Guess it depends who you get on the phone.....

Saved me ~250 notes so i was very happy

Just checking, you are starting from the most expensive starting option to build this right ?

If you start with the base cheap one it costs like 200 more than mine did.....

That keyboard on the new AW is nice...I want.

Rock are now offering their dual 8800 machine @ a mere 2.5k starting price (price doesn't even include quad core). I specced a top end machine for 4k..screw that.

My other 1/2's son moved back to California for his job. His M15x arrived 2 days ago.

He really likes it :-)

Some of his words, you can tell he is American LOL :)

The Alien FX zones are the head on the lid, touchpad, keyboard, touch sensitive keys at top, alienhaed on inside, and the Alienware name under the screen. You can set them individually and also set them to change colour on events as well as cycle through colours. For example, you can have your keyboard change colour when you get new mail!

It is awesome, after getting it setup and installing anti-virus I loaded WoW onto it and it looks increadible. The quality of the screen is as good if not better than my old Compaq. The touch pad isn't very sensitive but its liveable for looking so cool. Its the little touches that make the laptop amazing though. For example when you plug in a USB mouse it recognises its a mouse and not only disables the touch pad but turns off the boarder lighting on the touch pad as a visual clue that it is turned off. Its awesome.

Cheers

Looks ok I spose, just that a macbook pro for example has such a more sleek and elegant look instead of all this shiny red light stuff. Just my personal opinion.

I agree kind of "bland" really...

I do like the backlit k/b. I like to game in the TV room while the other 1/2 is watching tv with hardly any lights on and this makes it really easy...

I am impressed at some of the features it has though.....

I guess the backlit keyboard is pretty useful but even that could be had on a MBP.

What are the specs on that thing anyway?

I think he should have ordered the 8800 GTX with it

Same spec as Mip apart from I got the backpack and 3 yrs warranty.
Managed to get it for 2597 after 20 mins haggling on the phone:rolleyes:

Should be here by the 29th:)

Cant wait for people to get laptops with the 8800 gtx in and give us some benchies! Battery life, heat, etc is also an essential - much love :D

Are there any reviews on that new alienware yet?

Dell just cancelled my order by mistake... The new ship date I have been given for my M1730 with Dual 8800 is now March....

I am hopping mad and will be speaking to Customer services again..

Getting to the point I might wait for penryns and maybe even the m17x

Don't forget the final discount guys - when it arrives, check it over thoroughly, if you don't like something, threaten to send it back, they are authorized to offer up to £150 to get you simply to keep it ;) - helped me take the savings on my 1710 to the £500 mark!

Also - I wouldn't fuss too much about the 1/3 yr warranty thing (unless it's 'free' of course)- if they push it, ask why you need it - machine breaks down often does it? Also remember that under the Sale of Goods Act the machine has to be fit for purpose and you should be able to expect reasonable usage out of it - 1 year is not 'reasonable' for something retailing for £2500+ : should it break down outside a 1 yr warranty you will still be able to force them to fix it ;)

Grrr

Dell cancelled my order aswell:mad:
Partly my fault:rolleyes:
They took the money out of my account but I forgot to update my debit card to my new address:( So they cancelled till I get my card updated and redo the order again =/

Guessing I'll get it sometime in march now.I also thought about waiting for the Penrynn but can't be arsed anymore...Theres always something slightly better around the corner;)

Well, dell were back on the phone to me today, with a penryn 2.5, 4gb ram, dual 8800 400gb hard drive etc, ive got the price down to £1569, ive told him under 1500 and i buy, not bad since a lesser spec just a month ago was well over two grand (its still nearly 2 grand on the site pre discount).

So am I the only 1 who got the m1730 yet lol?

Very fast machine!
3Dmark 06

12300ish at stock still with bloatware
14300ish @ 3.4Ghz stock GPUs with bloatware

Should be able to hit 15k wen I get around to clocking the GPUs!

Still a shock really to how cool it runs aswell ^^

4Gb Ram
2 x 160GB in raid 0 with Freefall sensors
Wireless n
DVD +/- RW
Vista Home Premium
Backpack

It is due to arrive before the 27th March

Cheers

How did you get the x9000?Still not on the UK site yet.

You will be well pleased when your m1730 finally arrives:D
I don't know why some people say its ugly! Its 1 of the best looking laptops I've ever seen:)

I called them up and talked to a sales person...

She accepted the order and I have cofirmation :-)

At least one other person has had one delivered already....

The reasons I went back to Dell were:-

1) I like the M1730, it makes me think GAMES MACHINE !!! (very loud voice)
2) My daughter wanted an M1530
3) They gave me a decent deal on both

Have no patience, hoping it won't be delayed...

cheers
