I see that dell are now selling the above beast, although i bought a 1530 this week, im pretty tempted to cut and run and grab a 1730 if i can haggle a decent discount.

Hits 2k with 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hard drives, a true desktop replacement.

i wouldnt jump ship yet, theres new Penryns that go up 2.8Ghz, which should be here by now i'd have thought?

2k is steep. Think long and hard before you buy. That notebook will be out of date in a year. Hell, I bought my notebook less then 6 months ago, it's now out of date.

8800>7950GTX
New CPU's>my T72

Well, i doubt it, the 1710 came out 2 years ago with 7900gtx, and apart from a minor refresh last year with the 7950gtx, it has been unsurpassed.

It would last a couple of years without trouble id reckon.

If i can haggle it down to 1500 quid which i reckon is possible, ill give it a go :)

penryns cheaper than the current 2.8 thats on offer with it? (adds about £400 to the cost)

actually scrap that didnt realise there was a 2.8Ghz Mobile Core 2 Duo, also the difference i can see is the new penryn 2.8Ghz Extreme Core 2 Duo has 6MB L2 Cache instead of 4MB, there aint enough change to warranty going for a penryn if you already have a 2.8Ghz

I did last week

M1730 smoke grey panels
X7900 2.8Mhz CPU (overclockable)
Dual 8800GTX in SLI
4Gb Ram
320GB HD (2 x 160 x 7200 in raid 0)
DVD rw (they do have blu ray as an option)
Vista home premium
XPs M1730 backpack

Ive set a target of £1500 with the 2.4, 4gb ram, 500gb hard disks, last time i bought a 1710 i managed to get £600 off, so i reckon its achievable, but ill see, he's phoning me back at 11.30 :)

wow...

Wish I was that good at negotiating....

I would never have guessed you could get this much off....
