup out there. There is nothing wrong with changing the rpm a little to solve the problem. That was a solution on the old series when the PSU was overvolting them because the psu was out of tolerance.

I suppose it is possible but just doesn't seem probable. As for the old series PSU "overvolting"... well if PSUs were "out of tolerance" there would be a lot more components having problems, not just Corsair pumps. If it was a voltage problem than it was because Corsiar's design did not allow pump to run at the top of normal PSU voltage range. ;) And that pump "solution" was later corrected by a different pump meaning it was more of a "work-a-round" than a solution... same as with the fans now.

Maybe Corsair need to use the 7 Ps more.;)

Thanks for the info mate:) tbh I'm a little nervous about installing it. Afraid I might have a bad one? So would you say I shouldn't update fw?

also I bought 2 SP120's to replace the stock fans. Hope that helps in the fan whine? don't know because I haven't installed yet:)

My H80i is still working great since installing a few days ago (apart from the high pitched wine at low RPM's lol) but I have started to think about finally upgrading to the SP120 fans that everyone else is doing with their H100i's. Has anyone upgraded their stock H80i fans to a set of these yet & if so, does it really fix the high pitched whine issue? Also are these the correct ones to get: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-008-CS&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=4

Thanks all - Liam

I'm about to install my h80i with sp120 fans and yes those are the right ones:)

They were overvolting the pumps making them run faster than they should be. It was the sole cause of the problems with the last series which is why they changed the pump. A small portion of PSUs were running out of the 10% range they should be. Many people who had the high volting PSUs corrected it with a resistor. Later Corsair changed the pump to cope with the high voltage.

and I said

:D

I'll believe it's more like a portion of PSUs were supplying voltage in the top of but still within industry spec but above what the pumps were designed for so made noise.

That was the problem, they weren't running in the normal range which is plus or minus 10%. They were out of tolerance. This is why some people had issues when most others didn't. Technically the industry standard is plus or minus 5%.

The official advice from the corsair staff is not to update the firmware unless you absolutely have to, vanity is not a necessity. The latest (2.2.0) Link software needs the firmware on H100i/H80i to be updated to 1.0.4.
The units are currently still being distributed with an earlier firmware so the earlier software is needed (2.0.16 beta). We've all got our fingers crossed that there will be another software/firmware released before the new year considering all the damage being done.

As for the fan noise SP120s are defo the way to go. Loads quieter than the stock fans.

Advice for peeps who have one:
1. Before installing hold the unit by the rad so the pump hangs and give a gentle rock/shake for about a minute before installing (sends any air to the rad).
2. Run the unit externally first to check for noise.
3. If you get a rumble noise do not update the firmware as it'll turn into a high pitched whine.
4. When installing the software, unless you have an AXi PSU do not let the unsigned drivers install (they're only for the PSU)
5. Don't expect to see 'Corsair Link(TM) USB Dongle' in device manager. These pump units are supposed to run as a 'HID Device' with microsoft drivers. If you still get the '!' warning triangle' update the drivers through windows update.

It seems a real shame the software doesn't come with these units. But even worse - there's no instructions with them.
I'm waiting for an official statement. As soon as I get it I'll post it up for y'all

My thoughts: Don't be put off by all this. These units are great and to be honest for the volume being sold there aren't really that many bad units turning up

Thanks Ripshod. keep us updated mate. cheers:)

So, if I change the fans (preferably to SP120s) and don't install the link software, I should be good to go? If it works like that then I can wait for Corsair to sort the software out later on and just live with fewer/no fan options?
